Geez, this one is tough. A player fell through who I wasn't expecting (I won't name him though to not compromise the next selections), but I think I need to stand my ground.

For pick 24, I select the great John Greening on a wing. If he'd have had a fair run at it, he'd have been top 3 on this list by the end of his career, but even so he showed his remarkable talent and is probably a bit stiff to even not have been higher.

Talent is really flying off the shelves at the moment

Plenty more left on the shelf!

12 people x 18 rounds = 216 players, or around 20% of all the players who have ever worn the black and white at senior level.

Suspect it’ll get get extra interesting and fun after around pick 120ish.

Was hoping to have Fothergill and Greening in the same line up.

Forthergill is underrated in my view - possibly a bigger 'what if' story than even Greening.

Broke into the side in '37 when he was 16 (a premiership side) and won the B&F, even though he missed 6 games. Won another two B&Fs and a Brownlow in the next three years (when he was only 20), and then I think quit and went to Williamstown. Got injured pretty badly I think, and though he came back, I don't believe he was ever quite the same. Could have been the best player we have seen.

Des Fothergill was obviously an extraordinary talent. Given his youth and how small he was when he first played for us the impact he made right from the start was incredible.

We still got plenty of great football out of him, but it is fair to say we could have had so much more with a bit of luck!

My dad often tells stories about some of the old blokes telling his old man (old blokes in the 1970s, so quite old!) that Fothergill was going to be the pick of them all. Another what if in Collingwood history, even despite being an outright legend in his career anyway

Len Fitzgerald might have been one of our all-time greats (he debuted at 15 and played his last game for us at 21) but left for SA and won 3 Magarey Medals there. Back in the early days the likes of Jim Flynn, Max Hislop and Allan Belcher ended up having outstanding careers at other clubs after barely getting a game with Collingwood. Bob Nash captained Collingwood but for some reason didn't want his son (Laurie) to play football when he was younger, and when he returned to Victoria from Tasmania Laurie Nash played with South Melbourne. He'd have been handy!

While not as heralded as the Prince Jack Regan, Dibbs was brilliant enough to hold down Full Back in 5 Premiership teams. He played 216 games for the 1 solitary goal and was spoken as one of the secrets to our Machine success given his humble nature.

He was not even a Collingwood 6 footer measuring just 175cm. Initially coming to Collingwood as a rover, his close-checking tight play often saw the ball spill to ground where he was able to then use his pace and exquisite kicking to exit the imaginary D50 at the time.

Welcome aboard Charlie, great to have you in the key defensive post.

With Pick 28 I’ve decided to anchor my midfield with Brownlow medallist Marcus Whelan in the centre square. A prodigious talent, hard at it, skilled and a great mark for his size. He claimed a Brownlow, Copeland and Victorian honours 3 times. He saved his best performances for the big stage and won two premierships.
