if port manage to take out the 05 premiership, suddenly going "back to back" with the addition of 3 consecutive (hopefully 4) minor premierships included just about puts our efforts over the years on par with brisbanes 3 in a row & any of the "teams of the 90's".

that scenario also allows us to rightly claim that our "back to back" premierships were a greater achievement then yours.

we were consistent in a very even competition...NOT one team could claim domination over those two years (with maybe the exception of the Kangaroos in 98, whom i believe we beat)...over the least 2 or so years, Brisbane and Port have been the bench mark, with only Brisbane being able to show anything of real substance for it!

See, in less than 10 years ago most people wouldnt remember Sydney finished top at the end of the minor round. Its IRRELEVANT - get over it. You have failed miserably in 2 finals series 2002 and 2003 and performed well in 1 finals series - 2004.

i agree 100% with you that it is a fantastic achievement to finish top, however our competition doesnt work the same way as the EPL! Finishing top in the AFL puts you in a strong position to challenege for the flag...thats it! In fact...finishing second gets you pretty much the same thing!

Winning more games than any other club would make a coach feel warm inside, but if you do nothing after, then what was the point???

I believe Leigh Matthews said what he did about the Minor Premiership because he has nothing else really to achieve in football! He's done everything else, and for him, finishing top would be the icing on the cake.

I'd like to see the AFL get rid of the trophy for finishing top (who is the joker its named after anyway??? relevance to the AFL???), and possibly dangle a carrot in front of the clubs as a benefit for finishing top...coupled with the "on-field" benefits already in place, it would serve a lot better than an irrelevant trophy that no one ever gets to see anyway!

Its called the Minor Premiership for a reason...and it means nothing if the club doesnt continue its momentum into the major round! Ports dominance was seen this year by finishing top and using that momentum to win the flag. The other times it finished top, it failed, and if anything, proved that finishing top means nothing.

dont get stroppy mate - as i said, a couple of flags & some minor premierships during that time thrown in, makes things very attractive.

next time your team is playing for top spot at the end of the minor round, just remind yourself, your fellow supporters & club members & players that "it doesnt mean anything".

Sorry mate I was abit over the top with my language. It just does annoy me abit that we end up talking about Port Power on the CROWS forum. Not normally by choice, but ususally coz we have 'visitors' like Pknob etc that come over to try and bait us with their normal trolling stuff. IMO if we wanted to talk about Port Power we would go to your site and start a thread/read posts etc

So you're now trying to reshape the entire competition by saying that minor premierships are as nearly as important as actual premiership. Shall we make up the rules as you go along. You can bet that you would get an argument on this one from 15 clubs and their supporters. Face it mate, your minor round premierships don't mean squat, they just magnify the severity of your choke.
