The hand outs to the Suns need to stop and the hand outs through the NGAs need to stop its gone beyond a joke.

GC doing GC things does not make our trade a poor one. I can forgive Austin for not taking into account how stupid their list management can be. There is something suss going on between GC and Geelong anyway. 27 + 48 would’ve been better but it’s much of a muchness, we most likely pass on 48 anyway.

Less than 5 days to go. It is going to be very strange going into a draft without a 1st round pick. I've downloaded the Draft Central guide. Lots of reading to do between now & Wednesday night.

Phantom drafts after the first round (more like tope ten) are largely pointless.
Reading others' views (depending on who) on players, can be interesting at times but what do these phantom drafts do?

Given the Blues won't be picking until deep into the second round it's hard to know exactly who will be available at their first selection. Tall midfielder Caleb Poulter and diminutive forward Corey Durdin, both South Australian, are among those to have attracted Carlton's interest and who could be available in the range of the Blues' first two selections come Wednesday night. . Henry Walsh is unlikely to be taken until the latter stages of the draft. Given his brother is already at the club, it would be a nice fit.

Doubting Poulter gets to us as it stands. Durdin has been linked on a number of occasions and I am starting to think he is close to a lock. H.Walsh has almost split this board, but I for one would be happy if we grabbed him with our second pick. Needs are the issue and if we reach a little to ensure getting him so be it. Would love to see draftee photo with 173cm Durdin beside 203cm Walsh.

Coona's "roughies" not getting much attention are * academy Josh Eyre and "local" Liam McMahon from the Knights. Both project as big improvers if they had opportunity during the season.

Depends on how we want to structure our list, if we want any DFAs, or to leave any spots open.

We must fill 2 more Senior spots at a minimum (4 maximum), but could choose to take 2 in the Rookie Draft, or rookies after the draft.

POSITION: Key Defender/Ruck

DRAFT ANALYSIS: “Hunter is a versatile and athletic tall who thrives aerially to impact either as a key defender, or makeshift ruckman.”

Much of Hunter’s best work is done in the air as he propels himself above the opposition with a sizeable vertical leap. It was a key reason why the 194cm talent was able to adjust so seamlessly to rucking this year, undersized as he is. Hunter beat the likes of Kalin Lane (204cm), Shannon Neale (202cm), and Michael Mallard (200cm) head-to-head in terms of hit-outs in 2020, a remarkable effort given the size advantage afforded to each opponent. In fact, he beat every adversary he faced this season as Perth’s primary ruck, winning as many as 44 hit-outs against East Fremantle and only hitting a low of 28.

As a defender, Hunter found himself matched up against likely top two pick Logan McDonald in the Under 18 All-Stars showcase. He held his own against the highly-touted prospect without dominating, shutting him down for the most part inside 50 and matching him for athleticism in the marking space.

I’d suggest there’s a bit of both, I’d like to get back to being a trading player with GC because they are a complete amateur hour

I'd trade next year's first for pick 5 if Phillips is available...bird in the hand. Should be a good AFL quality player and cost a lot less. seems as ready made as any and while he won't have the immediate impact of a Merrett/Oliver, he's costing a quarter of those two

It is a decent question, and I am going to answer definitely ahead of Lane. Neale with exposed forward craft is worthy of serious thought. I don't claim inside info, but can't help the massive standing Darcy Cameron held for years on the back of his underage performance in the west as a ruck/forward and the wait
he had to get in to the system and then get a few games.

Walsh represented Australia, albeit in a mickey mouse game as a 17yo and was played as an underager at NAB carnival. No games this year, down on the farm doing a bit of work while working a "cadetship" or whatever they called it in farm/animal husbandry. Did not have the benefit of much support other than, I am sure his father with big brother away hubbing. Despite still being lean, who knows what levels he would have attained if games were available. Very combative and follows up well at ground level, not unlike Matt Kreuzer. Dominant tap ruck who needed to increase his aerial impact around the ground in general play.

Who is to say he wouldn't have achieved that? He clearly has the work ethic based on tidbits I have seen. With TDK and Pitto, there is no rush on development.
I do not discount the link with his brother and the possible "insurance" he would bring, although firmly believe Sam is Blue for life already. Scoreboard impact is not a recognised trait of Henry as yet either. An underage ruckman would have rotated off of the bench rather than resting forward in his higher level games, just as likely to be lack of opportunity as opposed to lack of capability.

I genuinely like him and will be happy if we draft him. Would not be distraught if we ended up with Neale on our list, but happy to back in Henry on profile and need as well as his name.

Lane is overage and just played on underage kids. No WAFL stuff. Over rated. Better pure ruck than Neale for now, but there is a reason Neale rated higher.
These blokes had a full year. Walsh being judged off underage year when had Vic Country, Aust, School and club appearances to juggle. Think you will find games tally actually low.
Rate the Vic competition Walsh faced higher than Lane, if that is what you are asking. (and I am not a Vic, somewhat anti if a player projects well)

I think it's more likely that they sold their cheaper asset first because it would be harder to move and would set a base price, and then there just wasn't a stronger market for for their higher pick.
