All I'll say is it would be a very brave coach that would insist Tommy plays this week unless he's 110% ready to go after the fallout from the weekend.

I'm also not privvy to Lynch's GPS numbers like the coach and fitness crew
The Telstra's heat map showed he had no issue covering the ground offensively and defensively at top pace but he still had no influence as the sub while playing almost the entire 4th quarter, Nicks backed him to find form which he couldn't do so he was made the sub which he again had no influence on the game (3 possessions and 1 of them was a clanger), admittedly the entire team was sh*t in the 4th quarter but still based on form he will be dropped this week.

Surprisingly, he actually averaged the 3rd highest sprint average on the ground, clocking in at 9.6 KM/H, which was faster than any Hawks player averaged. Also led the game with average speed in the Forward 50 with 9.9 km/h. He would have been helped by having fresh legs, but at least initially he wasn't showing any signs on being hampered judging by the GPS stats.

Lynch already has excellent endurance which is why he is very good at that connector role running between the 50m arc all day and tiring out his opponent so he doesn't need as much training session to keep up his fitness level like the other players. Once you numb your toe you can physically play without having severe impact on how you cover the ground, hence footballer have been using these treatment to allow them to play and these are the data Nicks will be looking at on whether the toe is affecting him, however his form has been sh*t and has been since a few years ago.

Injury update:

Berry - progressed well, is a test
Hamill - scans on his twice rolled ankle
Lynch - still having loads managed
Davis - rolled ankle, 1-2 weeks away
Sloane - aiming for Showdown return
All good options for the sub

I'm sticking with my view that we need to give Chayce another chance. This year isn't about winning.

I do agree, he has a final shot left.

It's just not now. Reconsider in the back half of the year.

Re Fog, I paid little bit of attention to his centre bounce work again. He often goes to one of oppns most dangerous mids and seems to be concerned more about defense than getting the ball himself. I’ve seen it enough to think it might be his planned role in CBAs.

that makes a lot of sense as he’s been getting a lot of CBA’s, a lot more than his obvious output would suggest he should

I can’t be bothered doing the analysis myself but I wonder what his direct opponent’s centre clearance rate is when he’s in there, and also our side’s centre clearance rate is with him in there vs not in there.

I think he's playing as a sort of enforcer in the middle. Kind of like an offensive lineman in the NFL. Not a tagger. More like he is trying to make space for the other mids.

Not sure how much value it adds. But it might explain his low disposal numbers.

I watched him closely at the ground on Sunday too, he got burned by O'Meara. Should not have been on that match up ... but when he got stuck he needed to be way more defensive than he was - JOM was just too quick. When he played the enforcer-hard over the ball role he was great, still see a spot for him in there - but he needs to do his thing more often. Fog has a great side step and is surprisingly evasive, hopefully we get to see this develop :-)

I feel like Fog and Jones are suffering a similar issue. Both seem to have lost that instinct to be the problem for the opposition, they seem so intent on their opponent. When we setup for a bounce, our guys seem to go their mids - very rarely the other way around.

Well, he did play a key supporting role in getting rid of Burgoyne from the match. ;)

Good post .....that big Mid is struggling somewhat currently with the new rules ....Cripps also struggling

However teams are now slowing the game down more, stoppages will increase and the big mid will become relevant again ......it'll take Fog longer than 3 games to learn his Mid role, and balance of attack v defence

Surely that's a -10/10 impact?

Im off the opinion that the club has played there role in the demise of Jones and Fish

We played both players before they were ready and with Jones we played him in numerous roles, none of them his preferred role that he played in his junior footy

We spent most of the time playing Jones as an inside mid. Jones made his name as an inside mid in the U18s (to the point he was named a U18 AA).

We've wrecked Jones, but I doubt it is from using him before it's ready.

McAsey is just a 2nd year key back. It's pretty rare they come in an do well, unless they're playing loose.

From the sounds of it he took a step forward last week when playing at half back. If that's the case, then let him settle there and play 6-8 games purely in that role. Hopefully he keeps improving and finds a role that lets his talent come out.
Then, and only then, should we consider him for AFL again.

Sounded promising. I'm yet to watch it but hopefully we can reinvent Jones into a useful piece.

I do agree though. Don't even consider it until round 12-14 unless he starts putting together big games regularly before hand. It is important we get something from that pick, and we are afforded a fair bit of time for Chayce to work things out.

Jones has wrecked himself. He is simply not good enough.
