I’m ok with the changes . Rioli in and MeEntee out was a no brainer thankfully.
Hard to say on this one .
It’s not a final so we might be ok , depends a bit which Geelong turns up too .
I’ll be interested to watch Burgoyne on Dempsey , because Dempsey cut him up for a half in the final last year so he’d be wanting to atone , he’s becoming one of our better players lately and I’d like to think he has growth to come in his game .
If only we could get a bit more out of Lord , maybe this week . I don’t mind him , he attacks the contest well , just needs to get to more contests .
Hopefully Finlayson got some confidence from last week and can perform again , he’s actually quite a good player when he’s at the top of his game .
I’m not marvelling at Drew as much lately another 30% out of him would be handy , he should be in his prime around now .
Wait and see how it pans out

no better replacmeent in sanfl for lord

moraes and especially mead very lucky as lorenz and jackson respectively would be 100x better
100 x better seems like a stretch. I think it would be 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other.

Less than 20 posts in 5 hours since the team was announced. How's the fan engagement going
Stability.

Why chase highs like engagement or premierships?

The quietest Showdown crowd ever says otherwise.
Crowd size was large but not kicking a goal for 30 minutes definitely makes the crowd quieter. Crowd engagement/conversations/interactions at the games is completely different than the majority of what’s on this forum. Less hate, more support. The garbage said about our players on here I’ve not heard at the game. Maybe when people are out with their families/mates they’re more conscious of how hypocritical they look/sound in their XXXL guernsey and their div 8 experience.

Yeah I know this line has been repeated but it wasn't my experience. The roar when JHF got that last centre clearance was massive.
Yeah, but up until that it was dead. The entire 'comeback' had as much excitement as a funeral, until suddenly we were 1 goal down with a min to play.

First quarter there was a bit of atmosphere, but it was quickly blunted as they got on top and Hinkleyball started to appear again. We got a bit of a grinding run on, and there was a bit of excitement, but there were clearly a lot of nerves in the crowd and lack of belief as we didn't put them away, and then once they were on top again in the 3rd the crowd just totally disappeared until that last 1 minute.

This is so much happy clapper crap.

We used to sit there weekly in a crowd that used to be so passionate, loud and excited by our team. It hasn't been that way since 2015/2016. The majority of noise our crowd makes now is sighing at mistakes we make, or booing umpires. We used to cheer every kick and mark, there used to be chants regularly, these are now rare. We're in such a boring malaise as a supporter base from this ridiculous 'stability' enforced on us by the board.

The majority of the fan base is unhappy with where we are at and what we are producing, every port fan I hear at games, out at work or amongst friends, are all apart from a happy clapper every now and then, really unhappy. Supporting Port has become a real chore and depressing. We haven't had hope in so many years it's crazy.

The comment about players is correct of sorts. Of course no one is standing in the crowd yelling out a 2 paragraph statement on a player about their ability. Critical statements in the heat of the moment about players have always happened though, and of course still do, I've been sitting in the outer for 40 years hearing them. Regardless the players aren't the fans targets though for the supporter bases frustrations.

Ahhhh the old " Well you haven't played AFL footy so you can't be critical of anything a professional sports team or player do ever"

The only guy I would really want out of that team is Burton.

It would be nice to have a few guys challenging Lord, Mead, Drew and Finlayson for spots.

We will see whether the Cats exploit the matchup of Burton.

It is relevant, because for some of us Kenny just leaving isn’t enough.

Some of us want to see he and Koch driven into the dust and eating humble pie, and for it to become publicly unequivocal through a string of bad losses that not only was this handover year a monumental balls-up and mistake, so too was the decision to the keep the senior coach employed for this long in spite of the many sackable moments.

So in that case, yep bring on the losses. Josh Carr can pick us up at ground zero.
For the record I don't personally agree with this position (though I do find it understandable).

Kenny leaving is definitely enough for me, and I want the club to remain strong. Fixing our culture matters so much more than skills, individual players or wins/losses. We need a cultural shift to accountability and belief if we're ever going to seriously challenge for a premiership again.

This is pretty logical - of course people are going to be more critical on an online forum as its a place for indepth analysis and debate. Do you expect people when out with their mates and families having a few beers on game day to use that time to be critical? Why would you even go to a game to do that? Its like saying why do people who sit and read books quietly in libraries end up being social when at parties?

Also not sure its really hypocritical to be critical of players even if we aren't in shape like they are. They're paid a LOT of money to deliver, we aren't. If they don't want that pressure they can walk away from the money any time they want.
