Logan, Butcher and Shaw come in.

Any three of them should be dropped.

Young isn't the ****in sub again.

If ken is dumb enough to throw away 8 points in heavy training more than 8 players in rotation, with a bye, he won't be smart enough to do the obvious, and play his players properly.

It will be dry. Is Logan the right player?

I dunno, but he is 50 times the player plod Mitchell is.

I don't think we can risk playing both butcher and shaw. I'd play Shaw.

I was out tonight, didn't see the game.

Come home, know we lost.

I've just started the 4th quarter only.

Boak just kicked a goal we have all the momentum and are 2 points down.

There is no way we will lose this.

Next forward thrust, um, where are our forwards? Are you kidding me, you are playing Wingard and Schultz 70 metres from goal and we have no one, NO one in the f50.

With all the momentum?

W. T. F?

Ken, have you become an idiot?

My 12 year old daughter can tell you that's just stupid.

Ken, you got exposed for playing plodders like Mitchell, space ckoggers, vs Sydney.

You made the most bizarre selections vs Adelaide with Mitchell and Sam gray and pushed Shultz up like a reiwolt v Adelaide and the empty forward line failed us......as it did against north, as it dud against Sydney, as it dud against Adelaide.

Ken, we know you're a brilliant coach and all that, but are you an idiot?

Lets make this really clear.

When you have momentum like this, you play your all Australian small forward, in goals.

And you play your 40 goal 6, Coleman medal leading talk forward, in a wet night, in the effing goal square okay.

You wanna experiment fine, but do that in pre season

this 10th minute ive just witnessed us beyond bizarre.

W.T.F?

Selections irrelevant if ken plays no forwards when you have momentum now.

Ken cost 12 points this season now
And got us 44 pts. What exactly was your point.

I posted this earlier as well, but you think Ken is immune to critism? No one is. We want to improve. Spider-Man post was valid, Ken is responsible for some poor decisions.

Let's also put this loss in perspective.
We have lost two of our key defenders and kicked crappily at goal tonight.
I really don't believe that we are on a downward trajectory but hopefully learning some lessons from more experienced teams.
All the thinly veiled swipes at Ken and the selection committee is unnecessary and far to premature.
With the two experienced defenders out..we need to be really careful about completely unsettling our lineup.

Professional sport is unforgiving my friend.

Do you want to win premierships?

Honestly don't think selections killed us. 18 behinds would have sunk us even if we did play taller or play Newton or whoever else.

I think you will find that around 7 of those points were rushed. But the broader question is where were our forward entries going? Out wide because we lacked targets and their talls were sweating of the deep central entries. Made it way too easy for them to defend. That is where selection killed us.

Young did more in 20 odd minutes of game time tonight than Mitchell has done in 2 weeks. He must have pictures of Ken doing something lewd if he stays in the team. I am close to replacing Mitchell with the good old inanimate carbon rod at this stage.

I know we have some Pittard lovers in here, but honestly, for every good thing he does, he negates it with some utter arse. Tonight was giveth and taketh away time after time. I just don't know what can be done with him. Can't drop him but Christ on a bike is he a worry.

Sure, if Butcher was a reliable lead up forward (which is the one thing he isn't at the moment) and Shaw was AFL ready. Who should we have selected?

It aint over mate. Yes, Hawthorn lost...so did we.
Is Hawthorn a write off and no chance of a premiership?

Absolutely correct. I'm not giving up on a top two position yet either. what was our win/ loss this time last year?

I've now watched the second half.

Pittard turned it over 9 times.

How was Jekyll hydes first half?

Ohhhh this is such good point.

The thing with Key Position Players is they're Key. Position. Players. They're called that because they hold the structure and framework of a football side together. They affect ball movement, they affect decision making, they affect all sorts of things without actually touching the pill directly.

The reasoning I've read - "but their talls didn't dominate" is misguided and folly.

This game was lost on the selection table. You cant take out two Key Postions and not replace them with similar players and expect to play the same way. It is that simple.

He doesn't have to be Nick Riewoldt, he just has to provide a contest so we can steer the ball in a direction that's favourable to us.

Too often it just bounced back out because the guys who should be crumbing had to fly for marks so we had some competition in the air. Down the other end Carlisle, Hurley and Daniher weren't world beaters, but they were getting their smalls involved and it was working on the scoreboard.

Everyone else on the ground was chipping the ball around until we turned it over.

Pittard (and O'Shea, a little bit) were the only ones willing to take the game on a bit to get through the press that Essendon were strangling us with.

You beat a press like that in the wet by running 20 and kicking 50. Pittard was the only one who was willing to do it consistently. Our other defenders turned the ball over with dainty little kicks and short passes that were dropped because of the conditions. Pittard was playing wet weather football and kept us in the game.

Every time he got the ball he ran...straight at, into and sometimes back out, and then back into trouble. It was just scary to watch every time he got it. He also seemed to be trying to kick it too hard. Turn over machine tonight.

OUT: Monfries (Needs to have a rocket put up him), Cassisi, Mitchell (Permanently. I like him, he tries his guts out and seems like a great character around the club, but he simply isn't good enough for AFL football. I'd keep him on the rookie list next year as a 'break glass in case of emergency' type player and let him tear up in the SANFL.)
IN: Newton, Clurey, Butcher/Shaw (**** it, put Brett Ebert on stilts and give him a run around. I just want another KPF!)

Forget about making Wingard sub. He's been woeful the last few weeks to the point of almost looking like he's simply trying add to his own personal highlight reel. Instead of giving him less to do by making him sub before coming on and dominating against tiring opponents, take him out of his comfort zone and throw him into the middle for the majority of the game. Make him get back to earning some hard ball himself and make him run himself to exhaustion, even if that sees him spewing up on the sideline. Ken gave Polec some tough love when he arrived for preseason, time to give Chad some of that treatment now. No more coasting. Ride him hard.

who cares who they bring in play like tonight again be prepared to lose again

Pittard went long down the middle which is what we needed more of. He gained 110m before any turn overs..our other backman lost the ball in our defensive 50...ken lost us the game by pushing everyone too much into defence, when we got the odd fast break there was no one to kick too. eesendon didnt do this and left men forward..you need at least one man staying forward for the fast break out of defence.

Yeh, Chad has been woeful last two weeks. Just seemed to want to fly for every mark, mostly one handed, and actually contested against Schulz a couple of times. He was then quite fumbly (not alone) when he did get it at ground level. Not at the races recently.

i agree chad to the middle and get your hands on the ball...

Key issue I noticed was our players just... kicking it to no-one or to contests we were continuously losing due to our lack of height. Oh also, we're awful in the rain. That definitely needs to be addressed during training.
Anyway, bit of a circlejerk/echo chamber around here but I'd really like to see Shaw or Butcher have a bit of a run next week.
