Yeahhhh we're going to be too short this weekend. Ken's obviously going for run and speed which is all well and good, except:

- GWS can do that better than us;
- At some point White's hamstrings will probably explode and hit an innocent bystander; and
- We're going to have to hope that the ball never gets anywhere near GWS' forward line as we won't have the height to outmark them.

Poor selections Ken.

What worries me is there marking ability, not one of our strengths. If i had my way Hammer would play hff but he has said he doesn't have the tank to play midfield.
lobb's the only one that takes contested marks, Cameron get's his marks by leading up and work rate and Patton's a bit of a spud, very rarely does he take a contest mark which isnt good for a guy his size

I'm just struggling to understand the logic here how can we seriously expect blokes to defend players 3 inches taller and 15 kg heavier?

Ok so you might make an argument Framption or Austin isnt playing well enough but WTF has White done to deserve a recall or Amon for holding his spot to start with ?

As baffling a team selection as I can remember and that includes the Choco magic beans/crazy scientist era thank god Brett Ebert retired otherwise Kern would have cloned him and played him and his clones as FB, CHB, CHF and FF....

the game will be won in the midfield anyway, outwork them there and win the clearences and contested possesion and i bet you we win the match.

Their height still worries me. Well Ken's going to be in the gun or he is going to be labelled a genius, time will tell.

True but i thought we would beat the franchise last week because of our contested ball and our midfield, i was wrong and i hope i am this week.

its not that hard, its all about putting pressure on the kick into the forward and having a third man up, Josh Gibson did it for years, vary rarely does a big forward outmark in a 2 on 1 situation these days, if its a pressure kick into the forward line the defence should eat it up 9 times out of 10

there are inside 50's and inside 50's, many teams are happy to have the opposition bomb it long from the 90m range with a shallow inside 50, its the inside 50's that get kicked with time and space that hurt you
Imo we are lacking genuine height in our back half, which will in turn help their tall forwards.

So it's
  • Patton, Lobb and Cameron versus Clurey, Jonas and ???
  • Mumford (an actual ruckman) versus Trengove (not an actual ruckman)
  • Davis, Tomlinson, Corr and Haynes versus Dixon (who'll also need to play ruck), Westhoff (who'll also need to play ruck) and ???
We've left in Sam Gray (out-of-form midget), Amon (out of firm stick insect) and brought in Matt White (hasn't played even a reasonable game at any level since 2015) while Austin, Eddy and Frampton sit in the SANFL.

This is my official first melt of the year. We lose one game and the coaches lose their shit so hard they make our 2015-2016 lineups look like land of the giants. We're going to have to play the best running game in the history of running games to so much as get close.

I'm expecting a big game from ???, we'll need him to give us some much needed height in defence.

Seriously though, this is a pretty ****ed up situation but I aint even mad.

I posted earlier about it being a perfect storm for Lobbe to come in and it looks like the club was heading in this direction. This means that Austin is still too underdone and that the perfect storm just got a shit load more perfect. We'll probably see ??? filled by either Broadbent (189 cm) or Houston (187 cm). It's shit but we're fresh out of KPDs.

I'm not overly surprised Eddy has been omitted. I'm thinking it's probably a fitness or workrate issue. Either way it's probably the right call. With Howard needing a month in the SANFL before coming under AFL consideration, we're just as ****ed up forward as we are in the ruck and in defence.

And people said i was being overly dramatic last week when I said without Hombsch we could easily go 2-2 with Carlton being our game to save face. Looking incredibly likely now.
People jumped on you for floating the possibility we lose against Adelaide and GWS, are you sure?

In reality, even if we do bring in a tall like Austin - we still don't don't have anywhere near enough height to blanket all of their forwards... so by the looks of it, Kenny et al have conceded that and decided to go small and fast this week.

No doubt the coach's have rolled the dice, but they had to try something... massive amount of pressure on the shoulders of our grunt guys this week.

To win we must...
- Halve the ruck duel at worst
- Win the inside ball
- Be as clean as possible with our I50 entries
- Capitalise on every shot on goal
- Minimise the unforced turnovers
- Pressure every I50 entry they have to make it as messy for them as we can
- Drop off and double even triple team every ball kicked into Cameron and their forward

If we can pull off most of these, well you just never know.

Now I know that this may be a bit controversial. What if GWS is going in a bit too tall. If we review the footage from the Cow's game, they got hurt badly on the rebound and got blown away literally with run.

And just saw Boxx's post. More of what he is saying

Austin, Clurey, Jonas would have been enough for Lobb, Cameron and Patton.

That allows us to have Wethoff providing additional height up Foward.

If we need Westhoff to provide intercept marking in defence to combat their falls that leave Dixon in on on threes every time we go inside 50.

Aas you said, wee need super clean inside 50s with young leading to our mids perfectly and Gray, Wingard and Impey reading havoc when the ball hits the ground I50.
