I have no issue with him having a problem with what the AFC has allegedly done and having an opinion on the matter, but to continue to pass rumours as fact is pathetic.

As a media personality and a person with influence there is no excuse in inciting hatred between the two clubs to the degree that he does.

The manner in which he has provided details of the AFC saga is beyond ridiculous, to have a caller bring up the Port/VFL issues from 20 years ago is a testament to the pathetic level of his dialogue.

Blokes like Dittmar, Cornes, Rowey and Rucci do nothing for AFL in this state but only serve to divide AFC and PAFC fans in the unhealthy manner which has driven showdown crowds down to a 2nd rate game.

He says anything he needs to to anger people to get them to ring in. Is sort of like a radio troll. Did get stuck into Port when it was accused that they rigged the B&F. The whole state needs a cleanout of journalists, as quite a few have gotten lazy. Was irked when Dittmar cut that guy off before he could reply to the question about what he knew about the Tippett case. Was Rucci-esque.

Slightly related to this topic was the Rush-Hour interview with Whincup yesterday, when Dittmar kept making jokes about Whincup going to America to race NASCAR and about NASCAR being an easy form of motorsport. To say that one form of motorsport is easier than another shows nothing but ignorance. Had to turn the radio off yesterday after the interview before I broke it.

Well it's become pretty apparent of late that being informative isn't at the top of a sports journalist's list of priorities, that spot being occupied by the need to generate controversy. Unfortunately whereas some accuracy is required for the former, none is required by the latter.

I use to rate Dittmar as a rather well measured and respectful commentator back when he purely called the games. It didn't matter who was playing he often gave honest and well balanced comments. Since he got the daily "drive home" timeslot he has steadily gone downhill... even in many comments on his "beloved" PAFC.

Like you/others have said, he is now simply another SA celebrity media commentator flinging shit to draw a crowd. They're all busy building their own "media brand" to secure their next pay-packet... they don't give a shit about the public.

It is magnified here due to the 2 team (lack of diversity) town. Melbourne have more teams to fling the diluted shit at... but many of their media commentators are the same "brand" builders.

It's a crying shame that probably the most balanced AFL show, the mangrook footy show, was recently axed by the ABC.

He came onto create a fuss about SA fans being feral or something. It was all about ratings and publicity, triple m has just got a heap with this thread.

basically, rather than keep the digs at the Crows light hearted, Dittmar trys to make it more serious (i.e comparing the Crows actions to punching someone in the back of the head and then trying to apologise once they turn around, or simply calling them pathetic).

There is no objectivity, there is no facts just an attempt to incite anger between the two SA teams.

Now I am fine with people having a dig at the Crows for ****ing up because they have made a meal of this.

What I am not ok with is the manner in which Dittmar and co go about it , it is the non accountability of their actions - crap that Dittmar and co say on the radio ultimately gets regurgatated by the people who listen at games or in public and then this causes issues at the football games

this causes unnecessary angst amongst fans and perpetuates the ridiculous level of dislike amongst the two SA teams and the focus becomes off field rather than on field and as we have seen lowering the crowds at games.

and yes, I believe the average joe who listens to the radio does take most of it as gospel and does get influenced by these media personalities.

The entire Tippett fiasco is a great example of how the media in this state works.

All year they had their own agendas, most against Port. Caro told them that this deal existed, it was laughed off.

It hits the fan none of our "journos" have any idea what is happening.

None of them do any real investigating and just regugitate and opinionate on what may be happening.

Meanwhile a Victorian newspaper who broke the story and is leading it.


The biggest issue is that they all have connections to the SANFL/Two clubs and there is lack of competition for a story.
