I know freo are playing poorly this has nothing to do with them. If Chad wants to go to west coast you take it. It's not a lay buy where he will definitely come in two years. Having him arrive may even help keep Harley who will be a superstar. Two superstar mids locked in by the end of the year and then you can draft for other areas.

Your key forwards are set up long term too.

This is why they want him. The list managers know more than you and that's why they aren't sitting back and thinking everything will work out in two years time.

WC has huge room in their salary cap so any deal is likely front loaded.

The salary cap is only going to keep growing so I would say paying $1.7m for Chad each year post 2030 would be a bargain

For swans fans it makes perfect sense that he doesn’t shut the door on WA clubs before any contract is signed, particular while he is in WA.

For West Coast fans, mentioning Harley unprompted and his uncommitted position on where he wants to play his footy is interpreted as Chad being out the door.

It probably means that Chads answer was the perfect answer to give.

But… if I was a swans fan, I’d had hope he answered it with a little bit more conviction.

It doesn't change my confidence levels that he's staying because I never expected him to come out and publicly say "yep I'm staying (don't even worry about offering an extra $50-100k a year to get it over the line)" before re-signing.
