So we don't exactly have a canvas to paint with here, but I'm tipping some wholesale dice rolling to get some fresher legs 6-days out. Oh, and of course to respond to the Chevron Curse of Injuries.

McPharlap, Mellington, Pearce, Kep Monster, Hinkley, anyone who hasn't played three tough games in 17 days (??).

Yeah I agree. 5+ changes coming up this week.

I remember the game we played against the Saints earlier this year. You know the one where the bookies had us favorites to win, even without Sandi?

The Saints used the press really well that day and locked the ball in their forward 50. They also kept Schneider and Milne free at the front of the forward press so that when the ball was bombed into their attacking half, Milne and Scheider just ran onto the loose ball and ran into an open goal without a Freo player in sight.

Those two work beautifully together.

I hope we have those two covered this time.

We never have Schneider covered!!!

I don't know what it is with this bloke, but he carves us up every time he plays against us. I'm sure every other week he just does enough to keep his spot in the team but once he comes up against us - look out!

Even when he was with the Swans he liked playing us. His history of hurting us goes back that far! Remember the final loss to the Swans? Roger had done a reasonable job on him, but when the game was on the line in the last he kicked about 3 and set 1 or 2 others up and gave Rog an absolute bath.

Wouldn't Fisher go to Pav again?

Depends. I couldn't see Fish run with Pav if he spend the game in the guts. If we bring in Keplar and have Anthony up forward I would think Fish stays back.
If Pav goes forward then surely he will make amends to the earlier match up this year against Fish.

Fish kept up with him in the mid in their first clash this year?

I'd say Crowley should get first crack at Dal Santo.

Try to get Hill matched up with Montagna.

JVB to Schneider?

We bottled up Riewoldt and Milne last time with McPharlin and Grover. I reckon Silvagni could be a trump card playing loose man or even going forward?

silvagni up forward is definitely worth it if we can spare him. has a hoof on him, is accurate from outside 50 and at the moment, is up there with fyfe for best read of the flight of the footy on the team.

Lol you obviously were not watching when Fisher completely blanketed Pavlich earlier this year.
21 disposals is blanketing? Interesting terminology there. He is not a tagger, he is not a defender. He is a flanker. And I know, I watched him in the 2003 SANFL Grand Final for my beloved Wests.

Apologies scholar.

Fisher ensured Pavlich had NO impact on the contest whatsoever.

Better? :)

Schammer is rumoured to be an in?

Anyone heard this whisper?

Harvey mentioned on PR that he was in the squad they were looking at taking over to Melbourne at this stage. Don't know if that would be finalised yet though, wouldn't think so.

Anyone heard this whisper?

The way I see it the only reason Schammer should ever play for us again is as a farewell game (and I think he deserves it, as does any 100+ game servant of the club).

Given that, there's only two scenarios:

1) the scenario where we think we've no chance of making the finals. In this scenario we hold off giving him a game till we're out of the race

2) the scenario where we think we'll be legitimately be fighting for a top 8 spot right up to the last round. In this scenario we give Schammer a farewell game in the match we realistically have the least chance of winning.

Maybe we're killing two birds with one stone this weekend - Scham gets a farewell game and we get to implement a micro version of Launcestank.

cbf reading all of the earlier posts, but something which caught my eye last game was the use of the 3 forwards: Pav, Mayne & Anthony in the backline in the last 1/4.

it got me 2 thinking that maybe we have had the wrong big bodied forward helping the midfield out all year!

it should have been Mayne throwing his weight around in the midfield, tackling, harrassing & generally getting into the play, while the great man was left as a high 1/2 fwd. this might also take away the need for a McPhee type & pave the way 4 some more sparkle in the forward line.

maybe the argument is that Mayne does not have the tank 2 play midfield, but i'm sure that rotations would ensure that he could be looked after.

I agree its time to give Schammer a go, he's done all that can be expected in the WAFL and frankly we need him.

Anthony has to be persisted with, last weeks game was hardly a fair yard stick.

How's Griffen pulling up?

I reckon this could be seriously on the cards. Send a better-than-B-team that tries to win for v St Kilda, but that's it. All the while resting up some blokes for as much of a tilt as possible at the last two home with the hope of plucking a win out of the last two away.

Just realised this is our first game at Etihad this season, considering our previous record at the ground and our last performance against the Saints, I'm not looking forward to Friday night to be honest. It's going to take a huge team effort off a 6 day break and travel to go anywhere near a win.

Out - Palmer, De Boer, McPhee, Mayne, Crowley
In - Griffin, McPharlin, Suban, Kepler, Mellington

This has been touched upon a few times this year. The general consensus seems to be that given Mayne is effectively wrapped in cotton wool at training each and every week, in order to be available on game day, even a semi-permanent midfield role may be asking too much of him.

When he first came to the club I thought the only chance he had of making it as a player was as your typical hard at it midfielder. After since seeing how hard he works off the footy, he seems the perfect HF that can also get involved in the stoppage play. His lead up work is fantastic, he works hard when the ball is in his area, he tackles hard, applies pressure, runs well etc

At any rate he is certainly wasted somewhat by spending the majority of his time playing deep in the forward line.

Out - Palmer, De Boer, McPhee, Mayne, Crowley
In - Griffin, McPharlin, Suban, Kepler, Mellington

There's simply no way that Crowley will come out when we've already lost DeBoer. On top of that no way that McPhee will come out either for the same reason.

OUT: Palmer (inj), DeBoer (inj), Mayne (inj?), Roberton

IN: McPharlin, Griffin, Mellington, Suban

May be more outs as well, not sure how Lower (shoulder) and Broughton (cork) will pull up.
