After the struggles the Saints had last week bringing so many players in at once do you think that may have been the problem we had? I know there is a difference between 5 and 8 players but do you think it had an impact.

This is quoted from the Gfc website after the interview with bomber.

“If we get our team balanced and settled a bit where you are making one or two changes rather than four or five for five weeks in a row then we might be a chance,” he said.

“I think that can happen.

“I think Paul Chapman will play next week and I think James Kelly will play next week and Brad Ottens will play in the VFL tomorrow night and hopefully he has a great game and gets through and we put him in the team. Then Steve Johnson plays [and Tom Harley] and we are up and about.

He admits that we will be a chance if we can settle down with 1 team and then says that we will probably have just as many changes next week.

As i am sure someone will post it no i am not a cats supporter that thinks because we have lost a few games the sky is falling. I am however interested in other peoples opinions and what they believe is the cause of any positives or negatives when it comes to the cats.

Definitely a factor I reckon. It's hard to find form when the side isn't settled. And we've had to be make changes to key players who we really would rather have.

Yeah definitely a factor, but Thompson saying that he will make 4 changes next week is so we are playing our finals team against Fremantle. Otherwise we will have 4 changes going into a final which isn't ideal.

Hopefully Ottens, Kelly, S.Johnson and Harley all come back this week and treat this game as a dress rehearsal to week 1 of the finals. Wouldn't it be nice if we see "No Change" for our team selection going into the Qualifying Final? (Assuming all our players come back this week). This is why Kelly must now come straight back into the Seniors and not play VFL.

Undoubtedly. The single biggest factor.

In 2005, Sydney did not make a single change during the 10 weeks preceding the GF.

In 2007, we didn't make many.

Quite apart from the deficiency of talent, or the lacking fitness of those who miss games, an unsettled and constantly changing line-up detracts from:

1. Players' abilities to conform to a gameplan (know their own roles).
2. Player's abilities to predict the movements of their teammates
3. Certain players' abilities to play their best football if they are being played out of position.

The intangible factor that represents hunger, motivation, discipline, cohesion etc, is so much harder to find and exhibit when the team sheet is like a revolving door.

It is no doubt a factor but - against Carlton and the Bulldogs particularly - we put out sides that should have been good enough to win. It's been a lack of tackling, forward pressure and intensity that's cost us. Most weeks we've only been missing 5 out of our best 22, admittedly that five often changes (some weeks it's Scarlett and Taylor, other weeks Johnson and Ablett etc).

I don't care if you're Simon Hogan, Tom Gillies, Gary Ablett or Jimmy Bartel - every player can run, chase and tackle to the best of their ability.

That's the one, right there...
When you are asked to play on at all costs, it is crucial that the players ahead and behind know we're to run to and what you as the ball carrier are likely to do.
That's where the confidence comes from.

Plus pure work-rate.
Are you willing to push through fatigue to achieve the prize?
