Ian Collins referred the case to the tribunal. The match day umpire didn't consider the incident to be a reportable offence.

His entitlement was stripped by a flawed tribunal decision initiated by a flawed tribunal process later amended by the AFL to bring its judicial system into line with modern legal standards.

Not only did the umps not report the incident on the day...they gave him 3 votes for Best and bloody FAIREST!!!

Game #325 - Round 13, 2006 vs West Coast at Subiaco (2/7/06)

A rousing 9-point win at Subiaco against the team who'd go on to win the premiership. We also beat the premiers in 2007, 2008 and 2009. (And where did it get us? F***ing nowhere, that's where it got us.)

Our man kicked his regulation 1.1 from 5 k, 5hb.

Check out the game in all its glory:

Game #324 - Round 12, 2006 vs Brisbane at the Gabba (17/6/06)

One of our best, kicking 4.2 from 8k, 2hb in 42-point win against the Lions.

Grant led from the front and was always dangerous throughout the match.

Mitch Hahn did his ACL, adding to the plague of season-ending knee injuries that also claimed Luke Darcy, Bob Murphy and, erm, Tim Walsh and Adam Morgan.

Game #323 - Round 11, 2006 vs Fremantle at Docklands (11/6/06)

2k, 4hb, injured in 14-point win over the Dockers. At this stage of his career he would leave the ground with injuries (often "stingers" in his shoulder) almost every week.

Game #330 - Round 18, 2006 vs Richmond at MCG (5/8/06)

Before running through the banner for his 330th game, Chris accepted a handball from the previous games record holder, Doug Hawkins. When Doug broke the record, he received a flick pass from the great EJ Whitten. In 2009, Chris and Doug would combine for a chain of handballs to Brad Johnson when he broke the record. So there's the lineage: from EJ to Dougy to Chris to Johnno.

They gave away these posters at the ground, bearing a stylised portrait of the great man which also featured on the team jumpers that day (how many players get to run out wearing a picture of themselves?):

To put Grant's career in perspective, here's a vid from his induction to the AFL Hall of Fame, including Terry Wheeler paying tribute: http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/video/2012-06-13/chris-grant-hof-highlights

An interesting footnote to this game was that James Hird came down to training to address the Bulldogs players about Grant's achievements. While Hird's reputation has been battered in recent times, it's interesting to see the universal respect he had as a player: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/james-hird-speaks-bulldogs-all-ears-good-for-footy.259458/

As for the game, this was no cameo from Granty but a virtuoso performance from one of the game's greats. He kicked 2.2 from 16k, 5 hb, 10m and 2 goal assists in the victory over the Tigers.
I used that poster to make my own banner that has been to every Bulldog home game and a handful of interstate ones since.

Game #322 - Round 10, 2006 vs Hawthorn at Docklands (3/6/06)

Kicked 1.0 from 10k, 6 hb. One of our best, switching between defence and attack in 21-point win over the Hawks.

As The Age put it:

Their 21-point victory at Telstra Dome — over a Hawthorn team that improved on the previous weeks' efforts, got the better start and led for much of the match — was built on the skill and exuberance of young players such as Shaun Higgins, in only his second game, and Ryan Griffen, but also on the smarts of older ones such as Johnson, Scott West and Chris Grant.

Game #321 - Round 9, 2006 vs Collingwood at MCG (26/5/06)

One of our best, kicking 4.1 from 7k, 4hb in 34-point loss to the Pies on a Friday night.

The Bulldogs' fight was led by a couple of veterans: Scott West at his prolific best in the middle, and Chris Grant up forward.

Game notable for:
  • Robert Murphy doing his ACL in a wrenching tackle from simian power forward Anthony Rocca; and
  • Shaun Higgins' first game for the club.
Peep the game here:

Any one remember a game against West Coast in 2005 at the MCG he had a big knee brace on and kicked like 6? or his 300th where Darcy kicked 6 and we were down by 5 goals at half time and came back to win?

Game #320 - Round 8, 2006 vs Sydney at SCG (20/5/06)

Kicked 1.0 from 8k, 2hb in 26-point loss to the Swans, playing mainly in defence.

Game notable for being the Dogs' last home game at the SCG, and Dale kicking his first ever AFL goal (out of a career total of 3):

Game #324 - Round 12, 2006 vs Brisbane at the Gabba (17/6/06)

Grant led from the front, kicking 4.2 from 8k, 2hb in a big win against the Lions.

Mitch Hahn did his ACL, adding to the plague of season-ending knee injuries that also claimed Luke Darcy, Bob Murphy and, erm, Tim Walsh and Adam Morgan.
I think you need to call players by their proper names. It's 'the bullocking Mitch Hahn'.

Game #319 - Round 7, 2006 vs Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium (14/5/06)

Kicked 2.0 from 5k, 3hb in 76-point win over the Power.

Although the Power mounted a mini fight-back in the early stages of the third term, booting four goals to the Bulldogs' one, Granty put an end to the home side's charge with his first major midway through the term.

Game #318 - Round 6, 2006 vs St Kilda at Docklands (6/5/06)

One of our best again, kicking 2.0 from 9k, 3hb in 14-point loss to the Saints. Turtle lifted the Dogs' spirits with a nice crumbing goal at the start of the final quarter and got us back within striking distance late in the game, but to no avail.

This game was notable for the infamous Gia bump on Kozi:

Note: two victims.

Game #317 - Round 5, 2006 vs Adelaide at AAMI Stadium (29/4/06)

4k in 77-point loss to the Crows.

A dirty day for the club and the great man. Grant was well held until a knee in the back forced him off midway through the third quarter but he contested well with little support.

This was the Dogs' first loss for the year but could have been expected, given that each week we were winning by progressively smaller margins.

Anyway, why not enjoy some highlights instead of thinking too much about this s**t game?

I actually attended that game, I was disgusted with that Rocca tackle.

Game #316 - Round 4, 2006 vs Geelong at Docklands (22/4/06)

7 k, 2hb, playing injured in a thrilling 1-point win over the Cats (later in the year we'd lose to them by a point).

Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said Chris Grant and Brad Johnson were brave to play on despite carrying injuries: "I think it showed their courage, but certainly their talent, their willingness to do something for the team and we certainly needed them in the end."
