the 4 quarters v adelaide, followed by the first 2 against melbourne were spiritless and passionless....unacceptable if your wearing black and red imo, yet we had far too many who were guilty....

....and still some people want to drop the bloke who showed the most passion yesterday in lonergan??? oh boy.

finals obviously gone so we have to at very least get the most out of this year as we can...and with this in mind, personally i see great advantages in picking the forward line we'd like to see work, and giving them 7 games together to see if they can gel together.

remember gumby williams and neagle have still only actually played one game together so far, and yet our coaching staff keep saying they're all in our long term forward line plans....
therefore pick neagle, williams and gumby, tell them they are playing the next 7 weeks together and they must find a way to work cohesively.

even if it doesn't happen straight away, i think we have little to lose by persevering for the rest of this year.
at very least we'll have given it just under a third of a season and we'll have a much better idea of where it's going wrong.

ins; fletcher, gumby, williams, atkinson, melksham
outs; dyson, jetta, dempsey, colyer, howlett

mcveigh hurley fletcher
atkinson hooker hocking
melksham watson zaharakis
monfries gumby reimers
williams neagle davey
ryder, winderlich, welsh
nlm, lonergan, bellchambers, stanton

prismal, colyer, howlett all pretty close too....
....nlm, reimers and stanton pretty lucky no stay in, and if they put in a similar performance and pris, colyer or howlett tear it up at bendigo, they should be close to being replaced.

hille to replace belly as soon as he's ready.

to me this is pretty much how the side should look for the next 7 weeks and although i'd make 5 changes this week, i'd like to think it could be kept to one or 2 a week tops for the rest of the year....of course if the spineliess garbage we saw v crows and d's is dished up again, it cannot be tolerated and perhaps more heads will have to roll.

Welsh has been our best player for the last 3 weeks.

has beaten his opponent

- Bate

IMHO he didn't beat Bate, more broke even, limited Bates output but some of Welsh's rebounding was quite poor.

Don't really understand why Welsh needs to be defended so vigorously on the this board, while he does a job I think its quite obvious he is limited and not going to take us forward.

I feel embarrassed for all of you. Why bother to comment if you didn't go to or watch the game? :o

I know it doesn't seem like we agree on much lately, but the suggestion of omitting Welsh is astounding. He has done his job superbly brilliantly for the last 3 weeks. Hodge, Vince and before this week, and although it was changed up a bit this week, he still got the job done. He definitely has a place in this team. If we want to win that is.

If we want to win that is.

This is exactly the point, Knights is stuck somewhere between doing whats best for the future and trying to win games, he needs to shit or get off the pot, because sitting in limbo is doing no one any favors.

At this stage winning should be secondary to developing the side.

Jonesy

There are two separate issues at play

Current form

1) Welsh's recent performances have been exemplary in his designated role.
2) Other players such as Hocking and Howlett have played this role with limited success

Future

Will Welsh be in our next premiership team - he is no certainty but if we develop a good midfield he will probably be the tagger. All the leading teams bar Collingwood employ a defensive tagger.

you can argue dropping welsh on the basis of development but not on the basis of form.

You want to drop Colyer? My god...

I would be surprised if Colyer is dropped - At the moment he offers more to the team than Melksham, although the latter will be a better player.

In: Gumbleton, Fletcher, Prismall, Melksham
Out: Reimers, Dyson, ???, ???

Out: Dyson, Jetta (susp)

In: Fletcher, Prismall.

Would love to see Hurley and Neagle play up forward together.
Prismall was shite for Bendigo and doesn't deserve a recall.

Stanton is out of form but should not be dropped because part of this form line relates to the lack of protection he is getting from his team mates. If we dropped him someone else such as Winderlich would get a tag whom equally cannot handle it. His work ethic is top notch.

Those calling for Colyer to lose his spot are off the mark. I liked his game on the weekend.

Can't comment on the ins until I see an injury update.

OUTS: Jetta, Dyson... few more most likely.

This. :thumbsu:

I would like Melksham to return also. We won't make finals and we should be playing Melksham, Colyer and Zaka in the midfield for the rest of the year.

Reimers should go forward and take Dyson's spot. I don't know why Dyson was played up forward on Sunday .

As Ben said above Pris is too good to be at Bendigo and sould be in the team.

EDIT: I forgot about Atkinson, he should be in the side as well.

I haven't read one explanation of why he was out in the first place, which is odd, apart from a one-liner in The Age that suggested it was an ankle

Agree. Anyone know if it was back related (hope not).

I also fail to see why he should automatically come in. Fletcher is in as our tall so we really do not need him and he has not done enough to be automatic best 22.

Hey guys, sorry for the intrusion but I would just like to make a comment and ask a question on the number of changes Knights makes to his team every week. Robert Walls said something on OWAAT that I completely agreed with (rare I know). He said how can the Bombers expect to win when the consistently chop and change their team so much? The group needs some time to gel and work together if they want on field success. I was just wondering if many of you agree with these thoughts?

You can view it in 2 ways, 1, the team isn't working so it needs to be changed or 2, the team needs to stay together to find some consistency. Our team is definitely struggling with consistency but that doesn't mean I want him to sit back and leave the team as it is each week when they play horribly.
Hopefully we can get a good balance between that and just drop the standout crap players and leave the rest of the team alone to get used to each other.

Good points. Purely from an outsider's view, Knights seems to swap many like-for-like players weekly and consequently it adds very little to the team but at the same time doesn't allow for the players to 'gel' together. Perhaps this issue was more more relevent when the Dons were a good chance to make finals, but with that all but gone it makes more sense to now give many players are run as it's mostly about looking forward to season 2011.
