Prediction Changes for Rd 3 vs Brisbane

Out: Gov, Nelson, Kennedy, Ah Chee
In: Rotham, Cole, Waterman, Williams

Darling Plays deep, Allen and Waterman play as CHF at same time, running up one wing/ corridor and back each to give an outlet. Williams chops out Nicnat, Barrass back when required, Cole because he has much better touch than Nelson and has more game sense. Tough choice between Schoey and Rotham, could switch it either way. May be better with Barrass playing at CHB and Schoey deep. 50/50

Oh and take full advantage of having a ****ing interchange cap of 90.

Kennedy needs to wake the **** up.

Every player should be forced to watch that 2018 tackles highlights video twice a day every day this week. Thats the intensity required to win and win finals.

Here's an article that I just posted in another thread, but thought I should post it here too.

Another night game in QLD, this time at the Gabba. Selection is obviously crucial, especially with Gov missing.

Braden Quartermaine: Practice perfect patience required for West Coast coach Adam Simpson as same tall dilemma looms

As West Coast head back to Queensland for the first time since last season’s season-opening debacle against Brisbane, everything has changed and nothing has changed.
Footy might have done a Liam Ryan double backflip thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Adam Simpson is left with the same problem he had last March.
So many promising young talls and not enough spots in the team for them.

In round one last year at a super slippery Gabba, the reigning premiers tried to squeeze the tall timber in.
The Eagles went in with eight talls, if you count 195cm utility Jarrod Brander, and came unstuck as they kicked just two goals after quarter-time in a shock 44-point loss.

West Coast have long backed in their talls.
Under John Worsfold, the Eagles sometimes fielded the tallest team in the league.
Under Adam Simpson, they have remained wedded to their two-ruckman strategy despite most clubs moving towards one specialist and a pinch-hitter.
It helped carry them to a flag in 2018 when they nullified Brodie Grundy (twice) and Max Gawn in a memorable September despite not having Nic Naitanui. But a month-long stint in Queensland, including three potentially dewy night games, has raised the stakes.
Tom Hickey, picked in round one against Gawn’s Melbourne despite the shorter quarters, looks a likely casualty for Saturday night’s clash with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.
The Eagles are desperate to play Brander and Oscar Allen, even if it’s out of position, and Bailey Williams is exciting and now looks ready to play as a forward/ruck.

The dilemma is amplified this season by the banning of AFL-listed players featuring in the WAFL.
If you don’t find a spot for your brightest emerging talents, where do they develop?
Yet they can’t all fit.
Brander, 21, was selected for that Gabba disaster last year and then just once more for the rest of the season.
With Chris Masten moved on, the club has creatively found what could be a regular spot for Brander on the wing this season despite his long-term appeal surely remaining as the key-position player he was drafted as.
Allen, also 21, is in a similar boat. He’s a natural footballer, not a natural ruckman, yet playing him in the forward/ruck role last year was a way to keep him in the side.
The West Perth product shapes as a suitable replacement at either and of the ground for any of Josh Kennedy, Jack Darling, Jeremy McGovern or Tom Barrass should they go down.

In the meantime, Allen doesn’t quite fit anywhere and last September when it was crunch time he was left out altogether.
Williams, 20, looks the leading contender if the Eagles want a natural forward/ruck to support Naitanui, but where does that leave Allen?
Kennedy’s retirement is the domino that would allow the next generation talls to be used in their natural positions.
Yet Kennedy, 33 in August, doesn’t look to be going anywhere just yet.
He booted six goals in the pre-season clash with Essendon in February and kicked another bag in an intraclub hit-out on Friday night.
Fewer games, shorter quarters and less flights might prove to be a good recipe for the ageing champion in 2020.
The glut of bigs is a legacy of the 2017 national draft, when the Eagles ‘accidentally’ walked away with Brander and Allen with picks 13 and 21.
There was no plan to take talls; the club simply couldn’t believe the pair were still on the table as rival clubs obsessed over midfielders and viewed them as deals too good to pass up.
It shapes as a savvy long-term move.
But with the Eagles believing they are in the go-zone to win a second flag in three seasons, some of the youngsters might have to be patient.

i dont think simmo would panic ,govs out so Schoey will take his place, the whole team were flat ,other than yeo, shuey and a few others, however it does again hilight our lack of pace in the middle ,would be good to have someone to put in there to add some pace ,you could put sheed half forward, he can kick goals
brander made a lot of mistakes but hes just learning, the forwards had a hard night when the ball wasnt getting down there much and we missed some easy shots. The whole team looked pretty rusty ,full credit to Gold Coast that played great.

I don't think Simmo would be panicking too much either. And to be honest, Brisbane's tall forwards aren't their most dangerous assets up forward.

Biggest job will be who takes Cameron (Shep?) who is a small forward who likes to play as the deepest forward like a KPF. Whoever takes Cameron this week needs to watch the two Richmond games from R23 + QF. Grimes did an absolute number on him by bodying him out of the contest. Neutralised him completely in both games.

Schofield should get first dibs on Cameron imo.

Enter QC David Grace.

Who you may know from previous Tribunal appearances such as "Gaff gets 8 weeks" and "NicNat getting suspended for not calculating weight differential before applying a tackle".

Good news that we're rich and are happy to piss away 10K.

See you in round 4 Gov!

Grace's problem is he thinks he's dealing with rational law people like he does on a daily basis.
To deal with idiots we need to send an idiot so he can speak their language, I think we should hire Tom Browne to represent us at the tribunal.

Haven’t seen the words “Vardy” and “ideal” in the same sentence for a while.

He didn’t kick a goal last year and looked pretty bad in the Marsh series. Williams has been in the extended squad ahead of him in both rounds This season. Unless he played a blunder against the Suns reserves on Saturday I don’t think he’s in the mix.
I hear you but don’t think we have the luxury whilst in the hub to be blooding players.

To be fair that was the worst performance by an eagles team in recent memory, just about everyone bar Shuey was terrible.
Not sure who to bring in.

Would love Jarrod Cameron or Rioli

Actually I agree, Bailey Williams to ruck and Oscar to go forward with Darling and Waterman. I would bring in Rotham and Watson for Ah Chee and Nelson

Nelson has to go

Nice to see a few calling for Waterman. Biggest issue was blokes willing to.have a go and Waterman always brings that..Replaces AhChee.
Is Schoey over there? If so comes in for Gov. If not Rotham.
Maybe Cole into the backs and Duggan to the wing at the expence of Brander but I think they back him in for a block of games.
Petch lucky to stay in as Cameron not fit.

Allen permanent forward. Williams into the ruck. Ah Chee gone.

Petruccelle getting by on a lack of replacements behind him. Cameron in, or Treacy developing can't come soon enough. Would gladly roll the dice with a debutant young mid awkwardly played on the HFF, because it genuinely couldn't offer us less as a forward option than Petch does. I'm not giving up on him entirely, but he is no natural forward and the concept of getting a speedster who is good at ground level up front is only good if the speedster runs with pace more than once a game and can gather the ball at ground level.

If Gov goes, get Rotham in.

Keep plugging away with Brander, he needs games to develop, but I'm very over seeing his little treading water happy feet every time an opponent comes within tackling distance of him. It's alright mate, you're not going to get hurt by getting stuck in.

Out: Gov, Brander, Ah Chee/Petch

In: Williams, XON, Jones

Three debutants/club debutant, generates a bit of excitement, gives us a fresh look, but gives the young lads a bit more motivation as well. Allen goes back.
Two extra ground level players better suited to the conditions. These three give us pace and a bit of aggression. It also allows the Mids to remain more attacking when Nic’s out of the ruck.

B: Duggan Barrass Sheppard
HB: Hurn Allen Jetta
C: Gaff Yeo Sheed
HF: Jones Darling Cripps
F: Ryan Kennedy Williams
R: Naitanui Kelly Shuey

INT: Redden O’Neill Nelson Ah Chee/Petruccelle

Not opposed to Rotham/Schoey coming in either though. And I’d prefer Camo over Jones but doubt Camo would be fit enough atm.

Its just more of the same with Ah Chee and Brander.

2 guys with the physical tools that should be doing much better then they are.

They are hardly dominant in the WAFL, but still get senior games. Theory is, that despite the lack of WAFL dominance (and they should be dominating) they will be better for senior exposure. Cue a few games of nothingness at the top level, and a return to the WAFL where we get the occasional, fleeting, good game.

Rinse and repeat

With Naitanui still on managed minutes, I think we need a second recognised ruckman. Vardy would be ideal with his mobility and allows Allen to move forward (although may be used down back) this week.
How many years are we going to hear Naitanui managed??

Richmond also had a spare back usually floating in front of cameron . This allowed grimes to hang behind cameron to not let him over the back and to run forward and take marks .

It's obvious we are too tall . There in no point in having a 6foot5 marking wingman in greasy conditions .

The solution is to bring in Cole who is a good wet weather and contested player and play him as the defensive wingman .

Ahchee is also a concern . Just doesn't have it between the ears IMO . How many years does it take to learn not to fly for big marks in slippery conditions. Every time his opponent stayed down , scooped up the loose ball and ran away with it unhindered .

Unfortunately the cupboard is a bit bare atm of small/medium forward options with cameron not fit and rioli/venables unavailable .

Treacy?
