Well, for a start there's an increased load of work that I don't think he'd be equipped to handle, though he could play short stints in there. Gov is also better at using space and drifting into a contest than he is in a 1on1 wrestle. Might leave his shoulder exposed.Seen this point posted a few times, can't see how it is true (and yes I have played football before someone asks)
Rucking around the ground is no different to marking contests really in terms of body contact. And as a backup ruck he'd only really be taking 2/3 centre bounces a qtr max, how is it an increased risk of injury compared to the way he launches into packs now? Plus, he gets some sort of injury nearly every game in his position now, it's hardly like he's shielded from body contact playing KPD. Brown is the most injury prone player on our list (maybe X), and he's managed fine (touch wood) the last few games.
I reckon its worth a go, he'd be a weapon roaming around the ground and up forward. I dont get Simmo's reluctance, the team isn't working the way it is now, why not change something up? Gov's stated himself its his favourite role, most players play even better when they're in their preferred position. And if it doesnt work, just send him back, its not like he's going to lose all form and then thats it, he can't play defence anymore.
But how much do we rely on him down back? That's the main reason. We're talking a desperation move if we really need a spark in the center; he's our best asset in the back half by an absolute mile.
Not arguing we should never try, but it won't be a major feature of his game at least this season, imo.
