I would just operate under the assumption that the alleged perpetrator won't play AFL again, and if they do, that's just a bonus. Till that point, any speculation is going to be reasonably ugly, and bring out the worst in people.

I think that's a factor in why Cameron shifts up to the wing at times because he's doesn't always get into games when he's isolated up forward, but with him running between the arcs he's able to find those "cheap" possessions and work into the match
I know there's a number who'd prefer he didn't leave the forward 50, but that's not the type of player he's is and it's likely folks wouldn't be happy if come the end of the game, that's how Cameron played but he finished with single digit disposals & no goals as we struggled to get clean ball movement to him
Him sometimes getting involved further to the ground also opens up the forward 50 for others to have an impact - a case of being less concerned with who's kicking the goals, and instead focusing on the fact we're finding a way to kick them

I wasn't able to watch the game unfortunately, so any thoughts around Bowes and where he fits?
Seems to have games where he almost hits 30 disposals, and looks like he's everywhere. And then other games where he struggles to touch it 10 times, and has no impact. Is it positional, role, or inconsistency?

It's all three.
Basically put, he's a jack of all trades, bit of a master of none. That's even true when he plays midfield - he's not strictly outside, he's not strictly inside, he's a classy player but doesn't really have a one-wood.
That said, I think that his flexibility is hugely important. When picking a team, you're not picking 5 inside mids, 4 outside, 2 tall defenders, 4 small defenders, 2 tall forwards, 4 small forwards, and a ruckman. You're picking roughly 14 players in their best positions - and everyone else needs to be able to play multiple spots to fit around that.

The reasons for the abysmal performance have been well covered in this thread so its unnecessary to repeat them. However, another factor I believe (which is don't think has been mentioned) is us coming off a game played in 30+ degrees the previous week where, having blown the opposition away in the first half, we had to lift the intensity again to max in he last qtr to secure what was looking like a 10 goal win at the main break.
Never mind being behind from the first bounce, we were miles behind the Saints to run out onto the ground to start with. Not unusual, granted, but in the context we just looked disinterested. Also, what was going on with the indigenous gift giving ceremony? Did we not get the memo? It was almost embarrassing watching Danger belatedly running over to organise what looked to be a surprised Stengle and Humphries to go do their bit. Again, not switched on. Add to this pre game calamity, Cameron's off after 5 minutes with a calf and we then produce the most inept, unskilled, timid performance since the last half of the last time we played the Saints at Marvel. Clohsey didn't play last week,and Clark had one qtr and yet, for otherwise peripheral players, they were amongst our best.
Heat may or may not have been a factor, who really knows? One thing we do know though is when we bring 'it', not many teams can go with us. Let's hope we turn up the temperature this week in Brisbane.

Good post. Frustrating loss.
In addition, I feel like Ross sent the Saints out there with instructions to push, hold, and niggle as much as possible, knowing that the umpire can't blow the whistle every time. Our guys did not handle it well, and did not respond in kind.

I luv Ted bc he plays so hard every single moment regardless of time space or size. 120% effort at all times.
Have to respect that and he does it in the face of things going against the team - just does not quit. Maz Rooke like.

It makes me realize just how much we already are in transition away from that 2022 flag team (which of course was the oldest team ever to have won it).
I'm not at all upset about how our year goes (only just if Hawks win it
). It will be about getting games into these young guys and building for the next shot at the title.
