Do you really think a non-football state is going to attract a sell-out crowd if Brisbane don’t make the grand final?

I live in Brisbane mate, & can guarantee a grand final here would easily sell out. Most finals would too IMO.

As for the small attendees - there's very limited allocation of tickets being made available to some games (and available only to members). E.g. west coast v adelaide only had 2k available, couldn't find a ticket no matter how hard I tried.

And you are comparing crowds of 4,000 with 20,000 and 27,000 saying it is acceptable?

(Don’t be surprised if a lot of controversial free kicks go Brisbane’s way in the finals series if it is held in QLD).

How is holding the grand final at the Gabba, which has rundown facilities and can barely hold 40,000 people in the best interests of the game?

By playing the grand final in Perth - at one of the world’s best stadiums - not only will you attract a crowd of 60,000 people but you will increase TV viewing and advertising dollars because the telecast into the eastern states will go into the evening and be shown later into Europe.

No not comparing those crowd sizes, but in time hopefully QLD allow more crowds in. The AFL have been extremely lucky of late to have a season at all. Vic, NSW are no go zones and whether this is a thing or not but some talk over here that the AFL are some respects indebted to QLD for allowing the season to continue. So QLD finals is discussed as perhaps payback for enabling the AFL season. Plus, junior AFL numbers in QLD are very healthy. Will take a while before they all become cash carrying adults but I can see the reason why the AFL are keen to take advantage of a situation that has been presented to them. Having said that, an AFL GF or Prelims at Optus would be an amazing event.

Funnily enough the accusations are that there was plenty of money flowing to Hawks recruits 'off the books'

Also, to be fair to Don Scott he did say that every club was doing it. If it was widespread then I would not at all be surprised if the Eagles were onboard with it - as our financial issues have always been more around hitting the max of the salary cap rather than tin rattling to work out how to pay our players!

We did get done for salary cap issues in the 90's and think we even had a pick/pciks taken of us.

1996 for 10k fine and 1998 with a 100k fine and loss of third round selection.

That's one square head. All the best Nic! Pressure pressure pressure and 1 disposal a quarter is all we need at a minimum.

Yep, keep hearing on footy radio shows etc that it's almost inevitable to be held in Qld if not at MCG-which they will hold out for until the 11th hour. Also hearing talk that given the recent breakouts in other states and NZ, it's only a matter of time before another breakout in W.A, some even saying it could be a serious one??
Not sure why they would say that, maybe attributing it to us having footy crowds back at the stadium?
Seems very fatalistic to say that about W.A, but the NZ is a concern, out of nowhere, with no clusters or community spread, then Bam! 4 cases from one family in one house, but where/how did they contract it?
Anyway can't see GF happening in Perth realistically...and maybe that's a good thing?
Unless there's a breakout in Qld and wouldn't wish that on anyone...but given the nature of 2020,
anything can happen or be changed at the last moment?

Reid playing!? Great to watch another newbie have a go, see what he's got?

For those who have seen him, how would you describe Reid's style of play?

We've been lucky so far that people who have chosen to break home quarantine or otherwise done the wrong thing haven't been contagious, and given how complacent everyone's gotten about social distancing if it does get out here again it'll go wrong very fast. Here's hoping our luck holds a while longer :)

That has a lot to recommend it. Is he big enough to pull it off against AFL sized defenders
I'm sceptical to be honest. I played with adam hunter around the same time as playing against Nic and even after years out of the game, hunts would run circle around Nic. Though Nic's a completely different person 5 years later...

I think there's lots of positives to Reid's game. Hits the contest hard, gets into dangerous spots, hits the scoreboard. One of those players who will look 'lucky' when scoring goals, but rather it is because of his positioning and nous.

My one issue is that we are a skill based team and he's not shown an AFL standard of skill yet. His finishing in particular needs work. Maybe this has developed in his time with AFL coaches.

When was the last time you played against him tho? I’m sceptical too as I don’t think his form last year deserved an AFL contract but it was still a bloody good season for a bloke that went from ammos to WAFL.

So...

In: Reid and McGovern
Out: Cameron? Does Ryan need a spell? Rotham out for Gov?

Intrigued to see Reid have a go. A little bit older so will be throwing himself right in there you’d think.

Our oldest debutant for a while?

Unless I’m forgetting someone obviously.

Good Vision! Also good to see Glassy, forgot he was still with us...and mentioned Venables, suggesting he might be back in 2021..I thought he was probably on the slow road out unfortunately, but that is a glimmer of hope?
