Changes for Prelim

It sounds like Chappy & SJ should be right. On that basis for me the changes are:

Out: Prismal (inj.), Varcoe
In: Kelly, Wojcinski

Monica was fit this week but wasn't selected. Varcoe played well, why would they change it now?

If Kelly fit, he will come in for Prismall. If not, it will be Wojcinski.

What is this talk about Stokes? The guy was close to the All-Australian squad for god's sakes, I bet he wouldn't have been far off. There is no player in the current team - none - that has not at some point this season, put two or three ordinary games together in a row (except perhaps Joel Corey but he is in blistering form and rarely gets tagged). Stokes just happens to be in a patch now. I suspect he will come good in the prelmin. Tob honest, his September form wasn't great last year though - asides from the 3 goal first quarter against Collingwood in the prelim, he was often missing. But as another astute poster pointed out a few posts ago, not everyone in the team can be a 'star'. To suggest he isnt doing the running and the tackling is pretty harsh, unless you watch him every minute of the game it unfair to make such a claim.
If you talking about players underperforming, I think Ablett has been a bit ordinary the last few weeks. Sure he still racking up 30+ possessions, but he has failed to grasp a game by the neck and really dominate like he did mid-season. Though I suspect he might be only one or two games away.

The team is travelling nicely - no need for any changes at this stage, unless its injuries/suspensions.

I put Stokes in this category of players - Johnson and Mooney - because they make unnecessary or cute errors more than anyone else. The difference is the other two, especially Johnson are so good you have to accept it. Stokes is replaceable IMO. AA? Get real.

Highly disagree with this. Stokes is a much better player than Varcoe.

Agree. but at the moment Stokes is turning it over alot. Whilst Varcoe's input is minimal it is usually correct, and not lazy

Prismal - Kelly. Heard Kelly was just about ready to go today. Not good he's missed so much footy but he's an absolute staple in our best 22 and was great in the finals last year.

Varcoe - Gamble or Wojak. Still not doing enough. Not laying enough tackles to justify his position/role. I think Gamble is way more effective but Wojak is another option and would probably be next in.

If Chapman does not come up then Gamble is obvious replacement. SJ just had a cork and Milburn a thumb and with a week off both will be fine.

Now I hate doing this and am not calling for his head but Harley must be better. Hate to say it but he's well out of sorts right now. Not marking it, not killing the ball and clumsy at ground level. Confident he can improve though. I would prefer if he just went the fist rather than trying to mark all the time while his timing and confidence is so far off. I know we like to try and mark and rebound quick but it won't hurt. Like Milburn did numerous times today just kill it.

I'd say a debate regarding Stokes' spot in the side could be one.

I agree, caught the replay on Fox today and thought Varcoe was pretty damn good.

I'm concerned as to how much Kelly would be able to offer us with regards to being underdone, other than that id be happy for him to replace Priss

Great? He had 8 disposals. I could cop serviceable as he had 7 tackles (although I'd argue only one or two had great effect on the play). But great?

I only ignored Kelly because there seems to be a bit of talk that his injury is a bit more serious than the club is letting on. Billy Brownless was very odd when asked if it was infact a knee injury when asked this morning.

Ah fair enough. I was going on Doctor Larkins on MMM who said he was probably only a day or two away from playing yesterday and would be fine in a couple of weeks.

Well i suppose we've got about 10 days before any of us really know, but if Kelly is fit then i suppose it would also be Kelly in for Varcoe on top of the other change i mentioned earlier

So Gamble dropped for the Grand Final, or Varcoe?

Don't know yet - they both bring something different to the team.

I love the forward pressure that Varcoe provides, and reckon that would be invaluable against a young, suspect, nervous Hawthorn defence.

With Gamble he obviously provides another marking option up forward which vould be useful if Croad gets on top of Mooney and Lonergan is struggling.
