clarke and his NSW mate

Would really like to see Cosgrove force his way into batting calculations. But he won't. Our depth is flimsy as for both keeping and batting imo. Paine is wonderful but serious doubt still on his ability to get back long term, and Wade has technical flaws that prevent him from looking the real deal for mine. I mean I like the bloke and he has performed well, but tend to think it's Paine or mediocrity.

Paine is not 'wonderful'. He is a solid batsman and a very good keeper. What technical flaws does Wade have?

Our depth for keeping is good, IMO. The least of our problems right now.

Wade the incumbent
Paine the not-really-wonderful-1-FC-100-really-is-that-all?
Haddin the hated
Hartley the gutsy
Nevill the ...person?
Triffitt the young
Dunk the basketball

The top 5 are all worthy options IMO.

Needs to be able to force himself through a door frame before worrying about test selection

Does anyone think that all the publicity Haddin's getting, is designed to prepare the public for his inclusion?

part of me says yes. same with no.

YES - foxsports seem to have a permanent presence at nsw training etc. they always get the most coverage of any state.

NO - it is a significant story IMHO (haddin). 1 spot for a keeper, and the circumstances in his departure last series leads itself to newsworthiness. its a topic that needs oxygen, and gives us something to talk about leading into the summer.

The age is reporting that haddin will come back in as keeper, wade will stay as a batsman and cowan will be dumped.

If that is true it would be quite frankly worse than anything hilditch and his dropkicks came up with, it's even worse than the lamebrain idea of playing haddin as the specialist bat.

read that.

Its insane.

neither Haddin nor Wade are good enough to be batsmen in their own right, although both competent with the bat (wade more so than Haddin)

Haddin isn't good enough to be a keeper and never was.

Mad decision if true.

It would be bloody funny if what the Age is saying is true. It should scream of of 'no, no we don't want to make a decision', except that Invers and Marsh have more backbone than that, actually I think Clarke has as well (I'll get shot down for that I know) and I don't really believe that Cowan is a long-term option anyway.

Neither is Haddin, I wouldn't bring him back in at all, but he's got far more credit in the bank than either Cowan or Wade so it's understandable if he holds his place.

It would be interesting to read how Eddie the Intellectual would spin it in his inevitable article. Probably some guff about taking one for the team, only with a more highly wrought metaphor to describe it.

Terrible, terrible idea. It's quite simple: Wade is the future, is improving and has proven his capability at Test level. Perhaps Cowan is on the edge of losing his place but surely deserves more than 7 Tests. If not, there are many other Shield players on the fringe, keeping in mind the Ashes are 9 months away.

What is so hard about selecting the six best batsmen in the country at 1-6?

watson has backed starc and haddin to be in the test team. but didnt say who he'd want out.

watson cant win here - journo asks about a team mate (6ers) so he practically has to publicly back them. but what of his current team mate wade?
I think he can answer that question without taking sides. Ricky did it well, he just said they are both good options etc. I think it's really poor from Watson to say what he did.

Watto plays for NSW, plays for the 6ers, of course he is going to say that. Haddin is not struggling in the T20's with the bat, he performed in his FC match, He is probably going to get the nod for the first test.

Ask Siddle and Pattinson who they think should get the nod, I bet they would lean towards Wade too.

Punter has been playing the media for almost 20 years. Thats pretty good experience. Watto isn't exactly a rocket surgeon, he just backed his teammates as he always does.

Seriously - it's not even a close call, Wade is the Test Keeper, the baton has been passed. It's just media speculation - otherwise it's time for a Royal Commission.

Here's a question for you - When Haddin and Nevill, both line up for Easts in the Grade comp in Sydney - who keeps?

I know the answer and it should indicate where the future lies.

Cosgrove is a lazy slob, he shouldn't get within a Nullabor of the Test side.
just because a bloke carries a few extra kilos doesn't mean that he shouldn't be looked at. Cosgrove he's a better batsman than some others who have been looked at in recent years, he just can't do quick singles that's all.

I love Cosgrove, he is a pure cricketer and as someone mimicking his build I stand up for him all the time. Having said that he just get's bigger and bigger each year and there would have to be 20 blokes in front of him because of his weight. He would have to make 1200 runs to even get close. The way the sport is being run these days - he will never be picked again.

He needs to play for the Stars and get on the Jenny Craig system and see how he goes.

He did do a Jenny Craig diet a few years back, only problem is the bloke can't walk past a fast food store without popping in for a bite.

It doesn't take a 'rocket surgeon to answer it the was Punter did, it takes common sense.

The bloke isn't just 'carrying a few extra kilos', he is flat out just completely fat. If he lacks the discipline to get himself into even half decent shape with the carrot of higher honours there what does it say about his attitude?

The guy is a lazy idiot and will rightly never be under consideration from the selectors.
