In: Cunnington Durdin Wright

Out: Hibberd Thompson Mountford

Hansen was pants and is finished however against fatty and Stanley he gets 1 last career chance to not suck.

Geelong aren't fast other than Danger so Clarke can wait a week.

What I'd like to see is
Out-Swallow.

In- Cunnington.

What will happen is

Out-Hibbard

In- Cunnington.

Although the debuntees didn't show much we need to give them 2-3 at a time.

Would love to see Durdin and EVW get a chance in 2-3 weeks as well as Clark and Wagner.

Will be a tough year to find the balance of getting games into youngsters and staying competitive.

As much as I have enjoyed seeing the improvement of Pruess over the Pre Season I am not not really certain how he was selected ahead of Daw. I cant see how he plays in any other position than Ruck occasionally resting forward.

Happy to see either Hibberd or Mountford get another game but I am not sure we can play them both again next week and I would have one out for Cunnington.

Did u happen to see how effective Goldy was resting forward? He was probably more effective than Daw could've been.

Having two genuinely good rucks is something we need to try for a while. The upper hand we get when Pruess or Goldy is tucking against a second ruck is a very good advantage.

No problem with the team and id have no hesitation in retiring off 3 of the 4 outs. But just keep in mind how the selectors will be looking at the season, once you drop those older players how do you ever bring them back in given their almost certainly done end of season? To drop them after 1 game effectively means we should've just delisted them last year.

Maybe we should have, but imagine the squealing if we had of and lost today by 43pts! The idea might be rotating youngsters around for the first half of the year and then phasing out Swallow, Gibson, Thompson, Hansen, perhaps Waite (unless in cracking form) in the second half. To me it makes sense so just thought id mention it before the Scott lynch mob goes out for blood when the older crew are selected again and again.........in the first half of the year.

Where is Hansen in all that?

Simpkin was blowing mid way through the 2nd quarter.

He spent all year last year out with a broken leg. He doesn't have the tank to be a threat for four quarters.

Would love him to play in the midfield at VFL and get some of the footy to get his confidence up.

I don't want the club to pigeon hole him across half forward, which we seem to do with every bloody half decent draftee
Play him into fitness, we need to get these sorts of talents to 50 games quickly if we want to rebuild.

Yeah good shout.....Daw offers more goal threat for mine....He would have been slated for playing a similar game to Preuss today

Other than reward for hard work over the summer, also the fact it keeps the coals burning, whilst Daw at VFL level builds up his skill level and quality minutes. Once Maj is showing something Preuss drops down to VFL level for a decent stint.

I thought Preuss was really good for his first game. Some of his hitouts were excellent and given Goldy kicked 3 when forward there's no way we should drop him.

Daw didn't get a game because they said he is too underdone. Like Anderson, Garner and Wright it might just take Maj a couple more weeks to get his game back. I'd expect to see all of them plus Wood in 3 weeks ideally

Geelong good tonight. Fatty not so fat. Danger will murder us.

In Cunners. Wright. Garner. Durdin

Out. Thompson. Hibberd Hansen Gibson

Maybe but u can't compare Preuss's first game to what Daw should be doing.

Pruess's contribution is pretty much what a second ruck gets these days in terms of possesions etc.
Daw might come in for him next week i agree but i would stick with Goldy/Preuss next week, him and Goldy kicked 4 between them and one day these two are going to dominate a game and kick 6/7 between them.

True enough, Preuss' game was pretty encouraging to be fair

Everyone's solution seems to be drop experienced players for more debutants, but how much did Hibberd, Simpkin, Mountford and Preuss contribute today? Almost nothing.

Thommo, Hansen, Gibson and Swallow shouldn't be part of our long-term planning and were all average to terrible today, but we can't just play all the kids at once. They'll get absolutely destroyed, their confidence will be wrecked and they won't learn a thing.

I get the frustration with these guys, but they still contribute more than first gamers will be able to. It will be a gradual process to introduce the young players, as it should be.

So let's sum up this thread ...

IN: A bunch of kids
OUT: Everybody over the age of 28

Our kids combined for a total of around 15 touches and **** all today, but it seems reasonable.
Not sure if serious but they all debuted today....

Against West Coast.

Yeah, but we have to know Preuss can do the job when Goldy is part of a Kelly trade.

I agree with the sentiment but it's not just about impact, but also experience and learning. We can still achieve the balance with some changes.

Cunnington and Clarke, to a lesser extent, would be an upgrade on Swallow and Hibberd. (Mountford to go with Danger re pace, role and development). Clarke, while relatively inexperienced, isn't a debutant, and surely has to be seen as part of a future midfield mix, especially with Froggy.

Durdin and Wright/EVW is about form, and Thompson is done, underdone, or out of form. I'm doubtful Lachie makes it back from here too.
