I really think its no coincidence that the Constable 👮‍♂️was in the team when we were at our best. he gets in and dishes it out to TK, Danger, Duncan etc. We've missed that since he was dropped, and no one else does it.

darrenmorgan - spot on.
Getting first use and dishing it off effectively gets us going in the right direction
It also adds to our contested possession numbers which is our best indicator of success - win CP we win the game , lose CP we lose the game.
People who criticise Charlie for over use of handball should look at Cripps first 2 seasons - he started as a clearance machine who hand balled predominantly but has changed that over time as his experience and confidence has grown. He kicks and spreads a lot more now to have an all round game

Not saying he'll be as good as Cripps but Charlies game could very well develop along the same lines as he grows in confidence , experience and fitness.

Now expecting

In: Taylor, Dahlhaus, O’Connor,
Out: Henderson, Rohan, Clark

Would like to seek Narkle (for Atkins) and Stanley for Smith. But I doubt they’ll want to make too many changes in one go.
If Stanley doesn't come in for Smith this weekend then we may as well just give up...

Agree - and Parfitt who has had an ordinary year ( his last 6-7 games for the seniors have been beyond ordinary ) - and would have to be underdone - because he missed 2-3 weeks with a back injury - and only had the 1 game back with the VFL - surely in a must win game against a side playing strong physical football - in what looks to be pretty challenging conditions ( wet and a slog ) he shouldnt be under any consideration whatsoever
I know you love a good Parfitt bashing but we've looked better in the midfield with him in the team this year I think. Provided more than Joel plenty of times.

I know one of Constable's perceived strengths is clearances but it really feels like it's been oversold at times.

The following players are averaging more than Constable's 2.86 clearances this season:
- Kelly, Danger, J. Selwood, Parfitt, Guthrie, Stanley, Smith, Parfitt, Parsons & S. Selwood

The following are averaging more than Constable's 0.43 centre clearances:
- Kelly, Danger, Stanley, Smith, J. Selwood, Guthrie, Parfitt, Menegola, Atkins, S. Selwood & Parsons

Clearance work may be a strength of Constables, but it's not like he's shown something more than those currently in the team or also fighting for a spot.

What constitutes a clearance though - if Constable gets first hands and dishes it off to a player who kicks it forward , who gets the clearance?
If it's the player who kicks it forward then Constable may not get the clearance but he has clearly has an "assist"

Fairly sure in that scenario it would be Constable that is credited with the clearance.

I say that based on the opening seconds of the game against Hawthorn 3 weeks ago - Guthrie got first hands on the ball from the opening bounce and gave a little handball to Stanley, who kicked it inside 50. Stanley ended that game with 0 clearances on the stat sheet, so I can only assume the clearance went to Guthrie.

First disposal.
So Constable in those examples.

Parfitt in instead of one of Parsons/Narkle, and those are my changes too. There's certainly an argument that too many changes can mess with team cohesion, but we haven't exactly looked cohesive over the past 6 or so weeks anyway.

I want to see our best team on the park this week so we can settle the side and build that cohesion over the next 3 weeks in preparation for the finals.

I don't expect it to happen, mind you. I doubt we will make that many changes in one week and I expect a few players to be managed again.

Why?
Genuine question, not trying to be a smart arse.
Because he does a defensive job every week, which is what his role in the team is and has been for years and he does it as well as any of our defenders.

It's not his fault that the rest of the team are coached so defensively that guys like Tuohy and O'Connor, who should be providing run off HB and pushing up to the wing, are just cogs in our stagnant backline.

Don't hate on Bews because of the way we play, he's just playing his part.

Constable has played 7 games and it was 7 games straight

He doesn't need to do as well as others cos he is a kid and needs development.

We simply aren't winning a flag with the same crop as last season so go with youth and hope for the best.

Even if he doesn't win as many clearances his disposal is a lot cleaner than someone like Scooter.

His first month was very good, I find it hard to believe that he cant get back to that form.

From the AFL website stats glossary page

Clearance:
Credited to the player who has the first effective disposal in a chain that clears the stoppage area, or an ineffective kick or clanger kick that clears the stoppage area.

So if Constable got a handball out to a teammate, the clearance would be credited to him

Yes & no

Yes he played 7 games; No it wasn't 7 games straight

He played rounds 1 to 4
Had a rest for round 5
Returned for round 6
Dropped for round 7 & played VFL
Returned for rounds 8 & 9

Then dropped back to VFL

Clearly not 7 games straight

Any Truth to the rumours regarding Collingwood players and betting outside of Stephenson? Not sure I believe it but rumour mill suggests something is happening could be garbage also

It doesn't really matter who's in and who's out, as long as every player does his part.
We know what they can achieve when each player is following his script, putting in 110% effort and beating his immediate opponent.
Every player in the top 25 or so are capable of doing this.

Yeah - it was toss-of-the-coin regarding Parfitt and Narkle or Parsons.

I'm hoping we get towards the team we had just before the bye, so a fit Parfitt will take the Narkle/Parson spot in the next week or so.

Cheers Gents - I've learnt something today
