Hi Guys

Im picking for Geelong tommorow in big footy's phantom draft.

I watch an awful lot of junior footy in WA so my knowledge on the WA boys is really good.

I came over and watched the championship's final at telstra dome.

So I got too see all the vic country and metro boys.

But my general knowledge of TAC isn't that great.

But back to the Cats, I see your drafting priorities being a KPD.

With the reitrement in next couple of years in Tom Harley. Milburn, Egan, Wojo, Scarlett and David Johnson.

This seem to be a priority for you guys.

You seem good for young fowards in Simpson and Brown.

Also could see you needing another mid with good leg speed maybe more outside than inside to provide some run.

For first round I always tend to choose best available, so someone like a Jordan Gysberts I think would be a good fit.

I know Neil Balme reasonably well and he told me last year how impressed he was with Bundy Christensen so he would be another I would look at.

So please let me know your thoughts would love to hear them.

Especially third and fourth round choices

Cheers RE

I think we'll end up having three choices (with the likely elevation of Laidler and Mumford) and we should go for a KPD and two midfielders. The reasons you outlined for us needing a KPD are pretty much sound (not sure who you're refering to when you say Johnstone, though); Gillies looks a likely type and Taylor, while a bit older, still has more than a few years left in him. McKenna and Laidler both look like good players but I don't think either will ever be able to play properly tall.

Of the other young guys we've got on the list...Selwood is the only one who can be pencilled in as a definite starter in the middle, week in week out. Varcoe is turning into a very, very good player and already looks more comfortable in the midfield but I'm not sure as to whether or not he'll be able to transfer from a wing/flank to the guts fulltime. Similar feelings with Hogan. It's hard to cast judgement on guys who have only been on the list a couple of years (and in some cases haven't debuted) but Djerkurra, Donohue and Taylor Hunt all look likely flanker/small types. Ediriwickrama only played a few VFL practice matches before injuring himself but could potentially be another Brett Kirk - is ferocious in and under even when he hasn't got the ball.

So all that said, think we'd be looking at two mids. I've only seen him play once but I really liked the look of Coyler - that combination of explosive pace and excellent footskills is worth its weight in gold on its own, but it's something our future prospects lack anyway. Sure you could give an insight into him.

Anyway, couple of us have hashed and re-hashed and re-re-hashed it in the Potential Draftee Thread. Check it out, looking forward to your picks.

I think there might be a spot for an emerging CHB from the West called "Dylan Bairstow" who stands at 195cm..:)

Would his old man want him to play for us though, after the way he was treated at the end of his career?

Yeah I think ideally we get a KP defender 195cm capable of playing on ruckmen, medium defender and utility. With rookie promotion I think we'll only take 3 players.

I remember reading something about this not long ago. It seems Mark was less than impressed with the way that Dylan was being treated in regards to WA talent squads and he sounded pretty keen for Dylan to head down Geelong's way...

Well that is what I remember anyway :D

I think we will go with three picks (Mummy and Laidler up).

We need 1X Key defender, 1X Utility, 1X Midfielder who can go forward.

Allen Christensen please :thumbsu:

the phantom draft on the tac show had him going top 10.

Not sure if he will, had a pretty average carnival. Him along with Rohan and Cunnington would = three falcons in the top 10. Could be a great year for Budda and his men.

do you think geelong will try and draft a lead up forward ( ryan okeefe, mathew bate type) and cant see anyone on the list playing that role

THANKYOU!!!!!! I love you Rizzo!!! Christensen is numero uno on my wish list.

TC:eek:

Same :) he is "my" player of this draft like Lewis Johnstone from last year and McEvoy the year before hahaha. I'll be shattered if I miss my player for the third year in a row :o

I'd love to have Christensen at the club but TBH I'd be disappointed if we took him first round. I have to preface this by saying I've only seen him play twice - at the Vic derby and against WA in the carnival. Both times I thought he showed he's a natural footballer. Nice skills, reads the play, can win it inside, etc. But the grim reality is that he's 176cm tall and neither his athletecism or his skills are at a level that makes up for that. I'm not sure he'd be good enough to ever be more than a flanker type in the AFL.

Would rather we took one of the WA boys who would still be floating around - Mitch Duncan or Travis Colyer.

With R1 Talia is the one I want. To me he would be perfect for us, with Harley, Milburn Scarlett, Enright being very mature. I could live with another shortish mid if he is as good as Selwood, Rich etc but otherwise I think we need to have a little bit of size or we risk using our first pick on a fringe player. Taylor was an inspired pick and I wouldn't be surprised if Wells pulls another name from left field , maybe one that comes with a rush after draft testing. Think about Brown last year , came on like gang busters the second half of the season.

I do a bit of work with the Eastern Ranges and we'd be mad not to look at Ben Griffiths, a coordinated athletic giant who can kick 65 metre goals, and Luke McDonald, a gun FF who kicks straighter than I've ever seen, and several others.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what round would they most likely be drafted in?

Is Griffiths a one position player? That being FF. He also has had ongoing injury problems form what I understand. The vision I have seen of him though is impressive. Very good contested mark and kick. What is his speed like?

The thing isn't with Hawkins being in our setup for the next 5 to 10 , we must be carefull with adding the right type to complement our forward setup. Brown sound spot-on , leadup mobile etc.
The other thing is with the group already on our list , if we went for a tall I'd hope he would be a versatile type capable of fitting in down back where we our needs are more immediate. Has either of these guys played down back , would they be capable and happy playing CHB or CHF , or perhaps with the way the games going could they play on the Wing or OnBall? Taylor has this sort of versatility although due to needs we haven't really seen him in the forwardline

Its another reason I like Talia , he will probably be gone by our pick but he would be a good fit.
