I’d replace S. Gray with Impey. Impey provides a point of difference both in the forward lines, and in short bursts in the midfield. Also, I know it’s fraught with danger to look a week ahead, but I see him as our best option to play as a defensive forward on Laird.

Impey offers excellent forward pressure, but if we want somebody to play a lockdown role on a halfback then it's Gus Monfries every day of the week.

Impey in the best for the maggies last week?

PORTADELAIDEFC.COM.AU'S best
Ladhams, Snelling, Drew, Bonner, Reynolds, Ah Chee, Impey
How did Palmer go? Rather him leading from the forward line then having Sam Gray trying to win an air ball. Not saying Gray was bad.

Think we will see Monfries come in, for who? I have no bloody idea.

Was impressed with Gray's preseason & his second efforts against the Swans but unfortunately he still makes terrible decisions with the majority of his kicks frustratingly going to the opposition uncontested similar to last year.

Hearing Impey went well for the Maggies i'd be leaning towards bringing him in for Gray just based on pace wise he's superior & the damage he could do both defensively (tackles really hard) & offensively (metres gained).

Just feel like he fits the role we're trying to fit Sam into better as he has the ability to get on the end of a goal or two, like Amon Jars needs to work on getting more ball but him & SPP linking up together could be brilliant.

With no real lock down role needed imo for Freo (that will suit Monfries)

You ask yourself who is more of a concern (looking at Fremantle's back 6) for Ross Lyon, Sam Gray or Jarman Impey

To me the answer is Impey, so thats the only change

Would perhaps be good to see Monf get a run before the showdown, probably at the expense of S.Gray.

If HH cops a week.. Krak for mine.

But yeah, I'll leave it to the experts. Geez it's nice to have a bit of depth tho.

Walking the MRP tightrope: Your club's players with a bad record

Harlett, who was fined $1000 during the JLT Community Series for striking Jarryd Roughead, was charged on Monday for a near identical offence, this time on Sydney's Jordan Foote.

He has been offered a $1500 fine for a second strike and will suspended for one match if he commits another low-level offence this season.

The thing that will make selection interesting this week is the SANFL not playing. There are players that missed out on selection at the weekend who could come into consideration for the Freo clash simply because they may be needed the week after.

Players like Austin, Impey, Krak, White, Palmer and Monfries are in that category. We may well need them for match up purposes or injury (heaven forbid) and heading into a Showdown with, at most, 2 games in 5 weeks may be considered less than ideal.

In a perfect world you would reward those that played as a team on Saturday but I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two.

This is true in a sense, but in the back half of last year our smaller backline started to show that poise and was far better than the tall backline we'd played previously.

On Dan he just doesn't test the opposition like Pittard does. He isn't as explosive or line breaking as Pittard. Dan is looking the goods as a solid defender, but Pittard is looking like a likely AA. I know who I'm picking first.

Yeah, I am not sure who else can match up on Walters from last weeks team. Possibly DBJ.

The problem with Impey is that he got suspended by the club for a fairy moronic indiscretion so dropping Sammy and bringing him back in would send all sorts of wrong messages. I like Impey and think he's best 22 but like others have said, he should earn his spot back.

In saying that, I wouldn't exactly mind if S. Gray was dropped for someone like Atley because against the Hills and Fyfe we will need a bit of run. Pittard if fit should come in for the Showdown (also gives Houston another week). From a purely structural point of view, dropping Eddy would be downright stupid.

Westhoff is really starting to bug me in this "utility" role.

He either needs to play forward and demand a tall go with him that he can out run etc. Or move behind the ball at the end of each quarter or whatever..

Running around like a dog off a leash really is of no benefit. It's not like he racks up 20+ or has any hurt factor there. The idea sounds sexy of a 6' 7" wingman, but reality is a different story.

Second/third tall forward who goes down back to give the stonewall extra height when required is the way to go.

So many times we went long to an isolated Sam Gray and it just seemed odd, especially with Hoff playing peripherally loose.

There are no obvious changes, leave the team unchanged.

A key component to a successful year will be the guys in the SANFL putting pressure on the senior team.

His best spot is loose man defence.

He seems to read the play well and has a decent mark. He also tries to create from there to some effect.
