Roast Cats have us Mentally?

What dissapointed me the most at times tonight we looked scared of the Cats and that they pushed us very wide and made us just Bomb the Ball and Also make stupid Descions.

Also when they came back at us when we got 2 goals up in the 3rd Qtr we fell away very badly.

Almost reminds me of what problems we had vs the lions earlier last decade

In a way, yes. They didn't play the way they have against other teams, they seemed timid and unwilling to take Geelong on. It was pretty cowardly actually.

Agree and they looked utterly loosed at times

I really believe this. There was such a mental element today. Same with the Saints game. Its almost as if we were afraid to take the game on, afraid to win. Its also why I believe we kicked so many points when the heat was on in both games; they just believed they couldnt do it, and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The one moment tonight was when Davis marked it about 50 out, and just stood there like a dear in the headlights. You'd put your house on him running in and shooting, but because of some perceived pressure he stood rooted to the spot. Things like that happened a few times tonight.

i don't buy into that. cats are just a better team. we're not there yet.
Agree with this.

We had the opportunities but didn't take them. Some players, like Beams, had the necessary poise under pressure but others in the side didn't.

Well Fair Enough and I guess a Young Side does not help this

Well the cats have some of us mentally, thankfully I don't think it's the players.

They are the benchmark and I'm thankful we have another crack at them before the finals.
Before that of course we have to get back in the winners circle again versus Brisbane.

It may be a cop-out but it's also true. If you were to play the same game, hypothetically speaking, 1 million times on a "random match generator", and one team wins 750,000 times and the other 250,000 times, then the former side is better.

It doesn't mean that the latter side is incapable of winning, merely that they need more to go right for them in order to win. We had our chances, we didn't take them, we lost... as you'd expect against a team of Geelong's calibre.

That's just a bullsh*t cop-out. Carlton beat them and we thrashed Carlton. In my view we were not beaten comprehensively by any player but in our structures.

You cannot possibly be playing the 'this team is better than this team and we beat that team' game are you?

Are we capable of beating the cats? Yes.

Are the cats a better team (ie will they beat us more often than they lose?)? In my opinion, yes they are a better side. We're coming (i hope I don't sound like the Carlton marketing department), but we are still just behind them.

Disagree with the OP. Cats outplayed us tonight, but I don't think they have a mental hold on us. Some poor decision making and skill execution, but it wasn't spread across the whole team. Might be a few players carrying a bit baggage from failed finals efforts, but I think only Davis will be carrying that from here on. The others were at least competitive.

I don't think this loss should be built up too much. Instead the club should be taking it as an opportunity to get a good look at what we still need to work on. Last years finals highlighted deficiencies and short comings, and the club worked on that. This game was always going to be a test on just how much we've improved and where we're still short.

Strategically I think we should have taken note of the Carlton game and played a number of constantly moving zippy forwards to spread that defence. Maybe the club thought that without Medders and Dick that it was better to go with the two talls. Dunno about this.

they pushed us wide?

I'm assuming this is a rhetorical question? We pushed ourselves wide; didn't look to want to take Geelong on through the midfield, which is how we've been playing the last few weeks. It's like raising the white flag before the game begins

Agree Geelong are just the Better Side and I think that the Boys know this and they played like they where playing a side that bullies them
