Some obvious outs this week

Ainsworth / ah chee to go out before hutch

Our Achilles heel for a number of years now has been leaking "dirty goals" to smalls, often as a result of everyone up marking and no one down

Tigers will be the ultimate test of that

Can hurn/shell/cole/Duggan play tight on smalls consistantly?

Ainsworth was a debuter in RD 1 but got injured late in preseason. He was keeping Masten out. So dont be surprised if Ainsworth is there this week.

Im putting my best 22 up which we should see soon. Based on the 4 small fwds pre injury like Simmo has said doesnt know how long we can play 3 tall fwds and 2 rucks for.

Hurn Barrass Shep
Cole Govs Jetta
Sheed Redden Gaff
Venables Darling Cripps
Ryan Kennedy Rioli

Nic Nat Shuey Yeo

Lycett(Ruck) Duggan(HB/mid) Ainsworth(mid) Lecras/Petruccelle(fwd)
Not sure why you've got Ainsworth in there - he shows a lot of promise but best 22 don't think so IMO.

If you look at the Tigers' defence, they regularly play four guys over 190cm in Rance, Astbury, Grimes and Broad. McIntosh also.

That doesn't mean we have to but you can play a bunch of tallish guys if they're mobile and read the play well.

They never have to match up on the Richmond forward line though ;)

We played two key defenders all through 2015, pretty much out of necessity, and made the GF. We went back to a taller backline in 2016/17, we've dropped back to just two this year and we're 7-1. I think the smaller defensive line seems to work for us, unfortunately for Schoey who is still a good stopper, and probably better suited to that role than Barrass at the moment.

Next week against Richmond, who are still playing a forward line that has Riewoldt surrounded by smalls, we definitely can't play all three talls. Maybe the following week against Hawthorn who have Roughy, Gunston and O'Brien down there we could experiment with it.

Was pretty much BOG against the Cats. Cant imagine Hutch/Ainsworth/Ah Chee having a game like that. He's straight back.

However, agree that his tackle numbers are too low though (<2 a game is nowhere near enough for the position he's been playing)
I don't think he's been BOG this year. He has been accumulating numbers with bad results on games early and then having much better second halves.

I forgot about Ainsworth though, he'll come in for Ainsworth.

Ins Sheed, Nic, Gov
Outs Hutch, Fraser, Schoey

Give Jets another week. Hutch was been woeful with his lead up kicks and has a lacks vision.

Dude he he was bog if not top 3 in thats game. Only Boots, Gaff and Yeo have had better or same impact as him in the games he's played him. Reddens found form recently but Sheed is so much better that the likes Hutching, Masten, Ah Chee and Ainsworth.

That question mark may well be Nelson? Or even...Cole

And yep Bubba will go back to EP, Hutchings will stay.

I still reckon he could be more than just a Mackenzie-style stopper. He's quick enough to rebound effectively, with decent skills. And he's versatile enough to play on medium-sized forwards if match-ups require. Or he could take one of the better key forwards, allowing McGovern to do what he does best, playing loose.

Yeah maybe.

I am surprised Shepherd keeps getting up for each match. He has looked beaten up all year with corks etc. Looked very sore at one stage yesterday as well. Wouldn't want to lose him though. He has been great this year.

Starting to think Shep may well be the most courageous player the eagles have ever had. Waters was tough, wouldnt flinch running backwards knowing traffic was coming, many other tough players over the years.

Shep goes headfirst into trouble time and time again. must pull up very sore after most games.

When he does go into those contests, the outcome overwhelming ends up in our favour, so I think he is quite smart how he goes about it.

You do realise guys, the entire Population of Australia (sans Richmond fans) is counting on you to wipe that shiteating grin of Jack Riewoldt’s dial, and to get Hardwick to point at another supporter in the crowd. No pressure, but don’t let us down.

K Thnx.

When we are done with them we are coming for you guys so you better start getting ready for us now. We might even take you guys out of a prem just like in 2006.

We are the Eagles, We have no friends in this game. We just go out and kick ass day in and day out.;)

Hutch is only a back up for Sheed.Sheed and redden are ahead of him.Ainsworth and Ah Chee are different players so they don’t go out for hutch.

One week at a time, one week at a time.

No, he wasn't.

He had a lot of the ball and butchered it a lot, then he got better as the game went on. Are you looking at stats or reading the AFL websites "best"?

Read the votes thread, he appears a lot as 1 or 2 votes, he wasn't BOG.

I don't think he's had a game as a clear BOG at all, not to say he hasn't played well. When Hutchings came in to replace him we lost very little.

I agree he's best 22, just not sure he's that clear a selection over Hutchings on form.

Out of interest 18 people in the votes thread (out of approximately 60 voters) didn't give Sheed any votes whatsoever.

Obviously he's better than Ainsworth though who I forgot about.

Have you read the opposition thread on the Richmond board (first time I have ever been there)?

Some heads need to be deflated.

In: NN, Gov, Sheed, Jetta
Out: McInnes, Schoey, Ainsworth, Nelson

Though I reckon one of Jetta/Sheed may miss again. Probably dont want four changes to a winning team. Interesting to see what happens with Ainsworth. Played well enough to hold his spot just on merit imo....and all the other debutants have been given at least two games to show their wares regardless of performance. May be a very harsh victim of circumstance this week.

Oh, we'll be boo-ing. To quote Chris Scott, "you wouldn't feel safe bringing your kids to the footy in Perth"
