Glad we didn't roll the dice on Treloar. His injury history this year makes it too high risk - we don't want to start the game off a player down. He's a good player at his best but he's also missed a year of footy so not sure we would see anything close to peak Treloar, even if his body held up (which is a big if). We are favoured to win without him so the risk-reward ratio of playing him doesn't justify it.

If there’s the slightest doubt about Treloar then he shouldn’t play. The history of finals footy (and make no mistake this is our first final) tells us that you mustn’t go in with a player not fully fit. It usually backfires.

The only exception in my view would be Bontempelli who can play at 80% and still be among the best five on the ground.

Feels more like a $1.70 vs $2.20 kind of match to me.

I thought Sanders did ok in just over a quarter after he came on as sub. Got involved in the action, 6 hb 0 kicks but some reasonable pressure.

I think he’d be stiff to miss out. If any change at all I’d be making Arty sub and dropping McNeil, but I think no change at all is more likely. Maybe McNeil as sub.

With VDM out, we'd need at least one of McNeil or Arty starting I think.

Has barely played all year. Surely it’s conditioning only and too much of a risk in a cut throat game. Yes the real elim final will also be cut throat, there is no VFL this week I believe but maybe a game during the afl bye round? Maybe it’s to try and battle harden him at a lower level - we saw what happened when Harmes went down early v Lions and also when Adz had issues v Hawks. I say good call

Not sure where Fyfe plays unless they shift Young out of the midfield and put him across half back? Fyfe can only play inside mid, is a negative anywhere else at this point of his career. Don’t think he can run out a full game (or even 50% game time).

The coaches probably can’t trust that he won’t break down. Considering that’s what happened his first game back with the same injury earlier in the year.

They might want consecutive weeks in the 2’s before considering.

Yep and although Treloar might be able to cruise thru a VFL game and do very well, he wont be fully match fit after only 1 80% game in 3 months. VFL non-final is a couple of levels less intensity than an AFL elimination final against a decent team, which is what all our games from this point are.

The motivation factor is extreme for both teams. It is not like either team falls into the 8 with 16 wins required for Freo and 15 wins a huge percentage for us. To miss the 8 will be a wasted year more than ever.

Longmuir has more to throw at Freo being equal 4th and the footy world saying they miss out and not be respected. How much difference this makes I am not sure, but the heat will be on form the first bounce.

I am pretty certain Bevo will have our boys ready to meet the challenge.

Interesting but perhaps irrelevant fact is that all three players added to our extended bench may not be on our list next year. L Jones will retire or be delisted, other players have gone past Coffield and A Jones has fallen well down the wing/small forward pecking order after 4 games in the past two years.

Could not disagree more.

It would be a classic case of trying to cram someone in for the sake of it who is not match-hardened. This is a final for all intents and purposes and you can't afford to risk bringing in someone who won't be able to make the second and third efforts. This game will go down to the wire. 40 possessions was fantastic but you're playing vfl game against 13th in the last round and they had nothing to play for.
