No, you just rewrite the past to suit your story instead
Lol.
No I just share my opinion on it. Isn't that what we do here?
Otherwise everyone is who expressed their opinion on our past rewrites it to suit their story.

Tell me who our best win away was in 2015?
And what about 2016?

My opinion is we struggle away from home against top sides and have done for years.
We have a side that underperforms against top sides away.

We do struggle away from home against top sides, nobody is arguing that we don't

But to say we haven't beaten a top side away from home in years is blatantly false when we won games against GWS and Adelaide on the road in the lead in to last years finals.

yeah but they took us lightly

Teams can have off days, that's what I think he means by "taken lightly", where they can idle along for games and not play to their full potential. I don't see anything wrong with what he's saying there? It happens with all sports.

But the GWS game was a bit of a slog and those guys never gave up and neither did Adelaide. If anything we dragged GWS down to our level a bit.

We should stop taking teams lightly when we travel to the MCG? Has anyone told Simmo this?

Our best away win in 2015 was probably either Port at the Adelaide Oval or Richmond at the MCG.

2016 was probably coming back from 23 points down in the last quarter against GWS.

I don't think taking things lightly should be taken lightly.

Nah, it's blatantly stupid. The argument I believe was that we don't beat good, in-form teams away from home. When GWS and Adelaide was pointed out the reply was 'nah they just took us lightly'. Teams can have off days but we played pretty good footy against those teams (while smashing an in form Hawthorn in between) who then proceeded to play well in the finals immediately after that. There's equal merit to saying Hawthorn's premiership in 2015 shouldn't really be counted because we were the better team all year but had an off day, i.e. no merit.

You should really check the fixture for that year to check we didn't have away wins against good sides in those years before making this point. Richmond, Port, GWS and Adelaide come to mind. We also were unlucky not to knock off the Dogs in round 1 of 2015 at Etihad.

Playing top sides away from home is not a problem specific to us - it's the hardest ask in footy. Beating us in Perth is also immensely difficult for interstate teams when we have been a top six side. For what it's worth, we have an 80% winning margin at Adelaide Oval. When you go through it we are specifically poor at the MCG, SCG and in Geelong, whilst we maintain good records generally at Etihad, AO, Metricon, Spotless and the GABBA.

Well. I'm glad to be corrected about my statements. Happy to find out we are a top team at beating top sides away from home.
Hopefully we beat port this weekend.
Just wish wed beaten the top sides like Collingwood each year at the mcg, (especially last year) and hawthorn in the 2015 gf after we flogged them here at home in the qf. And add Sydney at the scg, oh and Geelong in Geelong.

Thanks for correcting my incorrect thinking that we are a mediocre side that struggled away from home.

Expecting us to win everywhere now. Bring on Collingwood at the G!

So we've gone for the sarcasm route now?

Name a side that has a better, or even similar, record away from home as they do when playing at home.

Go ahead, I'll wait.

No one disagrees with your comment that we struggle away from home. We just disagree with your apparent view that our away wins last year against GWS (8-1 at home when we played them) and Adelaide (10-1) count for nothing. They were great wins against formidable sides with awesome home records pushing for places in the top 4. They did not take us lightly.

As for whether we are a mediocre side... I'll have to get back to you cos I'm currently on the fence on that one.

Team fails to win must win games. Simples. I personally don't think we'll get within 6 goals of Port mainly because we are a Ferrari with a Commodore engine in it. A very good team with a massive flaw. This was my comment from the "how can we screw up the Hawks game thread" and other than swapping out the venue and opponent there's no reason to change a word.

I wont be surprised if we lose do actually lose this. Mainly because since the Richmond game I've seen no discernible change in pace around the midfield and the MCG horribly exposes that. We should win but I feel like most games so far we'll be relying on the Hawks turning the ball over through poor skill or execution rather than them playing well and us just beating them because we are better. We just aren't a premiership team the way our midfield is currently structured.

Quick question: How can any team be called "a very good team" if it has a massive flow?

I didn't say they counted for nothing. They were good wins and surprising.
I just said there was merit in what the other poster said and tried to explain my reasoning.

We have e a few sides we can't beat away. Most times anyway.
Our best win away in 2015 was Richmond at the mcg and from memory they did t make the finals. All other top 8 sides we played and beat at home.
The draw was in our favour that year and I'm glad. I'll take it but it would be nice to travel and beat Sydney, Collingwood, Geelon, Essendon etc away when they are up and firing. We can't seem to beat them away when they aren't.
That's all I'm saying.

That's a fair point. Most sides struggle.away from home. It's a problem for all teams.

Hawthorn has a pretty good away record especially over the last 6 years. As does Geelong over the last 10.

When we had our best midfielders cousins Kemp etc. Those bygone eras.
We seemed to be able to beat good sides away more often than not.

Our record away against good sides with this midfield group is poor in my opinion and according to our results.

Adelaide and gws notwithstanding. Great wins as they were.

I did check. Our best win away was Richmond at the g.

Stop relying on your memory. Richmond finished 5th

So I'm not sure what your point is? They finished 5th? If the criticism is that we didn't beat any top four sides away from home - I'm just not sure that's a really a big deal, I'm sure there have been many premiers in the past who haven't beaten an interstate top four side on their own deck that year. We do have a problem for as long as we can't win games at the MCG, however.
