Umm... why is Grigg at #46. Surely you jest!

I know he didn't have a good combine, but you are severely underrating this kid. He'll go in the top 20 at least IMO.

For some reason Grigg on BF has been given this coating that he is no good and too slow. What more can he do, play good league football, have a great carnival earning AA honours and a known junior star before this year at 16 and 17. Didnt he get a league game when he was 16 or something?

Gun, ran 3.19 for 20m which isnt too bad. Not alot of difference between someone running 3.1 to 3.2 which is what a few other highly rated mids got around.

I disagree. I think Grigg is still very highly rated on BigFooty. It's just that by dropping him down my order a bit, it's opened up a whole heap of new scenarios. People now see him as a potential bargain, so obviously they will be hoping he slides and will be including him lower in their 'wishlists'.

Lots of players have made early league debuts or made the U18 AA side and not been first round picks. I've already said why I've dropped him a bit further than others, and his sprint time was not the reason.

Just read your info about him. I havnt seen a lot of him so i cant comment. But you have him down the list due to his inability to provide pressure or do anything when he doesnt have the footy. Probably one of those players that has some arrogance at junior level will quickly learn once he enters an AFL club.

Chris can you expand on your queries on Docherty's licking?

I had understood and viewed from available footage that he was one of the best in the draft?

Cheers and thanks again and as always

It's good, but considering the hype I expected more. I sort of think the quality of his kicking is a little overstated because of his run and attacking nature, the kick just caps off the play. But I like what he does before the kick more. If that makes sense?

In the Herald Sun article today, Docherty pretty much said what I was thinking. When he was talking about his attacking style, he said "sometimes it doesn't pay off, sometimes it does". Just think he'll need to tighten up a bit, because he wont have the time that he does now at AFL level.

Like Nic Suban and Mitch Grigg, I think sometimes distance can be confused as skill when it comes to kicking. Whereas often they are not as consistent as they should be, and perhaps don't lower their eyes as often as they should.

One of the first things i picked up about Docherty as well. He doesnt lower his eyes, every time he gets the footy its lets see how far i can kick this thing and who is the best player furtherest away. Ill kick it to them.

Just by watching the highlights of him on afl.com. If you stop it at the 0.24 second mark he has a player free running forward 20 metres over the top should have been an earlier kick or a handball, instead he goes long to a contest admittedly they had extra numbers at the contest so wasnt a horrible decision.

Again stop the vision at 0.56-0.57 he has a free player breaking through the middle of the ground a shorter option than the one he uses and his vision seems so narrow. Long and straight.

The way AFL is they dont like players that turn the footy over or give the opportunity for the other team to get the footy after a quick break away from the backline, it gets turned over and AFL players cut you up finding free targets in the forward line. Your now better off controlling the footy and finding a target.

This guy reminds me so much of when Ash smith was playing for Vic Metro. Fast dashing half back flank type player with a booming kick, but always kicked it as far as he could, didnt lower the eyes. I wasnt a fan of Ash smith back than.

Docherty remains to be one of the more intriguing players in this draft for me. I mean inside football said if exposed to the midfield he could have been a top 5 pick. Thats probably not too far wrong and guys that play for successful sides in the TAC cup, WAFL colts ect usually go higher or usually get more players selected from there sides than they should. He is easily Gippys best player and from memory they were a top 3 side.

Would love to have seen him go through the midfield, im not sure if he is a midfielder, midfielders need great vision and decision making i think thats his biggest weakness, but would still love to see how he would read the footy from stoppagers and off the ruck and than break away with the footy.

Grrrrrr. Yeah baby:p

Oops. I don't know him that well... Bloody k too close to l!

Many thanks for above feedback. Quality BF drafts board analysis that is sincerely appreciated. I do like him now and as a midfield option I am starting to covet him. Probably optimistic to expect him to be there at 26 though

Even have come up with a potential nickname: FedEx. (SD: Special Delivery)

Those queries on Docherty (not lowering the eyes and decision making) would have to be 2 things that can easily be taught. A few years in the AFL system will see those sort of things improve dramatically.

I tend to steer clear of young guys who are noticeably slow and technically poor disposers of the footy, as they are almost impossible traits to fix.

Docherty has some serious tools to work with. Iron out a few things and you have a gun defender come midfielder, I reckon.

Yes agree Chris, our need for precise delivery out of congestion and from the break away often has let us down ....I think Waldhuter is our best shot there. Chris you have not mentioned Leigh Williams from Norwood 19/5/90 195cm 92kg ....would he be a reasonable option up forward for us and maybe a rookie if we cant get say Tom Lee?

Can't help you there, sorry. The Eastern Football League isn't exactly a strong point of mine. Off the top of my head, I think I remember hearing his name last year as a major smokey. But anything I was to tell you would be straight off a Google search.

Good read pal.

Couple surprised me - would be really surprised if Toby Greene fell that far so interested in why you think he falls. I know you dont like putting negs up but just interested for a feel. Like you have seen a lot of Forster and is very good but just wonder if #11 or so is a reach so interested where you think the development comes from.

I like Toby Greene, just maybe not so much as others. But having said that, I don't expect him to fall as far as I have him. It was more just a case of me having my favourites, so someone like Greene kept falling down.

Everything he does, he does really well. Obviously he is hard at it, and will probably average over 20 touches from his very first game. I just see him a bit more as a Rhys Palmer type - someone you love having in your team, but not necessarily someone who will ever win you a game.

If GWS overlook him (and I think they will) then who knows where he will end up. I wouldn't recommend him for Brisbane, he would fill a need for Fremantle but there are other more pressing needs. The only team in the top 20 I really think should go for him is Essendon.

As for Alex Forster, I tend to change my draft around every now and then, and when I do I tend to hype up one of my favourites. I've done it with Waldhuter, Ah Chee, Ellis-Yolmen, Williams, Newman and Yeo. It was Forster's turn to jump up the order for a bit.

I just really like the kid. Just clean and composed with everything he does, whether it's his kicking, running or reading of the play. I imagine some people will question whether he becomes anything more than a half back, but I see him running through the midfield and even if he doesn't with his size he should be a good prospect across half back. Might not ever get the rewards as such, but I reckon he'd be a good chance to go on a Heppell like debut season next year.

You want a top 5 talent around the 15-20 mark? Don't we all. :)

Well both Snoop and myself have Richmond taking Kavanagh, and I suppose he would be the best bet in that regards. Unless someone else slides, like a Taylor Adams. Has all the talent to go much earlier, just had a bit of an unlucky year this season with injuries and the like.

Otherwise, I would say a Devon Smith. On talent alone, Mitch Grigg would fit in with the others too.

Yes it would be a dream but wont happen, was more looking at the type of players they are rather than the elite level.

Also Kavanagh, who would you say he will end up like all things going well ?

Chris, could you give me some info on Murry Mason, please. I know he's a favorite of yours but I didn't see him featured in your mock. If he's there, I may have skimmed over him. Reading all this on my phone. Is he a rookie list prospect or do you think he has the potential to be picked up in the first two rounds?
