Have you actually been watching the last 3-4 games??? No way is Mackie getting dropped...

Thompson has made it clear that Blake is playing, and Mooney has to come back, so Playfair must get dropped. We can't afford to have that many slow talls in the side... plain and simple.

bit harsh on henry, i havent seen the game yet (fox footy wont reply it, when im home)
but 8 marks playing the lead up role from chf seems fairly good to me.
and why is blake suddenly a certain starter, surely with Otto and King, then Moons and Playfair to share ruck duties we dont blake.

H was fantastic in the game on the weekend, his link play was by far the best I've seen from a GFC CHF in a while. Mackie was good too, for a change. He still has a big problem of when he hears footsteps, disposal from there is quite average.

I would hate to see H go, he really played well and his tenacity was fantastic, the chasing of other opponents, (not his) was great to watch. I think it fuelled others to do the same. Big Otto even chased along the entire wing one time.

Mooney was terrible vs the Kanga's, would hate to see someone come in that has let the team down on 3 occasions by getting reported for someone who has deserved another run.

Wojak wasn't good on the weekend, but it was hard to play well when Hunt dominated the back half and is the prefered kicker, they always seem to look for him. So expect him to be dropped for Rooke if he is fit.

As for Mooney, I think KK probably deserves a run now as well, and hasn't been reported, which comes to a painful decision. Do we bring in another tall for a tall, or a small forward into a contributing unit from last week.

I would prefer Mooney come in for Bartel, Moons can play in the middle, in fact lead to the resurgence of the Cats last year from this position. The only problem will be him picking up the opposing C if he is fast.

They should give this option the go, who knows what will happen with Mooney in the middle ?? He is a good utility player anyway, can play down back or forward if required. Plus may put Burns starting on the park also, his pace was a good factor on the weekend.

So my thoughts on replacements are:

Wojak for Rooke (if fit)
Bartel for Mooney

Thompson stated that after that performance there is no way that he is dropping Blake. He has also been very happy with Mackie, so those two will stay. He seemed pretty keen to get Mooney back in, but at whose expense he didn't say. He also stated that if we have to go in tall against the Saints due to the players that are in form, then we will be doing that.

If Mooney returns he must play CHF. As unbelievably stupid as he has been for getting suspended twice in two games, he has been playing the best football of his career - exclusively at Centre Half Forward. No way will they play him anywhere else. If it means Playfair plays deeper or on a flank so be it. Mooney must play in the forward line.

They'll leave Blake in to allow Ottens to spend the whole game up forward. He's been marking extremely well, just need to get it to him more.

If playfair was to stay which I question than King and Blake should rotate off the bench.

I would play Mooney first 5-10 minutes on the ball before moving him to CHF. Play Mackie on the wing and have Chappy, Burns, and S.J up forward. Taking Chappy to the center when Mooney moves forward playing a structure like St Kilda. Their roles being:
Hamill = Mooney
Gerihg = Ottens
Riewalt = Playfair (except using playfair far less than Reiwalt is)

Then second quarter move Chappy forward and play Kelly in the center taking Stokes, SJ, or Burns off who ever is doing worst.

The key is how do we stop Riewalt. I would give Harley the job but have Hunt playing Lose in defence dropping in front of him and being quaterback.

I didn't actually say he was playing. I was giving an example of when an effective 3 bigman structure forward line + 2 ruckmen has been used. Some people have stated that having Mooney,Playfair, Ottens, King and Blake in the one teams seems too many talls.

I was pointing out that St Kilda (fully fit) plays that setup and does well.

Geelong coach Mark Thompson has said that Gary Ablett, Jarrad Rooke and Cameron Mooney will all be in line to play in this week's must-win game against St Kilda on Sunday at Telstra Dome.

"He (Ablett) improved again, even in the last couple of days. He's going to do some training tonight and really give himself a chance to play," Thompson said.

"They initially said two weeks and he's responded pretty well to the injury.

so looks like good news as sounds like they will be available for selection with them having some extra time to get right with the game not until sunday

Yeah remember Geelong v St Kilda last time Riewoldt started at CHB. It was a match losing move IMO. Lets hope Grant Thompson comes up with that bright idea again.

Scarlett towelled Gehrig last time. I think he got 1 kick and a goal or something rediculous. But has Gehrig ever played anywhere else other than full forward? Riewoldts work rate could possibly be a problem for Scarlett.

I think Milburn is a consideration on Riewoldt but I would expect he would move straight to full forward if that matchup was made.

Also in the mix is full-forward Kent Kingsley with Thompson giving his best indication yet that he's not been forgotten.

I say play him.

He has no future at GFC, but there are still two good reasons to put him in:

(1) We need to win and right now, he is the most likely to kick goals. McCarthy is a dud, N Ablett is getting there but probably needs one more preseason, Playfair is more of a CHF/ruckman than a FF, Lonergan is a defender, Grima needs a couple of years and Hawkins hasn't turned up yet (and will need a year or two to develop anyway) - leaves KK as the man most likely for now

(2) If he does get in and kick a few, it will do wonders for his trade value come the first week of October
