I know this has been done to death but I understand why he is not getting a game but regardless surely he has to still be in contention he is burning up the sanfl, 33 touches, 2 goals, 10 marks on the weekend is outstanding.

He must of really severed his ties because this form by any other player would not go unrewarded.

I dont know, its a tough one, maybe if the side wasnt going so well he would get a game, is he worth keeping next season on a one year contract just as a solid depth player?

Absolutely, but will the club see it the same way? That the question, I would offer him a 1-year contract with a massive pay cut from this years deal.

But who knows maybe Chris Ladhams mind has already been made up and decided that he has finished playing AFL football and there is no pressure to perform any more. Even if the AFC offers him a contract he may not accept it and just walk away.

I have always thought he was a very talented player and on talent alone is in our best 18. Sometimes talents isn't enough and you need to complement it with hard work. By all accounts Ladhams rocked up to pre-season training in unacceptable shape and has been behind 8 ball since day one.

I would give him one final chance but I don't think the club would. I would go down the same track we went with Stevens and Begley. Give him until some time in december to prove to us that he is a) fit enough, b) hungry enough and c) determined enough to work on his weaknesses. If he is good to go, keep him for one year. If he is not willing to do that then just show him the door ;)

Sounds reasonable to me.

I have no problem with him staying on the list but still being behind the likes of Van Berlo and Knights I just think he would be a valuable player to have as a depth player if our blessed run of injuries ends next season and we are hit.

But I think your idea Stiffy is the best idea for all involved.

He got named in the emergencies a few weeks ago. I've been following him in the SANFL, hopefully he gets another chance.

Am I too quick to jump down on young Van Berlo? His disposals haven't impressed me much, and most of the time, his reflexes are too slow, and often results in clangers. I'd rather give Landhams the chance now to prove himself.

Van Berlo is only young and still needs to develop. I've seen some great things done by him this year. He's fast and puts his head over the ball. His first goal in AFL was a true example of this.

Ladhams is 100 times the player Van Berlo is, yet VB gets a gig ahead of The Lad... which is good for me because i rather him at North. I hope he does walk away from the Crows because he should have been playing AFL this year... he is a future Magarey Medallist in the SANFL.

Anyway, it seems people on this board go on about the same things and the same players every week.

Did Van Berlo play for South on the weekend? I didn't notice him.
If the Crows want him to develop they should move him from Noarlunga, they are a rabble and play a disgusting brand of footy. If he stays there he might become the next Handby.

I think you mean the pre-season before, Chris was in better shape for the start of this year from what i've heard. Think as stated before his attitude must not sit well with some, pitty probably in our best 22 players and should have got a game at some stage during the year.

A bit harsh considering that Handby played for the Bays while on the Crows list and only transferred to South after he was delisted.

Can't have been too bad - he was named as their 3rd best player in the 'tiser. Stats were pretty good too.

Van Berlo is in his first year after being drafted and his star is on the rise. He will get better and better, and he does something that Ladhams hasn't done for some considerable time. Trains flat out and works hard in games. He will be a 10 + year player for the club.

Ladhams is a player blessed with great skills. The fact that he doesn't get chosen for the Crows should ring alarm bells that something else is very very wrong in his make-up.

Our current 22 players are all dedicated and hard at it, which has resulted in fantastic team footy because there are no weak links. Players with poor application and dedication would only weaken the team and won't get chosen.

Is there any chance Ladhams is the player referred to in todays "Adelaide Confidential". An AFL listed player out on the turps last Friday - who played in the SANFL.

Hes one that came to mind ..... as was Pickett.

Hes certainly unlucky.

He continues to pick up touches in the SANFL but its hard to change a winning side, but i agree with offering him a 1 year deal at years end, just so the club can say, this is it, perform or your out.

Ladhams has been in the AFL system for 6 years! How much time do you need to realise that if you don't apply yourself your not going to make it?? I don't think offering him a 1 year contract is going to fix it! Time to move on, we can give the 1 year contracts to a Matty Bode or Kris Massie or even Scott Stevens, while they may not have the skill to match Ladhams, they do have the application, which speaks in greater volume for younger players to learn from, most young players have a skill base, what they need to learn is application to make it at the top level.

I think you have to give the young fellas time. Try to hold off on assessments until they have played between 20-40 games. I have in the past completely written off Bock and Shirls only for them to prove me wrong. Too be honest, a few years ago, I even doubted whether mattner and Rutten had what it takes to make it and look at them now.

Great post - I agree with everything. Mental application is more important that talent. We are not currently picking our most skillful 22 in our side, but we are picking our best 22 team.

Well said.

A mediocre attitude will always produce a mediocre performance - particularly when it really counts.

Craig is only selecting 100% goers - as it should be.

Lads is a quality player and should be in the Crows side. I would much rather him than VB. He's been BOG for about 4-5 weeks in a row. He would be averaging about 25 possessions, 6 marks and 2 goals during this time. I think he should get a game in round 22 vs WCE, as we should rest some key players. This will allow our keys to rest, and also prove if Lads is up to (which he is) AFL standard.

I don't think Ladhams was on the turps Friday night considering how well he played Saturday, completely dominated the game.

My comment about Handby had nothing to do with his skill level, i was referring to a few off the ball punches to the stomach area of Mark Jeffries... i've heard he does this quite often, the gutless prick.

Van Berlo must have done ok to get 3rd best, but don't go by what the Advertiser and Mail say.. i think Gilham was 5th best even though he was awarded the players player award and 2nd best. I know VB might not get a senior game at a stronger team, but the attitude his Panther team mates display is poor and i really hope he doesn't rub off on the talented youngster, also their style of play is similar to Port Power... chipping around, handballing to players under the pump.
