Knightmare's new phantom draft has us taking Serong at 9, Ned Cahill at 42, and Brady Rowles at 57. Thoughts?

I reckon that's how the top 8 will go if no trading of picks.

Our pick could be Stephens, Serong or Kemp

I would like us to do the following:
1. Bid for Henry
2. Pick up Stephens
3. Live trade #9
Note: Kemp acl worries me, but if our fitness staff have assessed the injury, then I'm happy for us to take the injury risks

I wonder if SOS will be willing to deal in next years second round pick (that we effectively kept as a bonus after the failed Martin trade) and #43 to trade into this years (early) second round.

That would probably make for the least athletic top 10s in the last 15 drafts or so, which in of itself isn't a bad thing, but I think Walsh's debut season now has teams looking too much at player's junior production. Walsh made it work because he never stopped running, which is a knack none of these players have innately.

Away from that, what are people's thoughts on Cam Taheny? Plays remarkably like Matty Lappin.

Cam Tehany is really talented. He is a natural goalkicker who snagged 11 in his first 3 games at senior SANFL level early in the year. I watched him closely at the Champs and he was clearly playing sore but did some high level AFL plays. Great kick placement, great speed off the mark, great goal sense, great inate footy sense.

I had him at 7 in my initial post Champs rankings.

Then i read/heard from SA people who would know, that there were queries on his committment/enthusiasm levels and i had flashbacks to similar players like Darcy Hourigan, Troy Menzel, Ben Lennon etc and got cold feet and dropped him clear out of my Top 25.

Since then, there has been a little pushback on those insinuations. Although only a little.

I've snuck him back into my 25 just on talent. He will get a going over in his interviews i would think. He's apparently a ripping nice kid but whether he'll bust a phoofer valve to be the best player he can be might be the query. I'll watch his landing point on draft night with interest.

trade done with pick swaps
Lions trade pick 16,52,55,72
for
Ports future 1st, 29,71 ( future 1st pick 4-8 )

Desperate or wise?
They best know exactly what they'll receive or otherwise that could make for a huge embarrassment.

I wonder if that trade of 71 for 72 clinched the deal? :)

EDIT: Points for Mead. OK, that makes for a little more sense but parting with next years first so easily?

A few seem to be getting onto the Cahill bandwagon, like it!

Just posted this on Freo Board.

Like WHY wouldn’t we?

Blues apparently really like Henry. Gets to draft night. We ring the Freo recruiter. Freo have been unsuccessful moving up from 10 (to say 8) as Melb etc has players there they wanted.

We say “We can bid or trade. Here’s the trade:

Blues trade future 3rd for say 50. We ask who Freo are taking next. If our player it’s no deal. If not our player we on trade 43, 50 and 57 to Freo (points = 833) for 22 (845 points). Swap 9 and 10. Could push to keep 57 I suppose but whatever.

Freo get 3 guns instead of 2. We get pick 22 instead of third rounders. Same player.

Like that’s the worst it could be. But I’d do it. Screw the late picks (we are shit at it anyway Harker!!!).

Thoughts?

My gut feel was - why would Freo divulge who they want to take?

But I suppose there's an element of "If we're not competing for the same player, we can both win out of this".

Carlton upgrade some thirds to Pick 22.
And in return, we don't bid on Henry, so Freo get to use Pick 10 as a live pick.

Still, it's putting a bit of faith in Freo being honest, something I'm not sure I'd bank on with Bell at the helm. Hypothetical names: We ask who they like, they say Robertson, we like that because we want Ash, we do the trade....then they take Ash. Would only want to go down that road if there are 2+ players we're absolutely happy to take with pick 9/10.

I posted it yesterday that Port were getting aggressive with trading up.

They will now come for Picks 7- 9.
Honestly they might be happy with scooping up someone like Gould @ 16.

CARLTON senior coach David Teague has impressed some of the country’s brightest draft prospects.
In most situations, it’s whether or not the impending draftee can impress the club they’re interviewing with.

However, in this instance, it was Teague who impressed top South Australian prospects Dylan Stephens and Cameron Taheny.
“The amount interest David Teague took in the interview – he asked the majority of the questions – it was really, really good,” Stephens told Superfooty’s Lowdown Podcast.

I just think their thought is:

We are making finals next year. Pick will be the other side of the 11 GC gift. In the compromised draft. Therefore that pick is a swap for 16. The rest is points swap to avoid Mead soaking it up.

Walsh and Robertson both good inside extractors one elite the other a very solid contributor, good cumulatore allowing Cripps be a wrecking ball whoever he’s placed.
I’d then hope for Taheny of Pickett we need to replenish X factor, Martin and Betts are excellent but we some youngsters with bells and whistles too , finesse and hunger for the ball.
