"Manufacturing goals" (it's a football score not a car)

Anything involving Derbrain Russell.

Also, I was forced to listen to the first half of Freo v North on the radio, and the general ignorance of the Perth ABC callers about North astounded me. Do WA listeners find the Melbourne commentators similarly ignorant, or are they particularly parochial. Also, Ken Judge has a job as an expert commentator????

What I can't stand is commentators saying

"He's one of the best players in the league in (whatever skill it is)"

Apparently every player on the field is the best in the league at something

Harry O'brien leads the entire league in having his hair pulled this season.
The nearest player is everyone else on none.

He's also got to be leading in "high steps" while evading the tackle by a mile.

"Taking the game on" referring to Danny Frawley's way of saying teams should run the ball and play on more than not.

"That was very unJudd like"

He turns the ball over every 3rd freaking kick!!

Similar to this, every disposal that an Ablett/Judd gets is special, clever or brilliant - even though it may be no different to a stock standard disposal

''Kosi when will he finally standup'' every dam week I here this.. Get over it already commentators..

I love AFL and Soccer.
But soccer athletes are different to football, and so is the game, therefore commentators should not compare goals.
The Hannelbury goal on the weekend is a goal to get excited about, not a 1m toe poke.
Thats what im saying.
And to then go on and say that AFL player should be playing in the world cup is a joke.
Just like saying Schwaarzer playing in AFL taking a high mark is.

when anybody refers to footy as AFL!!!
when Bwuce Macavaney puts on that gravelly voice 2 show he is excited.
when Kelli Underwood calls someone tough but she would scare him in an alley (not saying she is scarey, but she refers to a powder puff as a hard nut)
when Malcolm Blight speaks.
when Glen Jakovich shows why he is no rocket surgeon.

Absolute pet hate of commentators is when they compare players and say, for example, "the best players in our game are your Judds and your Fevola's"

Firstly theres only one of them running around the paddock, and secondly, noone owns them so why are the refered to as 'yours' =/

"At the end of the day, you've got your Jarmans, your Ricciutos, your Goodwins, your McLeods..."

The two that annoy me are

- 'pays the ultimate price' when someone makes a mistake. I'm yet to see someone die on the football field after turning the ball over.
- 'kick it to grass'. I understand what they are trying to say here but what exactly does that mean?

Dwayne Russell has fast become the most annoying commentator in the AFL.

Every week he says "In your dreams" or "As good as it gets".

The one thing i hate more is everytime a player plays back in their home state he says that they know the ground very well having come from that state etc etc. Most of the time those players havent or barely played a game on the ground as they arent used for local comps.

Also everyone now says "That's extraordinary". FFS

"Pays the ultimate price"

Usually Danny Frawley, who I don't mind as a commentator, just this statement he slips into the call every week, the ultimate price in life is definately not having six points kicked against your team.

Stating the obvious. Robert Walls does it a lot.

Couldn't agree more. Robert if you read this forum or can take any advise from someone who hasn't commentated before but has to put up with your drivel every week.......Tell us something that we cannot already see on our "Panasonic Viera built in HD tuner plasma screens"!! If we can see what is going on as a viewer, we don't need you to give us your Captain Obvious analysis of it. If we cannot see what has happened away from the contest to create space, put a block on, interchage rotation, etc....then let us know. You can then utilise one of the numerous camera angles from other parts of the ground to ram home your point.

I'm sick of commentators talking about how unselfish Geelongs forwards are and how much they prefer to give a goal than kick one themselves... Hearing that Cam Mooney had a competition with Stevie J for most assists over and over and over again was just plain annoying

Not only that - it had no basis in fact. It started with Robert Walls (who else) saying "it appears that Mooney and Johnson are having some sort of competition..."

Next stage: "I think that Mooney and Johnson..."
Finished product: "It's a well-known fact that Mooney and Johnson..."

Not well-known Robert. And in keeping with most football commentary, certainly not a fact.

Yes, it was denied on a number of occasions.
