Unofficial Preview Changes for week one of Finals (Out: Madgen, Murphy, Ox : In: Treloar, Howe, Goldsack)

Moore has had full training now for all of last week and yesterday but still not right ....Looks as though Murphy or Madgen play, but l think Madgen stays in because of Darling and Kennedy. He also can free up Howe to play his normal intercept role.

I’ll be very concerned still!

I agree.
Goldsack in for Madgen
Howe in for Oxley
Treloar in for Murphy

Yep. The only variant to that I’d think about being happy with is to keep Murphy and drop a mid, eg aish or sier. But realistically no mids deserve to be dropped. One of them can be swung back to the defensive six or seven

If we are going to take a risk with players, this is the week. At least we still have the double chance.

If we lose this week, then it will be equally as dangerous bringing guys like Treloar and Goldsack in next week with no match prep in a do or die final.

Better to give them the run this week, and if we win then they get a whole fortnight to recover. If not, then they are better for the run next week. If they get injured...then better it happens while we still have a life left.

I understand the hesitations with Goldsack, but in my opinion he is a Premiership player with 12 years of experience. I back him over Magden and Oxley every day. Magden was playing basketball last year. Although Goldsack may not be fully match fit, he has over a decade of nouse, experience and match conditioning to hold him in good stead. Not to mention finals experience.

To be honest, I would have taken the punt on Reid and Moore as well.

It's only 3 games. We don't need to hold them back. They just need to get through 3 games. Not a time to go cautious. A backline of Moore, Reid, Goldsack and Howe might just get us to a premiership. I'm fairly certain a backline of Magden, Oxley and Murphy will not.

So I don't see a choice. We need to take a punt on these guys. And this is the week to do it because next week the stakes will be too high and we can't risk them breaking down,

Didak in that game!

No Goldsack please. He's borderline best 22 (probably just outside in truth) even when he's fully match fit. Magden has played several in a row and should only be replaced by Moore (if fit) at this stage. It's amazing how crucial Dunn had become before getting hurt. He's a gun and is massively underappreciated.

Otherwise. Howe and Treloar in.
Murphy and one of Oxley or Mayne out. Probably Oxley.

So where does he fit into the following back 6?

Langdon, Dunn, Maynard
Howe Scharenberg, Crisp

He's not a better key position player, mark, kick or set up player than Dunn or Scharenberg. He's not a batter mark or set up player than Langdon or Howe. He's not a better running backman than Crisp or Maynard. He doesn't provide the grunt and kicking skills of Maynard.

He's a tall who often struggles 1 on 1 and can't mark well over his head, so he's an average KPD who can't be a mark and kick player. He is a jack of all trades, master of none. I love the bloke but to suggest he is guaranteed best 22 is nonsense. He is obviously not.

But two important parts of that backline are not playing at the moment and will not till sometime next year.
Till then goldy what ever you think of him as a player, does it really matter

Even in 2010 he was the bona fide best 23
;)

That's gold for Specsavers

Should have gone :p

Langdon far more important, vital, skilled than the much appreciated Mr Goldsack

Agree, at his best yes Goldy plays but he moved like a Mack truck on the weekend and had 2 touches while blowing like the north wind. No way in hell should he play this week.

Goldsack anyday over
Langdon.

No way.

Other than stars who play regardless, everyone else is picked based on the role they play.

Goldsack does not have the attributes to play Langdon's role. He is a poor overhead mark and doesn't get (anywhere near) enough of the ball. To top it off, Langdon has been holding our backline together and has been our best defender for a month. No way he gets dropped.

On paper yeh that backline reads better but on the likely chance one or more go down mid game we are screwed. Even if they don't Reid is slow as hell, he's cooked done . It won't happen.
Moore I'd love to see tho

Disagree he’s a poor overhead mark - I’ve see him pluck a few forward.

Agree he’s not like for like with Langdon. In the team we have now (ie no Shaz or Dunne) he replaces Madgen easily. Both Goldy and Langdon chase and tackle and can kill the ball in the air.

When Dunne and Shaz return Goldy would be a better replacement for Mayne tbh
