ESS vs WCE,semi-final 1996.
My memories include...Hird runing riot,Fletcher kicking 2 goals in 1st qtr as a forward,Alessio plays at FF along with the skinny bullet-like Lloyd. Bewick is everywhere, down back,in the middle, running in and having a shot at goal,Mercuri gets injured,Barry Young does nothing, Cousins plays on Wanganeen all day,Cousins beats Wangers a few times in a fight for the ball,Wallis and Harvs destroy any chance of Sumich making an impact...Rama is sensational.

Highlights...Hird's run-the-length-of-the-ground long goal at the end with Sumich huffing and puffing chasing behind him:thumbsu:

Peter Matera's out of bounds on the full kick out on the wing late in the game and the huge crowd jeers the Bomber faithful gave him:thumbsu:

Qualifying Final in '89 was a good one.

We were big underdogs after the Cats steller season, and we opened up with a flurry with Van Der Haar taking a couple of big grabs. We smashed them early, and it was sweet. Michael Long kicked one of the best goals I have ever seen that day. I was in the old Southern Stand. He kicked the goal from the pocket, near where the Ponsford joins the Southern. I've always said that if the TV cameras were on that side of the ground, it would be goal of the year, because the bend on the ball was magic. You coudn't see the bend from the typical camera on the other wing, so it didn't look as good on TV.

1983 Elimination Final against Carlton.

Back-to-back weeks at the Park - and remarkably similar scorelines in each match. Just to break the hoodoo of the elimination final perhaps in part made us a premiership side a year later. And then having Buhagfiar and Clayton complicit in the "headband" saga as well.

1993 preliminary final againt the Crows.
I was out at the Central Highlands Grand Final, listening to this game on my walkman, no interest in the game on the field.
Just gave me goosebumps when we came back as well as we did!:thumbsu:

Six posts and not one Carlton supporter.

I'm surprised.

Nobby, I'm pretty sure you'll find Rama wasn't playing in the 1996 semi.
He would have been about 15 ;)

2000 beating the living daylights out of the Roos or the 2001 Premliminary v Hawks.

Both completly different games but theres nothing like watching the Hawks players at the end of the game with there spirts completly broken.

125 point win is just something else, especially agaisnt old North.

Best football (actually sporting) performance I've ever seen. Only thing that was missing was that attempted soccer goal by Bewick in the last quarter.

My favourite part of watching the replay is seeing king celebrate the first goal...high comedy.

I thought the topic was the Eagle final !!

The topic is classic finals, the initial post just kicked things off.

The 93' finals series was awesome. I was at every game, we initially lost by 2 points to Carlton, then beat an awesome West Coast team and the came-back against Adelaide. The Granny was the icing on the cake.

The 96' finals had the makings to be brilliant also, but we were robbed in Sydney. I remember Wanganeen giving Cousins an absolute bath. The reason there was so much interest in the contest is because Cousins had just been awarded the 'rising star' a few days before.

1984 prelim final where we thrashed Eddiewood by more than 20 goals would have to be up there.
And the grand final the next week, coming from 4 goals down at 3/4 time, was something special. The first Bomber flag in my lifetime, and I've been fortunate enough to see 3 more - and hopefully plenty more to come.

Thanks for that.

Apart from the Grand Finals, the `83 elimination had to be one of the best days I`ve lived . As Pazza mentioned we hadn`t won one since `68 and to beat that scum two weeks in a row coming on top of elimination final losses in `79, `81 and `82, well that was an extremely emotional day for every Essendon fan that was fortunate to be there. Anyone got a copy ?

1984 g/f was special ..this old guy in front of me got knocked over and wanted to fight everyone cause his binoculars broke in standing room...the crowd went ballistic when weston kicked the goal,, total bloody mayhem...i was just in front of where nobby clarke punched the ball away from leathal in last quarter...never experienced anything like it.......and remember it as if it were yesterday....

Can't remember what year it was, around 2003-04 when Hird got knocked out by Whelan and came back and starred as Hille kicked 3 in the last to get us over the line.

The 1999 Prelim comes to mind. :)

I'll see you your Prelim and raise you a premiership.......Thank you carlton

The 1984 Prelim was fantastic...I was sitting in the top level of the members stand at Waverley and will never forget the wonderful sight of the hordes of collingwood supporters streaming out of the ground at half time with their team about 12 goals down:D

The GF the next week was pretty good too;)

Bar the gf's the 1 final that stand's out more than any is the 2000 Qualifying Final vs Kangaroos. We kicked 32 goals that day against the reigning premiers with Lloyd kicking his 1st ton!

:)...You have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch you out mate.

I'll explain.Last weekend my 8 year old son started going through my box of footy Bomber VHS tapes and we decided to put a few games on. We watched a few qtrs of different games dating back to '92.

Dad has a few quiet ones during the afternoon and decides to start a thread about classic finals. Dad gets confused and forgets which match he saw Rama play well in....
