I rang the club this morning to see if they were selling any through the Port Store and was told we are wearing it two more times this year. I would have thought only Geelong game.
We have a Frday night at AO and back that up with a Thursday night home games 6 days apart so one of those will probably be broadcast into China maybe delayed rather than live as China is on Perth time. Pretty sure its Richmond followed by the Hawks

I come in peace again. I love cryptic clues so having a punt on what your announcement could be.

A few weeks ago I heard on BBC world that the Chinese Government is concerned about smog affecting its ability to train athletes. particularly affecting its Olympic program.

My guess is that you guys will have a joint venture with the Chinese government, Port and UniSA to have a new training facility built, at the city site around Port road rumoured a while ago.

  • You guys get a new training facility near the current City West site of Unisa. But keep The Port Club and Magpies play at Alberton. Plus invovlement in a globally elite sports science program.
  • Chinese Government have a training facility they can send elite Olympic athletes to without smog issues.
  • UniSA expand upon their work in the Sports science field. Have access to an elite facility near their City West Campus.

Honestly this is a fantastic stab given the clues. Ridiculously impressed and I hope its on the money!

Port Adelaide’s China announcement to go beyond football as Prime Minister, SA Premier and AFL chief join travel party

PORT Adelaide’s major announcement in China on Thursday is to go beyond Australian football and traditional commercial deals between AFL clubs and sponsors.

The Power will carry SA’s flag in new diplomatic, cultural, business and tourism ties with China — an arrangement Port Adelaide president David Koch says “has the potential to change our football club forever.”

The depth of Port Adelaide’s announcement in Shanghai — China’s largest city — and how far it goes beyond football is highlighted by the travel party leaving for China Wednesday. This includes AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. SA Premier Jay Weatherill is already in place after last week leading a 286-strong SA delegation to China.

Port Adelaide’s international plan — known as the “China Strategy” — has been more than two years in the making. The Power’s commitment to promoting Australian football in China has increased in the past fortnight with the launch on China Central Television of a weekly AFL highlights program and a live telecast of Friday’s Port Adelaide-Essendon game from Adelaide Oval.

This follows the Power sponsoring two AFL leagues in south-east China and Team China at last year’s AFL International Cup series in Melbourne.

Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas has labelled Thursday’s announcement in Shanghai as one of the most significant steps in the Power’s off-field rebuild since the club almost hit the wall in 2012.

State government should set up an infrastructure fund, $5 million buy in, bonus is you get Australian Citizenship and a Port Membership.
Story in today's business section of the Oz today - page 20 - saying Chinese direct investment in Oz last year was $15.09 billion up 59.5% on 2014. They had a graphic saying where it went.
Real estate - $6.85b - 45%
Renewable energy $3b - 20%
Healthcare $2.55b - 17%
Mining $1.3b - 9%
Infrastructue $515m - 3%
Energy $500m - 3%
Agribusiness $375m - 3%

They wont be able to build on the parklands will they? The PPS, City council and media would throw a massive wobbly. Maybe they will buy up the Heaven site?
Cant build a facility on Park 25 ie 2 Port Rd which dumb arsed media like to call 1 Port Rd but they could upgrade the oval and surrounding area with drainage etc, knock down the existing building and use that land foot print and build upwards. State government has power to overide Park Lands acts but I dont reckon they would let it go more than 4 or 5 stories high. Thats why if it was a serious relationship between the Chinese Institute of Sport, UniSA and Port the actual institute buildings would be on City West campus and or somewhere else.

But I dont think the Chinese government are involved so I dont think the Park 25 area will be part of the proposal.

If they truely mean 1 Port Road then that would mean getting rid of Adelaide Goal or substantially redeveloping it. Once again you can only use the existing building land foot print area for new buildings but I cant see the Adelaide Goal being allowed to be demolished/redeveloped the greenies/Nimbys/Park lands groups/historical socities will move heaven and earth to stop it despite it doing SFA as a historical/tourism site.

Huge.
Can't wait, when's the announcement?
EDIT: I didn't even see Turnbull is going over. This is gonna be great.
WOW, it must be impressive of the PM and Gillon will be there. Unless Gillon is only going because the PM is there and he is only going because he hpens to be in China.

When thinking about the China strategy you have to get yourself into the multi-layered, multi-dimensional head space.

Those who cant walk and chew gum at the same time wont get it after its announced and let alone wont be able to envisionage it before the announcement.

I think that's called a non sequitur REH.

In which direction is the sponsorship announcement going (assuming the age is right).

It could be from China our way, or afl/govts etc sponsoring our ongoing work there. I suspect the former would see more immediate (financial benefits) but doesn't seem to fit the need to have such a large touring party.

If it was say the afl sponsoring us to run afl in schools program it would be more a long game, but maybe not a guaranteed return. But again that would not line up with government involvement.

So let's say afl in schools comes out of this, this should result in a greater demand for afl to coverage - hence tv rights to be sold.

The v8 Supercars series raced there for a while but not much came of it and there was little interest (probably because it's lower profile than f1).... I say this as I suspect there is always risk these things won't pay off. - although the club seems to have been more professional and thought out in there approach.

They said something about it on 3AW as well, total non-comprehension. My guess is that Caro grabbed the scoop unprepared, too early, and now everyone is leaping around in multi-directional confusion. Dwayno, get your act together.
