Sorry 1.

I'm tired and pretty pissed off as I think we all are to be honest with you. Sorry to offend ;)
You are being a bit of a prick with your attacks on other posters.

Just remember we all support the same team.

Peace.

Yes I know. Time for bed I think....the computer screen is looking a little blurry. Peace out.

I'd take him. He was better under Mick for some reason.
Fair point. Under Buckley, Shaw has lacked self-discipline, with tonight perhaps the best example of the cost to the team of his brain fades. If he is still contracted he is not a free agent and said he wants to finish his time at Collingwood. After this game, in which he also looked slow and provided no run or rebound, is it time to cut our losses with him? He helped to set the plot and tone of the loss with his gifting of 2 goals to PA.

Didak should be cut loose and the game of Thomas raised questions about his ability to play final's football. Dwyer looked a more limited player, but basically everyone delivering the ball into our forward line was at fault tonight.

Goldsack was one of our worst contributors again. I don't understand what anyone really sees in him, other than the possibilities offered by his versatility. When tested, he doesn't deliver enough defensively or offensively and his disposal is unreliable. Get rid of him though Maxwell should go first.

It's time for Maxwell to step down as captain. Keep him in the leadership group and he can be a voice on the field... but it's time he was picked on merit.

JT, Elliott, Seedsman and Williams have all been good developers this year. Grundy obviously. A fit D Thomas and Toovey will make a big difference going into next season.

I'd keep Jolly if we can retain him on mediocre pay for another season. We're losing Hudson, and Witts lacks a bit at this stage in his career. We have some great building blocks but some insurance is needed.

It's a shit way to end the season but realistic supporters could see we were a long way off Hawthorn, would find Geelong a helluva challenge and would struggle playing Freo on the road. We need to get better across the board to be a flag contender again.

Good post.

The problem tonight, like it has been for much of the year, is that we lack good ball users and smart footballers. We won the contest tonight, but Port with one and sometimes two spare men back just easily rebounded, and our workrate going back was terrible. Also Ports ball use into their forwards when they were sometimes outnumbered was far superior to ours. Buckley was clearly outcoached on the night, as we really needed to either man them all up, or go the other way and play with our two free men behind the ball as well but understand that quick kicks forward were unacceptable.
Nathan Brown is an unintelligent footballer, so to is Goldsack, when you add Williams who has been brilliant but is still raw, Paul Seedsman who works three times harder forward than he does back, a lame Heath Shaw and a rapidly regressing Nick Maxwell, and its pretty easy to see why we are so easy to score against.
Now Seedsman might go up a level next year, Toovey slotting back in will be good too. But I can't see a spot for Maxwell. Tonight was the night he needed to impact more being loose and he couldn't do it.I would consider going with FRost and Keefe as our key defenders next year, as FRost seemed a lot more agile. I think Nathan Brown is tradeable. I just can't stand the stupid decisions, not only around the ball, but body positioning too. There was a moment in the third qtr when he was behind Schultz on the members wing and Collingwood had Shaw and Williams at the front of the pack free. Instead of protecting the back of the pack, he let Schultz turn him inside out and get goalside of him, and almost resulted in him winning a one on 3. Needs to lift.

We really need to get an excitement machine up forward. A small and lightning fast goal sneak. There's no magic down there at the moment.

Gone: Maxwell (have loved you, please know its your time and retire), Didak, Krakouer, Jolly, Ben Johnson, Russell (if possible??) Brown as trade bait.

Shaw is still a star, and is clearly playing with a niggly groin. Had a horror end to the year, but we cant be getting rid of good defenders who can actually run it out and win a contest, when that is exactly what we need.

2014:
B. Shaw, Frost, Toovey
HB. Williams, Keefe, Seedsman
C. Daisy, Pendles, Sidebottom
HF. Elliot, Reid, Swan
F. L Jetta, Cloke, Fasolo
R. Grundy, Ball, Beams

J. Thomas, O'Brien, MaCaffer (full time tagger)
sub: Blair.

We so badly need good defenders who have the balls to try and win the ball, espeically at ground level.

When you think of the improvement in Williams, Seedsman, Josh Thomas, Grundy, Elliot and Keefe at times, it really has been quite a promising year.

We've been saying all year that we need an elite kick coming out of defence like a Birchall or a Hurn. What would people think about Fasolo in that role? He has the kicking skills and it would offer something vastly different to what we have down there at the moment. It would also be an asset for kick ins. I guess the question marks are over his decision making but I'd like to see him give it a go. He's a similar player to Elliot as a forward anyway and I'd rather see Sidebottom on a forward flank than floating around half back.

Personally i would like to see Ramsay being built for that role, i think Fasolo is naturally a forward and is our 2nd best forward when on song, should keep him there.

Hopefully one of Seedsmen or Ramsay can develop into a fast long raking kick type that can accurately get us out of defense

Beams should be captain, not Pendlebury.
Cleaning anyone out of our current best 22 will set us further behind.
Reid needs to go back in defence, lack of intercept marks was evident last night, and he is an elite kick.
We need another key forward if we are serious about winning next year.

Daisy was doing well in that role, would like to see Broomhead play there next year rather than Fas.

Man i used to watch this team play every weekend along with my friends.... they would in turn come to ours increasing attendance 5 fold :p.... no but all jokes aside i used to watch with great enthusiasm as Collingwood ripped sides a new one on most occasions....it was clean structured game play... now its like a train wreck....its almost like half the team plays on confidence and when the pins are down they drag everyone else with them...Health Shaw, Nick Maxwell, Steele Sidebottom to a certain extent, Nathan Brown and O'Brien are all under performing and costing the team, maybe it's the new game plan, who knows because you have most of your top players still available with the exception of Thomas and Jolly although Grundy has been doing ok...

So you think if we're less fit we'll kick better? Maybe if we diminish our recruiting staff we'll mark the ball better too. Do go on.

We're not fit at all how many games this year did we get over run in the last quarter just like last night. look at port they kill us for fitness don't see them doing any high altitude training there coach just made them run laps all per season! I take it your happy with our great kicking skills, they were on first class for you last night

We're like the new Richmond. At least it's as painful to watch as Richmond were :)

I would package Seedsman with Sidebottom..

Seedsman is a dumb player, no defensive game.
If Blair ever had Seedsman's kicking skills and size, he'd be a star.

Ok I Shaw has had bad 12months.

What if we throw pick 18 + pick 23 + 2014 1st round compo pick for Shaw + Thomas?

Collingwood would have pick 14, 18, 23. As well as 2x 1st rounders for the 2014 draft

Thanks....but no thanks.

Maybe, but you'd have to ask the club. We aren't in charge of trades.

Couldn't agree more with all those points

Retire/Delist/Trade:

Maxwell, Krakour, Didak, Lynch, Jolly, Hudson, Johnson, Yagmoor, Gault, Hartley, Russell, Clarke, D.Thomas, Shaw, Mooney, Paine.

Possibilities: Goldsack, Blair.

On behalf of opposition supporters who watch football, let me be the first to let you guys know that Heath Shaw's trade value is exceptionally low
I reckon he is agun who plays with great passion.
But he lost the plot Yesterday and Buckley said as such.
I don't think him and Buckley get on so Shaw could quite easily depart.

Hopefully Thomas stays & with a fit Young & Toovey the list isn't too bad. Another key defender would be handy as I don't think Brown is good enough against the best forwards.

Finally, Buckley was out coached last night. To allow Port to have extra defenders back all night & have 2 & 3 defenders against 1 forward in one on ones was mind boggling.

We need to move big on a second key forward. Reid is good , but if he has games like he did tonight, its such a waste of his talent. We either need him down back or we actually utilize him more up forward and have cloke leading out to the flanks a bit more.

Would not consider trading sidey or brown. Ridiculous knee jerk reaction

It was Reid's worst game for the season last night. But what really threw the forward line out of whack was the presence of Keeffe. He was continually running into the holes that Reid and Cloke needed to be leading into. I think it was a big mistake of Buckley's to play Keeffe in this role. I don't blame Keeffe for this, it was his first game up forward all year. It reminded me of the Cloke to CHF move by MM in the 03' GF all those years ago. We also had Elliott and Maxwell through the forward line. Far too many tall and lead up types. The balance was completely off.
