Your first guess I would say because B70 said tough inside mid, whereas Jacob Wehr very much sounds like an outside runner who is more of a finisher than at the coal(Sco-Mo loves that word.......) face getting the ball out........

Pedlar, Poulter - Two S.A. players with exposed form his year, but I don't see it.
I can sort of see what we may like in Pedlar given the hard edge, but neither make for particularly inspiring choices, for mine.

Not sure what another tall mid in Poulter does for us, at all.
I know what I'd like to see and neither of these guys does it for me and especially so, if we have to trade up to acquire them.

I also don’t understand the logic behind more inside mid draftees considering we are playing Stocker and Kemp in the backline, and with Dow to work back into the team.

30. Luke PEDLAR

Clubs: Glenelg/South Australia

Position: Midfielder

Size: 183cm/80kg

Bio: Pedlar is one of the stronger contested bulls in the draft pool. He has power that many other prospects don’t have, willing to fight hard to win the ball for his side. He averaged 5.3 tackles in the SANFL U18s this year and averaged 21.8 disposals. He still has some work to do on his finishing with ball in hand, but Pedlar’s key role is the win the ball from the stoppages and get it moving to goal.

I don't see why we would chase another inside mid after what we've done in the draft the last few years. Dow, Stocker, Kemp, and we can add on top of that Setters, Kennedy, Ed and Cripps.

A KPP is needed much more imo, up forward and back. If we were to get a mid, someone with some pace and the ability to play on the inside and outside would be my preference. Someone who could potentially replace Murphy, and provide some competition for spots with Cunners, Philp, O'Brien, Honey, Ramsay, and even SPS/Willo if they were to play on the wings.

People said that about worpel look how he turned out, you can't teach urgency and the will for contest and the ability to find the footy

We don't really have anyone that has confidently projected to be a long term primary clearance player. Our best quality options we probably prefer in other roles e.g.Walsh, while more suited players have question marks e.g. Kennedy.

If for instance, you knew both Ed and Cripps could be off our list come 2023, I could see an inside mid that we like being the ideal fit.

Two rookies doesn't make sense unless they were mature aged rookies.
Maybe we go back to someone we previously had on the books? i.e. Moore.

We even had our LM talking about 'types' to be earmarked instead of that veil of "We'll just take the best players available."
Things have changed quite a bit this year.

Think of it this way; you've got the way we rebuilt - going for the smaller, more potential, better skilled mids with early picks and hoping they bulk up - and then you've the way St Kilda built - meat and potatoes mids, as many ready to go as possible while Riewoldt was still on the park. They wanted to have a bob both ways, but because they lacked that top tier they were middling production until Billings and Gresham really started to come into their own, and Ratts - who is a very good midfield coach - turned up.

We're trying to have a bob both ways, and if things don't work with Dow, LOB, Stocker, SPS, Philp, Ramsay, Kennedy we have players ready to slot straight in. Will it make us slow? Probably. Will it make us better? Possibly.

Best case scenario; these players put real pressure on those talented 3rd-4th year players, and they get their acts into gear, while some of the recent draftees are ready to go immediately and demand selection themselves.

So we’ve been linked to Pedlar, Poulter, Durdin, Wehr and Rowe.

I like Luke Pedlar, real Worpel type that would add a lot of grunt. Poulter could be a nice prospect too after a couple of years of development. Needs to be developed sensibly though.

Teague I think mentioned that small forwards were a need so the Durdin and Rowe talk makes sense. Wehr would be alright as a late pick given how shallow this draft is.

Really hope we can address the KPD and ruck depth issues as well though.

Austin wasn’t recruiting manager at the Bulldogs too long but he did draft Laitham Vandermeer

in a similar range to our picks and he ended up winning their best first year player award this year so fingers crossed he can find us a gem or two.

Jesus....Archie Perkins on SEN being pretty forthright on not wanting to travel interstate.
Hadn't heard something like that before, either.

Stated that he told recruiters he couldn't commit wholeheartedly if going interstate.


EDIT: The Kinnear Beatson interview on SEN after 9am, was enlightening also. Worth a listen.

There's little I can put forward here with any real conviction, having not watched anything live this year.....just an observation looking at types.

Interesting that just about all the guys we've been linked to though, have been South Australians.
If that was to be true it just seems a little short-sighted and lacking insight and imagination, to me. Let's see what we get and then what they can do.
