OUT:

Clarke (inj)
Siddle (rest)
Henriques

IN:
Khawaja
Johnson
Watson

Not sure on the Wade/Haddin situation

OUT
Henriques
Starc
Clarke (?)

IN
Watson
Pattinson
Khawaja (?)

Don't want Watson but it's obvious he'll play. This tour's proved a steep learning curve for Starc, and as long as the selectors have made the Doherty bed they might as well lie in it.

Don't really care any more we may as well use this as a learning experience.

1. Cowan
2. Warner
3. Hughes
4. Watson - has to be included as he's apparently captain
5. Smith
6. Wade - I think Haddin would perform better but meh wade is our number 1
7. Henriques/Maxwell - dependinng on the pitch
8. Pattinson
9. Starc - If Siddle bats ahead of starc or patto again i will loose my nut
10. Siddle
11. Lyon

We suck.

Our batsmen have pretty much based their game on stick cricket. Start well against pace as long as there's not too much untoward movement, but as soon as the spinners come on our run rate plummets and we start losing wickets to ridiculous shots left, right and centre.
Could never quite figure out the spinners myself tbh.

We need to retain a 5th bowling option. If Henriques is out then surely Maxwell come in.

Leave Henriques. He batted so well on debut he needs another shot. Only change is Clarke for Watson, Doherty for Johnson/Maxwell depending on the pitch. Oh, and Haddin for Wade pending fitness.

I'd also be interested in opening with Hughes abs moving Cowan down to 3. I feel that Hughes is going to rely more on getting his eye in against pace before he's able to handle the spinners, psychologically speaking.

Oh, totally forgot about Pattinson. Huh. I dunno, drop Starc then maybe? Or Just Doherty out for Pattinson. Either/or.

Patto will come back so presumably that will be for one of the spinners. Can't see them playing Lyon and X again....

So that's 3 quicks one spinner.....meaning Maxwell pretty much has to come in for Henriques.

Watson straight swap for Clarke if unfit. If Clarke's fit, I would drop Warner for one Test, just to send him a little message about the difference between confidence and recklessness. Give Watto a chance to put his money where his mouth is as the opener.

Wade for Haddin depending on injury. Smith and Hughes have probably done enough to prevent Haddin being played as a specialist batsman.

Not the worst idea.

Should (but won't) treat this as a practice match. Give Clarke a rest and look to the future. To me, that doesn't include Watson but I'm sure he'll get a run. I'd even try some radical ideas like moving Warner down the order and telling him to belt everything, because, hey, apparently he's going to do that anyway.

It really doesn't matter if we lose the next test, even if we lose it within 3 days (more rest for the Ashes!). With that in mind:

Cowan
Hughes
Khawaja
Smith
Warner
Henriques
Wade
Maxwell
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon

Who's the captain? Do we really think it matters at this stage? Give Wade a go.

Guy clearly isn't up to it. Has he made over 10 since that first match?

Leave Haddin as a specialist batsman, at least looks comfortable on against the spin.

See the rotation policy coming in with the series lost. Starc will probably be given on, why risk Clarke if he isn't injured and may as well give SIddle a rest too.

Let's give them credit for getting out of bed in the morning and breathing as well.

We lost, again, in four days.

Wish i could like this comment more. Cannot stand the bullshit spin and this attitude where we raise optimism to a cult like status.

Part of me wishes that we get belted in the next Test and in the Ashes so that our problems are exposed for all to see, even the fanbois

warner
cowan
hughes
khawaja
smith
haddin (c)
wade (+)
starc
siddle
pattinson
lyon

in; khawaja, wade, pattinson
out; clarke (inj), henriques (hopeless since debut), doherty (hopeless since birth)

clarke shouldn't play. there really isn't any point. it would be nice to salvage some pride but thinking bigger picture is required. it will also give the guys a glimpse of what its like without clarke in there.

watson shouldn't play. between his massive sook, average of 25 since being vc there is no reason to bring him straight back in

if one of the quicks is struggling giving johnson a run probably wouldn't hurt

bailey should be in india in khawaja's spot, but isn't. bailey should be playing in england.

smith is lucky but took his chance. not holding my breath for repeat performances but we'll see. him and warner to share fifth bowling duties. not great but meh. the only other option is maxwell at 7 for khawaja but that leaves the batting even more vulnerable than it already looks.

haddin captain. is the most experienced of that lot and looked reasonable in the first test. often plays as a batsmen alongside peter nevill so used to the situation

need to keep developing wade as a keeper.

and seriously, surely we've had enough of 7 @ 78?

that's what the team should be. but they'll bring watson in, he'll bat 4 in place of khawaja and will captain.

If they can't see our problems now, they never will.

If Clarke doesn't play Haddin has to stay in the side either as captain or not because of his experience alone. Whether he plays as keeper or not is immaterial, it's such a young side and they will need some older heads on the field without Clarke there.

Yeah, people were doing this during the last Ashes over 2 years ago. How did that work out?
