i don get this, Matt White hasnt played a good game in 2 years, the biggest worry with collingwood is thier midfield who have the potential to rack up big numbers, if they are racking up big numbers and controlling the ball then we are in real trouble.

They racked up big numbers last year against us and we still flogged them.

Obviously they were going to play Pittard on the wing, but with Broady out they'll put Pittard back and White on the wing

White for Polec
Pittard for Broadbent

Still think it should have been someone other than White.

No one is revising anything. I said if Amon or Monfries weren't injured, they'd be in before White. Who would you rather bring in?

Ah Chee is a big bodied midfielder who throws off team balance because he can't really play any other position.

Atley is an inside mid who can push forward - not the role we are looking to replace.....

Couldn't Boak play wing and Atley replace Boak at half forward / mid?

Our selections this year are clearly based on players who best fit specific roles within the framework of our 2017 game plan. Form and SANFL performances are secondary to this, thats why Matt White comes in this week with Polec and now Broady out.

With Polec being out Pittard took his winger role, with Broady out Pittard moves to half back and White takes the wing.

I don't mind this selection policy, theres no point bringing in another inside midfielder and then being slow on the outside. It also keeps our game plan consistent week to week and in theory we should get better and better at executing that game plan.

I reckon Matt White suits our game plan more than most due to his speed, tackling, pressure and line breaking ability. He seems like one of Kens favourites and if he plays well this week I reckon he'll keep getting picked.

I don't like the selection policy, preferring to play the occasional youngster as preparation for the future, but otherwise I very much agree with your first three paragraphs.

Where I strongly disagree is your contention that White is a good selection. From what I have seen, and many who go to Magpie games are saying, is that he is not fast anymore other than a very short sprint, has never been good at defensive pressure, and nowadays has limited attacking power.

Ken is playing safe and timid. He is a world away from Clarkson in adaptability.

I think we carry one too many with Broady and HArtlett. On form Hartlett should be out, obviously injury dictated Broadbent.

However White has no form and I'd rather a fast Bonner, or Johnson stink it up out of position that Matt White.

Now I’m thinking that you must work near me. I've been saying this all morning to those that care to listen. You must have been one of those that overheard me!

Not one team can say that they are favourites to win it this year. Every team has had their great game and their poor game within a relatively small game spread.

Exactly - there is a chance we can finish 2nd - this week against Collingwood is a MUST WIN. Kenny knows it and is taking no chances on untried players.

Absolutely, but we need to start playing the footy we were playing prior to the Essendon game again. The last two weeks haven't been good and we've got a tricky 3 week period. A lot of us are justifiably nervous.

There is absolutely no reason one of Bonner/Atley/Drew/Palmer/Johnson couldn't have come in and played a similar role to White with some decent SANFL form backing them up.

There is absolutely no reason why we couldn't have brought in Eddy or Howard, moved Trengove to defence, and shuffled Pittard or Hartlett up to the wing given that all 3 of Hombsch, Clurey and Jonas can play smaller (and Hartlett desperately needs a change of some sort)

There was absolutely no reason to bring in White based on form from a full 2 years ago, and completely ignoring his SANFL form. It sends a terrible message to both the AFL regulars and the SANFL regulars regarding the importance of form and hard work in getting picked.

I can only assume the league is implementing the old VFA 'throw-pass' rule for one round only.

Mate, we're playing White, Impey, S. Gray and Neade in our 22 right now. We're not even a remotely realistic chance for the flag.

In this extremely even season sitting top 4 means we most definitely are. But don't let facts get in the way of your hate of short players.

That doesn't excuse White being selected when there are at least 6 players more worthy and suitable for selection at this point in time.

Drew is young and up and coming and has been doing the right things in the SANFL to get selected.

However White has also been picked ahead of Eddy, Atley, Howard, Palmer and Bonner, all of whom could fit into the side without damaging the system at all.

Of those you mention Bonner is the only one I believe would be a winger, and unless he has dramatically improved his disposal since preseason I understand why he hasn't been picked. AJ and Krak I would also give a go there but alas they have been hampered by injury. I could certainly see Palmer coming in for a Young or a Boak but given we won by 40 points that was never going to happen
