hmmm lets see????

hurts doesn't it?

bahaha look at hadley "ohh juddy let me touch you! bring me with you!"

p.s is that hadley? i didnt think he played against the tigers?

Do you expect Kennedy to bag WCE after Carlton traded him? ;)

Kennedy hasn't developed as much as Bower and Jamison.

Your comment about Gibbs says alot when he's a gun and playing good footy.

He finished you off by being in the right spot to receive Judd's handpass.

Thomas didn't kick four on Gibbs.

Are you sure? Just going on stats (which we all know don't tell the full story, but it's a good starting point) Kennedy is up 81% on disposals this year and is kicking about a goal a game more than last year. Doubling his marks per game too...not too mention we are getting flogged regularly.

Bower is up 18% on disposals, and is not better off in any of the other key indicators.

Jameson is down on possessions this year, but is up on marks - so he's probably breaking even.

That stat shows nothing... they are completely different players... Kennedy is playing a CHF role and Jammo and Bower are playing key backmen positions. The fact that Jammo and Bower have cemented their spot, and have done so since round 1 AND have constantly beaten their players demonstrates that at this stage they are developing better than Kennedy.

Additionally the injection of Stevens and Judd into the midfield this year has gone some way to stem the flow of ball being bombarded into our backline and Kennedy is getting better ball delivered to him due to WCE having a better midfield than Carlton had last year.

Your right stats dont show the whole story and it doesnt help when you choose an irrelevant stat to do a comparison.

Yessir. I see you managed to get your name changed to fit your abbreviation/nickname. Some flog took Wally 5 years before I joined.

Being real, I think West Coast would definitely be after a mid to late first round pick if it was all true, which I don't think it will turn out to be. At least I hope they won't be.

I would be pretty pissed if he went to Carlton though. ____ers.

Ben has looked pretty good this year, so i'd be hoping Carlton would have a look at him. IMO, he will come back to Melbourne at the end of the year, and it will be who can do the best deal with West Coast to get the deal over the line.

no but it demonstrates returns for investments in development of our younger kids...

Erm - ok.

With regards to the OP. There is an article here http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/stor...005401,00.html that towards the end (after discussing our bending over yesterday :)) gives a bit on an indication of where McKinley is at regarding contracts. Obviously not set in stone but good news for West Coast supporters.

McKinley, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly being targeted by Victorian clubs, said he would like to remain with the club.

“There are rumours floating around but you try not to pay too much attention to that,” he said.

“I’m contracted to this year at the Eagles and I’m loving being here.”

McKinley is yet to be offered a new contract for 2009 and beyond, but he would only look to return to his home-state of Victoria if a new deal falls through.

“If the Eagles don’t offer me a contract, then I don’t have any other option but I just want to play AFL footy,” he said.

“Obviously, the Eagles gave me a chance and if I can stay here that would be great but if they don’t offer me a contract then I’ll have to look elsewhere.”

You fail to factor in Dennis Armfield, who was taken with Pick 46, which was part of the Judd deal. 23 disposals on debut last night. Basically we are getting immediate benefits from the trade, with Judd leading us from the front & Armfield impressing first up. This is what we needed, not another couple of kids who might develop 5-6 years down the road. We are already putting game time/development into a number of kids at the club.

And the fact that someone like Marc Murphy is benefiting from having Judd (and Stevens) in the team, so he's not tagged each week. The club just need to now work on his kicking - it hasn't been up to his usual standard over the past couple of weeks.

Kennedy hasn't cemeted his spot??? I think if you ask any Eagles fan they would say that he has.

So Bower is technically under less pressure, if the ball is reaching the back line of fewer occasions. I think you will find that Kennedy is not getting anywhere near the delivery he requires...we just got flogged by 100pts..as bad as your team last year were...your logic is reverse

Your 10th on the ladder, with a bunch of under weight kids who all went at #1 in the draft...you haven't had to do much investing, and if you had, you might have seen what Kennedy can do.

yeah three number ones... we wont worry about the later picks in say...
Bower, Grigg, Armfield, Simpson, Jammo (rookie), Betts (PSD), Browne etc

We knew what Kennedy could do that's why we picked him at pick 4... however you need to give a little to get a lot and we gave away kennedy to get Judd, it's a no brainer, get over it!

Additionally it took kennedy what 7 matches to get a game? and has finally cemented his spot where as Jammo and Bower have been first picks since NAB cup round 1...

Like they are falling off the back of a truck really?

Kennedy's percentage gain in almost every area of his game is up massively on his previous 2 seasons with your club. Why is that? If he was playing like this last year there is NO WAY you would have included him in the trade.

oh dear oh dear...

let list the reasons shall we...
1. we had him raw and under sized fresh from the draft where as you are getting a ready made player
2. in his first year he missed the first half including the pre season due to a shoulder reconstruction hence only allowing for one full AFL preseason at the beginning of last year
3. We were too Fev concious last year
4. We lacked the delivery of stevens and judd last year where as this year we have that.
5. The omission of stevens and Judd last year created added burden on players like Murphy and Gibbs who became first tagged mids
6. Collectively WCE has a more experienced midfield than Carlton including 4 premiership players in Fletcher, Stenglien, Embley and Kerr, Carlton had none last year.
7. We needed to give away someone of value, and of WA origin (to make things easier) to get the deal over the line...
etc etc etc

I think i have embarrased you enough...

Simple answer. Fev. If you are a Carlton player running forward with the ball, you look up & you have Fev & Kennedy leading towards you, who do you kick it too? Obviously Fev. Sometimes of course if Fev was double & triple teamed, you looked for the next best forward, Fisher. In contrast, this season if a West Coast Eagles player is running forward with the ball, he looks up & sees Lynch (eek), the 184cm McKinley or Kennedy leading towards him. Who do you kick it too? From an outsiders point of view, I would say kick it to Kennedy as often as possible. Why? Because Kennedy is a better player than both Lynch & McKinley.

Kennedy will look better at the Eagles because the Eagles have to kick it to him more often than what Carlton did, as Fev plays for Carlton & not the Eagles. We know Kennedy will be a good player, in the Earl Spalding mould, but we had a choice between trading Kennedy or Bower & it was determined that we needed Bower in defence more than we needed Kennedy up forward. The fact that Bower has played so well this year, combining with Jamison, Waite & Thornton, has gone a long why to preventing us leaking big scores every week & therefore winning games.

Kennedy is a CHF, the others play deep in the forward line. That largely takes out some of that theory.

Maybe it was also because we don't need Bower yet Kennedy was desirable. Not a knock on Bower either, but he wouldn't be needed at West Coast.

How did I know this thread would turn into a Carlton vs West Coast argument, it started out so peacefully. :(

So did the St John's Primary School Bake Cake riot of '74. And we all know how that finished. :(

That's an impressive list.

I just hope it's an Eagles vs Carlton GF in a couple of years and we teach you a lesson. That would be good footy.

No need to compliment me... you can just run along now... And I doubt there will be an Eagles vs. Carlton GF any time soon... seems as though you can't even win against Collingwood! But if it happens we will gladly teach you a footballing lesson

run along now...

BTW, thanks for chucking in pick 46 to hand us Armfield, he has more heart than Armstrong and most of your 22 who played against us.

More heart than a bloke who survived the Bali bombings only to kick a crucial goal to win his side a premiership?

But no in all seriousness would be a great fit in any forward line. If he plays as a 3rd forward would mean he gets the 3rd best defender. Yesterday he played on Harry O so is the big fish in the eagles forward line. Carlton should go for him.

dont think he is the type of player we need in our forwardline, although looks very likely, and is performing well, i think we dont need another player playing close to goal that will clog Fev's space Fev can beat anyone with space around him, including scarlett. IMO a set-up simular to Brisbane would suit us. We have our Bradshaw (Fev) we now need our Brown. MCkinely just doesnt fit this role, especially with fisher being in our team. Fisher would relish being the #3 rather then #2, and would really come into his own imo.
