If you carry all 3, only room for 1 true ruck. IMO we play too many bigs in the 22 already. Afl is a running game in the modern era and that obviously favours players under 190cm. Whilst rucks are important, it is still overrated given well under half of winning taps go to advantage anyway.

In that scenario, I'd like to see Day or Lynch play back line and take the opposition no.2 or 3 forward.

Want to see dicko play deep full forward, he is capable of kicking bags but if not draws a contest for the small forwards.

Its a running game if you dont have the ball, if you have quality talls and they are marking the ball then thats a different story

One thing to note from the Richmond team mentioned is that we're out of small players.

Webberley in for White is pretty much a certainty because Webberley is the only realistic option remaining (Webberley is a very good VFL standard player, but that's his level and he's a near certainty to be delisted at the end of the year). The rest are injured, suspended or sacked.

The other 2 possibilities are promoting Turner from the rookie list (he shows good signs, but is far too raw) or playing Moore as 3rd tall backman (although he's not fully match fit after long term injury) and shuffling the rest of the defenders down in size.

From the lack of response to our posts I've reached the conclusion that you guys aren't really into opposition banter.

I think its more of a case of respect for the opposition as we are a young club. Realistically we don't have a leg to stand on given our history other than we beat you last year :P

If we play anything like we have when we've pushed teams this year, then we are in with a shot at winning this. With Martin, and Foley out of the middle, the only real danger is Cotchin and Maric. Up forward there is only Riewoldt to worry about. So not a lot of danger compared to other clubs we've pushed with bigger stars.

Ablett I think will have a blinder this week, I think Day also might do some damage and probably could have looked better than his 1.3 he kicked on the weekend.

Also a case of the suns forum has probably 10 regular posters. Other clubs like Richmond would have hundreds if not 4 figures.

Probably the most likely explanation.

Be interesting to see if that number grows by a couple if we bring 4 points home (again) from Cairns

Looking forward to this game if for no other reason than to shut up my GCS mate :D

Seriously though, worried about this game after your effort last week, your likely decent ins, and the belief you will have playing us in Cairns (after last years win).

IMO based upon year to date, there are 2 things you need to do to beat us:

1) stop our run and spread - force the stoppages as much as possible, don't let us play on, and target Grigg/Houli

2) make it rain

This is nothing against Josh Hall, but I'm extremely surprised to see him getting a debut this year. When I saw him just a few weeks ago against Broadbeach he was beaten in nearly every contest. Granted, he was playing at FB on Eagle (monster of a man), so was willing to cut him some slack. With this in mind, it's unlikely you would see him down back.

He'll either play some ruck time or play exclusively in the forward half. I keep reading in the NEAFL reports that he's doing amazing things in the forward half, so fingers crossed. Just not feeling good about it. His inclusion also likely means that Smith will be dropped.

Word on the vine is that A. Hall is also likely to get the call-up. He and Patrick are really fighting for that spot right now. I thought Patrick is doing the right things, but just cannot cap the efforts off with good execution.

So maybe something like...

OUT: Wilkinson(inj), Weller(omit), Z. Smith(omit), Patrick
IN: Swallow, Iles, J. Hall, A. Hall

1 too many halls for my liking! In all honesty, havent seen anything of J Hall.

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind dropping Smith seeing were going against Maric, one of the top inform ruckmen this year. Hickey will probably monstered, Dixon has the mongrel in him to compete. Then theres always Brennan to pinch hit and be a 4th onballer which could certainly provide headaches.

there will be interesting changes thats for sure:
guessing it will be:

In: Swallow, J.Hall, A.Hall, L.Russell
Out: Wilkinson, Patrick, Smith, Horsley

what it should be:

In: Iles, Swallow, A.Hall, Russell (if fit)
out: Wilkinson (inj), Weller, Patrick, Hunt

Iles needs to come in but i really dont think he will. he would be in our top 5 players easily yet for some reason we dont give games on performance.
frustration to say the least. i hope im wrong.

with Hunt, i know ill cope critisism but he plays midfield for 75% of each game and gets approx 8-10 touches a game and thats it. yeah we all like to see his big hits and its exciting to see how far he has come but he would not get a game on merit at any other club and certainly shouldnt here.

Forgot about Russell! Another one competing for that Hall/Patrick role.

Hunt has certainly become less effective as the season has worn in, that's for sure. But he set up a couple of goals against the Cats with a few clearances, and nearly kicked one himself. Holds his spot above some others right now.

On a sidenote, I'm really looking forward to seeing how McKenzie goes in this game. He mentioned in Suns RAW that he finally felt like he was up to his regular fitness after having no pre-season at all. It certainly showed against the Cats. Looked vintage Cannon material, really.

Greatly looking forward to see how he backs it up. We need him to be kicking goals if we're any sort of chance.

Really we close to full strength this week , if Swallow and Iles come in , $7.20 for a under 39.5 GC win looks good .
$10 on Richmond by under 39 @$2.25
$10 on Gold Coast by under 39 @$6.25

Unless Richmond flog us, you can't lose

Russell will be a handy return as I rate his running and his goal kicking is first rate, Josh Hall has a fantastic leap, good height and running ability.

If they both come in and Swallow as well we have very good team missing only Bock, May, Lynch and R Thompson from our best side.

Josh hall is a good prospect but don't expect it to be a regular thing, he will be ack on te rookie list next season assuming all fit.

Didn't see his debut coming, coincidence or not that he is debuting in his home area? Same thing happened to kiddy last year. Board pressure?

Other examples of this are players being called back into the seniors when there is an away game in their home state, what is going on!

Josh Hall has come on in leaps and bounds in the last 6 weeks , well deserved albeit a bit surprising , looks like we are going to try and stretch the Tigers in the forawrd half.

Not real keen on J.Hall debuting this week. If its stormy, rainy as predicted we have a tall enough side as it is, we need little ball winners. Not tall debutants this week, no offence to the guy.

I'd like to see Iles, Swallow in for sure, and perhaps even retain Weller for another week? He's got a little nugget body and likes to take the man/contest on.

I'd like to see hunt Play on matchups only. Sense there is board pressure though he must play every week. He hasn't played enough Neafl, get him there as a mature body mcqualtar style.

Similar to my other point with players coincidentally debuting/coming in for games in their home town.
