At St Kilda, we are more realistic about where we are at and what our list is capable of. We don't pump ourselves up all pre season as premiership fancies after finishing 5th and then flop when the show has to hit broadway. You are aware that you're also stranded on one premiership right?

So you should, you are closer to the bottom, we have been there and are further advanced. There was nothing wrong with us believing we were flag fancies, the boys did enough to convince us, not only us but the media. Has the show flopped? Season is early, I'd say the first stanza wasn't what people were expecting, however a grand croscendo could still prevail.

Amon isn't a sub imo. Would rather see a guy like Mitchell or white and play Amon all game or none

Thought Amon played the sub role very well. Whilst I agree I want him to get a full game into him and I would like to see White play the sub role this week.

I am not sure which way we will go this week but I don't think we will be in for wholesale changes.

Those in the firing line could well be:

Probables

O'Shea - disappointing return and with the return of Bobby is definitely in the firing line.
White - could even be the sub this week
Mitchell - love his endeavor, and would love to see others have that same strength, but he is not damaging enough.

Possible

Westhoff - not having the season we had hoped for with the recruitment of Ryder but this man is an enigma and hopefully he is back to his best this weekend.
Amon - did a few nice things when he came on but may be sacrificed for a bigger bodied mid. Will get other chances this year.
Impey - has the pace to worry a lot of sides. We could possibly use him as a replacement for the Matty White role through the middle.

Amongst those to come in would be

Wines - a definite if fit
Carlile - as per Wines.

Neade - there are stats that show our forward line pressure is down and, at his best, this is what Jakey brings to the side. Is he there yet? Probably not but do we give him another try now?

Stewart - I like Stewy and he has been a model of consistency is the SANFL but can he lift his game at the next level? Unsure, as his last few games in the AFL have not inspired a lot of confidence.

Moore - bigger bodied mid that could help alleviate that inside ball responsibility from the likes of Boak/Hartlett and let them do what they do best - run, spread and then deliver to the forwards.

Clurey - has not come on like we would have expected but could he come into the backline and release Krak/Impey to play in the middle as a replacement for White?

Colquhoun - I am not sure he is back to his best at this stage. Does he provide what we need in the middle? Maybe in a few weeks time.

If you are still having trouble with accessing tickets I can send you through a barcode that will provide access to a Western Stand Guest Pass but they are in excess of $50 I believe.
Thanks, working on one option now with Boxx. Whatever happens I'll get back to you.

its been pretty quiet at Alberton this week so far, I like it - come out angry this week boys.

Where's your preview thread Noobz0r?

I'm expecting
IN: Wines, Carlile
OUT: O'Shea, White

However, it'll never happen but.............

If it was me selecting the team however there'd be some major changes, mainly to inject run and make our midfield as deep as possible. I'd be going:
IN: Wines, Carlile, Moore, Young, Neade
OUT: White, O'Shea, Amon, Krak, Impey

FF: Ryder, Schulz, Neade
HF: Monfries, Westhoff, Wingard
C: B Ebert, Gray, Hartlett
HB: Broadbent, Hombsch, Pittard
FB: Trengove, Carlile, Jonas
R: Lobbe, Wines, Boak
INT: Moore, Young, K Cornes
SUB: Mitchell

EMG: Krak, Amon, AhChee, White, O'Shea, Impey, Colquhoun, S Gray, Stewart

- For mine Krak is playing outstanding footy but his lack of fitness is alarming and hurting us massively. He needs to build up his tank in the SANFL or play as sub. Watching him leave holes in our zone against WCE and fail to feature at all in the last half the last 2 weeks has said to me that no matter how well he is playing we can't carry unfit players in our game style when we have already lost some run due to the inclusion of Ryder.
- Amon looked quite good, very servicable. Look forward to seeing more of him but right now we need an injection of energy in our forward half, Neade brings that. He is a beautiful ball user, very composed and brings great pressure to our forward half. We need him back and he is playing well for the Maggies.
- White adds a bit with his pace, but at the end of the day he is a fringe player whose form has started to dip. For me we will get more from Young playing that HFF role, Young will give more of a presence in the clearances and open up the possibility of more goals in a flooded forward half, than White will who relies on uncontested ball. Young is a HFF and not a main clearance mid and I'd hope we eventually realise this and give him a chance to run and link through a HFF role.
- Moore, there's polarising opinions on this guy but for mine he comes in immediately. He is a good developing player and way ahead of AhChee for class at the moment. Our midfield rotation depth at the moment is an issue and not only can he help that but he can add a desperately needed big body in there.
Mitchell to sub, and give us that injection of run that he can provide. Hopefully we finally bite the bullet and use the sub on Lobbe too and really inject the run we need late. We can't forget that Trengove in ruck can give us something late that Lobbe can't.
- From here I see Hartlett, Broadbent and Pittard as rotating back flanks
- I see us having an extremely deep midfield and possessing a large amount of rotations and an incredible amount of run.
- I also see plenty of potential for forward line to mid rotations with Gray, Wingard, Moore, Boak, Wines, Young and Moore.

Anyone who has a spare ticket for this and wants to sell it contact me via the Conversation tool and name a price. My cousin and his wife are down from Mt Gambier and we have access to one ticket but need another. It doesn't matter where, we'll go stand on the Hill. In saying this I'm told the game is a sell-out.

I have both of my Essential Power passes available for Sunday if you still need? PM me if so.

Thanks for the reply. At this stage I'm OK, with a couple of offers (thanks all). Now just waiting on my cousin to get back to me in case he's also found some.
I've gone back and edited my original post so as to not waste anyone else’s time. :thumbsu:

Good post although I don't agree with your view on Krak, I'll watch him more closely this weekend however.

For me, Moore is a shoe-in this weekend and think Kenny has been itching for him to come into the 22 for a long while now. By all reports had a cracking pre season but started the season with a niggle of some sort and then had his 3 week spell. Was BOG on the weekend, lock him in to replace Mitchell.

Wine and Carlisle are definite in's but how many is too many for 1 week? would've thought 3 is max? I'd like to see Neade around the mark, he had a great game against the Tiges in last years Final.

Drop Robbie Gray. We played well without him, against Hawthorn.

:p

totally agree, put him up for trade at the end of the year too haha!

Top 5 player in the AFL now.

Yeah if you watched him closely in the 2nd half against the Eagles, he could barely get up a jog at times to get back to position. It was really obvious on one occasion when most of the zone was in place and he was just jogging slowly through the zone, looking absolutely shot, to the backlines. They kicked it over him into the hole he hadn't filled and got a goal.

I absolutely love what the Krak is doing, but I feel like right now his fitness is hurting us and I'm sure this is being reflected in the GPS data and reviews the coaches would be seeing.

If this is the case, it would be disappointing for me.. before his debut this year, the club was holding the line of 'his fitness isn't up to AFL standard just yet' and then he played his first game a week or two later.

Big omission this week....wow

One big change I'd be considering at least is Lobbe out. He was a non-event last week and Ryder is playing very well. Go back to Trengove and Hoff supporting in the ruck. Is the easiest way to get some run back.

This was obviously Ken's (simpleton in my view) plan last week bringing in O'Shea and Amon especially. Dropping Young and Ah Chee though was stupid (I thought Young was close to BOG at half-time vs WC). It left us with a midfield of:

Boak, Ebert, White, Gray, Cornes, Hartlett, Broadbent, Mitchell and Amon.

Of those Gray and maybe Boak are the only real ball winners with every other midfielder being a receiver/carrier. That is a ridiculously unbalanced unit, especially against a strong Lions midfield in a game which was forecast to be wet! It beggars belief really.

Many have noted Hinkley's stubbornness including myself, last year in particular when he refused to replace our injured KPDs. Also his mantra of "everyone has to be able to win their own ball" is fine but there are limits on that. White and Mitchell for example may have improved on it and be competent but it's never going to be a strength of theirs and it's dumb to think you can match a team of runners vs opposition teams with a number of true midfield bulls. If you don't win your fair share of ball to start with, the make-up of the rest of your team is irrelevant.

Bringing in Young and Ah Chee in round 3 was the catalyst for our mini form revival and gave some semblance of balance to the mids. Then, he goes and reverses it based on I assume, some random observation of Young in the WC game (did he not hit his GPS numbers for offensive spread or some crap?). Can't believe he subbed out the one guy who was in bollocking, getting his hands and knees dirty in packs and showing real intensity. Then low and behold, we win zero of our own ball for the last qtr and a half and as a result lose the game. Almost unanimous here on Ah Chee being dropped so won't go into that but once again, he's been hitting in with intent and should have been the last one dropped.

Having said all that, the main issue with us is pretty much what Hinkley has said. We are not working hard enough and competing with anywhere near enough intensity. Was the one thing I was worried about at the beginning of the year, more so as a result of mental fatigue after the last couple of years, but seems it's happening due to big-headedness and laziness tbh. This is the main problem but selections, especially a lack of ball winning mids to give us more possession to then be able to work into form in the first place, isn't helping.

I'd argue that if Moore hadn't been suspended, he'd have been straight in for Wines and, pending form, would have played 4 games in a row. What awful timing for him.

thats the story of his life at the PAFC.. I hope for his sake, he takes his next opportunity and runs with it.. would hate for another club to take advantage of all the work we have put into him.

Absolutely. I'd be very surprised if he's not at least in the 25 this week, even with Wines returning.

Have to agree i hate it when players and coaches are in front of cameras all the time. The biggest need is to concentrate on the job in hand and these guys so far are well behind the eight ball.
