This is the problem with coaching your mates, you cant/wont see what the whole world can. Cox has been a huge disappointment as midfield coach and should be in the gun at the end of the year. Champion player but his comments here are right at the root of west coasts problems. Need to get some coaches who can look at current performance rather than "runs on the board"

Seriously if the guys can't train get them out of the squad until they can, then make them earn selection. Until this happens 9th is a good result...

How has he been a huge disappointment coaching the midfield? The whole year we have had no ruckman, and in case you have not been watching for a while we have one of the poorest midfield groups in the AFL. What did you think he would do with the group?
I know it is easy to blame the coaches and it is the nature of the game but the players are the issue not the coaches.

The players are in the team because they're being put there by coaches who value performances from 2+ years ago instead of current output. It's as much the coaches fault as anyones.

It's an absolute cop out to put Priddis out with a quad injury rather than say he's omitted, and you all know it
Why? If the club were to be really vocal as to why certain team selection decisions had been made it would inevitably fuel more speculation and media attention, especially if that player was approaching retirement (as is the case here). Ultimately, such attention is at best a distraction for the club and player, and at worst, can snowball into a scandal (See: Jimmy Bartel and Geelong).

So long as club is being really honest with the playing group, i.e. all players are made aware that whoever you are, you will be dropped if you fail to perform, then the club pursuing this strategy is perfectly fine in my opinion. The club obviously has other means of communicating with players apart from the official team selection announcement, which are really just addressing us fans (the same can be said about naming young up and coming players on the extended bench in order to show them how close they are to selection. They already know how close they are, the coaches tell them). If the club sees this strategy as a means of avoiding the media over analysing decisions and causing unproductive speculation then I don't really mind. You get all of the advantages of dropping the player whilst mitigating the potential negatives, although i understand calls for greater transparency.

Disappointed with Jetta out hes been in pretty good form!
Glad Parto gets his chance :)
Would have liked Karpany named on the forward line and LeCras omitted but Simmo would never do this because its admitting that David King was correct!!
Kingy really screwed us Karpany fans :'(

I'll have to wait another week for my signature to finally come true :rainbow:

I can't think of any coach in the AFL who would not of had Priddis and Lecras in the Eagles best 22 for season 2017.
And I was referring to Cox in general who I don't believe walks in to the MC and says here is the midfield I am playing pick a side around them from the rest.

Alastair clarson is one definite.

Didn't expect to see all the whinging about Priddis being listed out sore rather than omitted.

The truth is his drop in output is no doubt related to the fact that his body doesn't allow him to do what it used to, so I have no problem with them saying it's a quad or whatever. The alternative is to believe that his gait, defensive pressure etc. being down by his own standards are caused by lack of willpower which is something nobody has ever accused him of.

My view is that these niggles preventing him getting up for games suggest the end will come sooner rather than later. Much sooner than if he was just dropped for a bad patch of form.

it gets back to drafting - we have been dumb. Our best mid of the past few years was a rookie pick

If you can't kick, you won't be part of our future. That was the blunt message delivered by Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson last night after his players committed a host of sins by foot against the Bulldogs.

"Along the way we need to find some kids who can execute by foot and in terms of their decision-making, a lot better than they did today," Clarkson said.

"That was the difference in the game . . . one team used the ball better than the other."

The Hawks had 39 ineffective kicks to the Dogs' 25 and Clarkson said the club would no longer recruit players with questions over their disposal.

"In the first quarter when we were up and going and having a chance to win the game . . . I think nearly every one of the Western Bulldogs' goals in the first quarter was a result of Hawthorn turnovers," Clarkson said. "Some of that can change by good coaching. Some of that will only change by changes to the list come the end of the year."

Clarkson said the Hawks would follow the Bulldogs' lead and target only players with ability to deliver cleanly.

"For a team that's won five games, they're the third or fourth highest scoring team in the competition. They make you pay.

"They make you pay because their recruiting over the years has had it as an absolute pre-requisite that if you play the game at the top level, you've got to be able to kick.

"I reckon that will be our pre-requisite in the drafts ahead.

"The Western Bulldogs are three or four years into a program with Giansiracusa, Murphys, McMahons and those kids. We're six months into it. We're going to make plenty of mistakes and we're going to have more savage losses than we had today."

Clarkson said his players stopped being daring and lost their "free spirit" after seeing the ramifications of a string of errors in the first term.

I agree with all of that and have mentioned the same thing many times, my point was if Clarkson had this list. Of course he would not of recruited half of them but thats not what I was saying.
If he had our list in the shape its in then Priddis and Lecras would be in the team. He would get rid of half the team at the end of the year though.

The thing that is funny to me is how many AFL coaches and recruiting departments keep recruiting players who can't kick at elite levels. It is absolutuely staggering how poorly skilled AFL players are.

So I hear we are playing a Judd/Voss/Buckley/Hird/Dangerfiel/Ablett clone in this new super jet Parto or something.
Paddington, Partridge.........Partington I think it is.
Looks like we just might make the final after all.
Geez we may take the whole thing out now he is playing.

Just hope he can handle the pressure that comes with being the competitions best mid.

Too much???

No-one has been saying these things at all. The problem is the apparent favouritism of out of form senior players than anything else.
So yeah, hyperbole.
