What's hilarious is that last week Clurey was panicky, fumbly, cost us multiple goals and his kicks kept hitting targets on the bounce and putting us under pressure and there was little negativity about his performance.

1 week later a similar kid comes in, has 20 touches, has a few nervous moments early but from then on exhibits the sort of composure under pressure that was absent amongst the entire leadership group. This kid then proceeds to cop nothing but negativity from what was ultimately a stunning return from a ACL injury that only happened 1 year and probably 3-4 weeks ago.

Baffling.

Colquhoun would not have been my first choice, but he was good and certainly earned selection again this week.

Stewart who appeared to not even know a football game was going on should be our first out. S Gray not far behind. Clurey then has to be gone. And if we could afford it I'd love to give Boak a rocket after the worst performance in his career.

Yes I suppose we may be a little harsh on the fringe players , but there is legitimate concern over whom is being promoted , its supposed to be based on form , and many believe it hasn't been , including myself. Our real concern/anger should , as posters have already pointed out , be directed at players the ilk of Jonas , Hartlet , Boack , Pittard etc., normally regular team selections that have all to often , or all season so far let us down.

1) Will Ken Have the balls to drop Stewart, S Gray & Young all in the same week?
2) Can Lobbe take a mark?
3) Will Boak shirk another contest?
4) Can Westoff/Jonas absorb some body contact and keep their feet in a contest?
5) Will Ken keep the chains on Gus by insisting he continues to play an ultra-defensive fwd role?
6) Will the selectors finally admit they were wrong by at least selecting one more big bodied mid to help out Ollie?
7) Can we go one better and kick the ball out of bounds on the full 10 times this week?
8) Will we announce to the footy world that the Lions result wasn't just A bad day, and we really are a mediocre team?
9) Can Hammer rediscover the form we all know he is capable of?
10) Is 'Never giving in' just another meaningless B.S slogan?

Have to agree with you Janus. It is laughable how stubborn our coaches are and jus utterly pathetic. Pick our BEST 22, it's simple.

Look, I like Fridge (O'Shea) but under no circumstances should he be in the team before Moore or Ah Chee.

Sam Gray just needs to go. If the coaches can't see it, and S Gray somehow manages to read this post, do Port Adelaide a big favour and retire (take one for the team).

Also Paul Stewart was decent AFL player 3 years ago when our overall list was a joke, but now he provides nothing.

What is clear is that KEN, and the players, have been allowing other teams to dictate the terms of play. I don't buy into the 'they've worked you out' theory because that is just too simplistic and doesn't show Ken and his staff enough respect. To that point, our game style in 2013 and 2014 was pretty basic and driven by hard running players that happened to be faster than average and players that were confident enough to take a risk.

To state the bleeding obvious, because a large portion of our team is down on confidence, our previous style of play simply isn't working. Our backline is holding up incredibly well but isn't the attacking backline we've previously had and the way Ken played as a player.

Carlisle - a run and punch defender.
Jonas - previously a key component to our backline run, is now a run and punch defender and grossly down on confidence.
Impey - complemented our backline in 2014 with explosive speed (great game on weekend) but is largely a lock down player in 2015.
Hombsch - Likes to attack but is largely a lock down player in 2015 (in AA form in 2015).

Jasper Pittard is a barometer of where we are at. Whilst I love him as a player, he has a crack at all costs, he is being let down by our forwards and is being forced to bomb the ball. His indecision is also a product of our forward movement.

Walsh is also turning out to be a big loss ...

Agree with the above. Our number one plan was to pressure thw other team at all times and then go the ao called gun and run. Not sure we're doing part 1 that well this year.

Yeah Walsh looks to be a big loss but so too does Richardson, and one could argue that Richardson was a bigger loss. Is anyone doing their role this year or has Hinkley been put in that Chokoesque situation where he has to do than the big picture coaching/mentoring stuff?

presumably supporters are split 50/50 on this but I would like to see Aaron Young stay in the side to get some confidence.

swapping and changing players all the time doesn't do anyone any good and reminds me of Phil Hughes (RIP) in the test team where he would usually only get minimal chances to establish himself.

I realise that we can't carry an out of form player but I do see Young as someone with a good future in the AFL and we should persist with him at the top level.

This is a forward thinking team, and may well be the team we have at the start of next season (Patrick Ryder will be there of course, pending WADA decisions. Ditto Monfries). But not now.
If we make 5 changes, along with the inclusions of other youngsters already there, we will lose this game against Carlton.
We have to hold our nerve with some of these more experienced players who aren't performing and struggle through to the season break, hopefully to regroup and freshen up.
We must finish 6-6 at the break.

Making the 8 is important for team development and supporter morale, and being 6-6 will provide us with the opportunity.

I hold the belief that we have the tools to make it at least to the final 8, supported by the observation that we are playing absolutely junk football and still only losing by 3-4 goals.

Yep, because it's not like we don't have anyone else who could perform his role after he's already been dropped this year.

As I said to Ford, I'm expecting it to happen. Then I'm expecting Carr to get on radio and to bumble his way through an explanation as to why Hinkley and Voss have decided that we need yet another shit defender playing on the wing to generate more run.

I'm starting to think Walsh leaving actually spooked Hinkley into changing his gameplan into some pure slingshot shit instead of the simple run and gun/take on the opposition gameplan we had last year. He's tried to prove that he's some sort of master tactician when the reality is football is ****ing simple to play.

Clurey has been better than O'Shea ALL YEAR. This drop Lobbe thread kind of makes me laugh, yes I understand he has been poor but in the same time we would like to see an EXTENDED period where we play 2 ruckmen. We have had such a small sample of what it looks like. It will take time but I believe they will eventually click.
I look forward to seeing Moore, Arch, Amon and Neade IN asap.

I was chatting to a fairly astute bloke from cane toad country last night, and we both agreed that apart from things like some of the fairly baffling selections, that something has happened to the chemistry of the team, ie there is no spark, no attempt to run hard, spread, and take the opposition on.
We have both been around for long enough to know those observations are not based on rocket science, or Einstein's theory of relativity ( geez I hope it was Einstein ).

Team balance can be absolutely farked by poor selections, the wrong match up, players in the wrong position on the ground etc, etc, and when any Port Adelaide team gets 16 points behind against a mid table mob on our own dung hill with a qtr to play, and you get the feeling it's already game over, then something has to be rotten in the state of Denmark.

It has been said multiple times before but 53 inside 50's for only 14 scoring shots is an absolutely disgraceful return, fri night was similar to the tigger's game, ie the opposition let us dick around with the ball in and near the forward 50 and then regularly scored goals on the rebound.

Anyway back to the changes, I believe Ryder has already been ruled out until after the bye, and Jacko may also be in that category.

Trying to turn TJ into a ball distributor instead of a hardnosed stopper defies logic, his disposal is snafl standard at best.

I would like to see either Harvs ( or Butch ) get a gig to stretch the blue bagger's defence, but we probably all have more chance of winning cross lotto than that happening this week.

Stewart, Gray, Young and Clurey just haven't made the most of their opportunities. There are better options running around in the
SANFL than those guys. Replace those 4 with Moore, Ahchee, Mitchell and Oshea/(Trengove if fit) and we are a better side on paper. But reality is we need our guns firing to win games.
