No im talking about him taking a mark, moving enough to create some space between him and the man on the mark and quickly kicking it. None of this "go back far enough to have a run up" and throwing it blindly on the boot. He should be blindly throwing it onto his boot as quick as he can.

He also needs to confidently kick through the ball with purpose. His approach and execution reflects a player who expects to miss. No good for the scoreboard or team morale.

What we needed was our leaders and experienced players standing up in the key moments dragging our fringe players across the line with them. And switching on the brains a bit more, we reverted to dumb footy in the closing stages but it's hard to single them out because it was a collective effort. What part of Westhoff's performance last Thursday was 'pretty solid?' What part of shanking every set shot for goal you take, and mucking up every kick under the slightest bit of pressure, is 'pretty solid?'

And for that matter, since when did 'pretty solid' become the ****ing bar we are trying to aim for here?

So to survive in Port Adelaide's AFL team, you just have to not be 'out and out putrid'? That sounds like a right path to success, that does. I can just see such a strategy leading us to the ultimate glory. Okay fellas, just try not to absolutely ****ing suck out there, and you're guaranteed your spot in the team for the next ten weeks.

This idea that 'oh we nearly beat Geelong so no need to change the team' is absolute cancer. It's Richmond-tier thinking. It's loser talk. It cements the idea that near enough is good enough. It is the absolute antithesis of striving to be better, to get better, to continually improve no matter the circumstances. It is absolutely not Port Adelaide.

Why should have won. The effort of the team was amazing. I'm sure some players are on notice, but consistency in side will eventually (sooner rather than later) allow us to win those close games.

A 10 goal pumping would have been a different story.

Win the next three and strong belied will come from this group.

Watching Eddy at the Maggies, he has certainly improved the defensive side of his game. What I like the most is his confidence in taking a shot from pretty much anywhere and generally nailing them. There's no one in our side that i'm confident can kick a clutch goal. Used to be Wingard but even he has missed gimme's this year.

It's not even all about that either.

It's about representation and pride. I mean imagine being SPP and watching a leader of your club (Westhoff) just absolutely sh** himself when it's his turn to step up. It's embarrassing. The fear is all there to see which sends all kinds of negative messages through the team and culture of the club. And then he gets picked time and time again like he is a shining example of what the club expects when you take the field. Disgusting.

The more I think about it the more ropable I become. You can see where this losing culture comes from and it ain't from your bottom tier players or youth.

The melts are not due to the individual decision this week. Sure, after a decent effort against Geelong, to only go down by a couple of points, you'd probably give the same group a chance to redeem themselves. The issue is that this has been a pattern for the last 3 years. You have to change something eventually. Realistically what will happen is we will beat Hawthorn, Ken will be redeemed, we'll play poorly against Essendon but scrape through and then we'll lose again after that, but Ken will give the group a chance to redeem itself and the pattern will repeat.

I just want Ken to break the cycle before it's too late.

Yep Westhoff was never in any danger at selection. He was good last week, he just didn't convert.

We need to fix that up, that's what the focus should be. Had he kicked all his shots he was probably close to BOG, following the GC game where I think I gave him 5 votes as BOG.

I think some may be over rating the close loss against geebung.

They are nowhere near the bench mark team they used to be, and it wouldn't surprise me that greatly if the tingles stitch them up on their own dung hill on Friday night, and won't Adelaide be a wonderful place to live if that happens, and we lose.

Re no changes for tomorrow night, to me it's about putting your best balanced team on the park, and my opinion is that with a virtually injury free list a more astute coach than Kern could select a much better balanced team.
