Prediction Changes for Rd 3 vs Brisbane

We looked too tall and slow for sure, but how much of that was workrate based?

Which smaller players are close to selection? Not many I can think of.

How much was work rate?

That's the exact thing I expect our coaches would be saying behind closed doors. The selections were fine its the players work rates.

It's a chicken and the egg argument really. Talls generally don't chase and tackle as effectively as smaller more mobile players. They also struggle more in the wet with poor ball movement and control.

AS I mentioned. The Eagles keep making this same mistake over and over again. It's one of the definitions of insanity. Do the same thing and expect a different result.

JD can take the best forward, he has had more than enough experience in being the number 1 forward at times when JK hasn't played.

Oscar will at the very least provide as much value as JK, if not more.

Williams is better in the ruck than Oscar by a fair margin, and would take 3rd best defender when up forward.

You put those together, and I reckon we are better of with OA/BW than JK/OA.

On paper I agree it looks likely. I'm just advocating for people not forgetting that some of Oscars success is because JK is also in the forward line and the oppo defenders can't cover everyone.

If it all goes to shit and Oscar was thrown to the wolves I'd hate to hear the vitriol, that's all I'm saying. He could do the opposite and announce himself ala Gov.

Cameron or bust as far as smalls go.

He's not even fully fit but at least he can tackle and handle a wet footy (see 2019 Derby)

Pretty damning that Petch, Cripps and Ah Chee couldn't get the job done and have more of an impact. It's not like they aren't mobile.

Ah Chee had 3 touches, 0 tackles, 0.0 :crossmark:

Cripps 7 touches, 2 tackles, 0.0 :crossmark:

Petch 8 touches, 0 tackles, 1.2

Disgusting :toilet:

I miss the 2018 Eagles that came from behind twice to beat Collingwood in the finals. And broke Melbourne.

2019 and 2020 Eagles are a pack of gutless wonders. Running harder in a scratch match? Seriously?

Fold the club.

I really hope there's method to the madness and there's a reason the Eagles lost, GWS lost and Collingwood and Richmond did whatever the hell it was they did. But the similarities to last year's shitshow is scary from an Eagles perspective.

We started pretty bad in 2018 didnt we?

Reports that Zorko has achilles soreness and may not play on Saturday.

I am not going to injury cheer, and can't see him missing the game.

We lost our first game to a team that ended up making finals, because we got flattened by one of the games all time great forwards.

Apples and Oranges.

But I still think we are every bit a chance in every game. But there are some question marks, no doubt.

We weren't even bad that game, I was more excited after that loss over the entirety of 2017, maybe except for the Port final :)

Fk it.

In: Williams, Watson, Schoey.
Out: AhGeez, Nelson, Gov (pending suspension).

Allen stays forward, Williams rotates ruck duties with NN.

We got beaten comprehensively that year by Essendon (at home) and North, neither of who played finals.

We seem to have these periodic games where we just completely shut down and get rolled over. Hopefully that’s what Saturday was, but **** it was a bad one.

A lot of angst amongst the supporters about the performance last night but I can't see a changes thread yet.

Who would you take out?

I don't really know how the team is going injury wise but for the sake of defensive pressure I wouldn't mind seeing Cameron in if he is fit.

Given that it is another night game in Queensland I assume it will be greasy again, so getting more run into the team will be important.

In: Cameron
Out: Ah Chee

That is only for team balance reasons, I don't think Ah Chee was any worse than a large number of players. If they wanted they could also move him into the contest and get a bigger body over the ball, in which case you would be looking at dropping someone like Brander. I would like to see Brander get an extended run of games though.

Cole is also a possible inclusion.
Charlie Cameron will be a very tough match up, he'll devour Nelson. So yeah I'd bring in Cole as I think he'll be a slightly better match up.

I'm now thinking if we leave the hub post the Tigers game 2-3 will be a good result. 3-3 if we do play the crows game!
3-2 is a very very good result, but unlikely against Lions, PA, Tigers especially at Metricon where we've never played well.

If we can leave the hub 3-2 and then have a hub in Perth, we could then go 7-2 or 6-3.
We are good enough, but up against it.

Yep, hawks round 23 last year was another...

I'm sure it is not quite this simple - but it 'seems' the players get a bit ahead of themselves and look at games a week/fortnight in advance as the coming weeks fixture has been decided and WC awarded the 4 points. Then all of a sudden we are losing to a team we 'should beat'

The key things we need to see this week are urgency and desire. They might have been left on the tarmac or something as they certainly weren't present in our GC game.

I'm not sure on the personnel changes - as honestly that alone will fix nothing - but I think if possible we should look to have a player debut and if there is a good news story maybe run with that. Anything to jolt the playing group into a bit of feeling!

We could be looking to fill venables role? We seriously need a player to fill his role.
BAHAHA. Venables role? He was the worst player and most overrated player during that period. He had no role period. If role you mean 6 possessions a game kicking 1-2 goals. We pumped games in him hoping to get a diamond out of coal.

The problem is structure
(a) NN is not fit to run out games
(b) Hence the extra ruckman -
(c) Oscar Allen looks a natural forward, i would prefer to see him play that role

Use Bailey Williams as a ruckman and Achee out
Franky Watson or Cole for Nelson
Schoey for Gov depending on the Tribunal

Boy we miss Jarrod Cameron or a Rioli
Your post is pretty much bang on and I'm not saying Allen isn't best-suited to playing forward long-term, but you can't say he hasn't displayed positive attributes in the middle that make it appealing to continue with his pinch-hitting, such as clean hands, field kicking and ground skills, quick reactions, good decision-making, the ability to ride tackles and get the arms free, deceptive pace off the first few steps and decent pressure. He helped create the first two goals of our 3-goal run in the 2nd quarter playing ruck, getting on the end of the 3rd. It was the only period where we looked threatening.

It's rare to find a 2nd-ruck who genuinely influences centre clearances and becomes a serious threat when rotated forward. It forces a shuffle of the opposition defence. The guy is a natural footballer and can play anywhere, but I agree that the club ultimately sees him in a more pure KPF role once Kennedy departs. It could be a possibility that Allen replaces Ah Chee in the forward line this week, with Bailey or another ruck coming in as cover. However, that setup could be one tall too many for the selection committee.

There's a fair bit riding on Nic. We have an extra ruckman in the 22 to cover his limited game time (or, if you like, Allen is playing less forward time than he otherwise would), and an extra ruckman on the list to cover injury. I love the guy, really hope we can see consistent footy for a couple of seasons. Is it a dream to hope for longer?

I was actually thinking of 2015 so yeah 2018 was reasonable.

Rotham / Schofield for McGovern

Think we also need Hutchings in for Redden this week to sit on Neale or he’ll carve us up

Heard that Round 6 will be a derby, and that Geelong will be one of the two vic clubs coming across to Perth following that match. The AFL plans just two games in that WA hub, under the assumption that all borders will open by round 9. If not, then two more Vic clubs will fly over to WA.
