They've completely ****ed up the timing on this one.

It should have been after the men's game on Saturday night.

Terrible decision. Missed out on a huge opportunity to introduce AFLW to more people and have a larger crowd

They're determined to keep a handbrake on this thing

If 40 000 people stuck around Saturday night the girls might start asking for more money

Two possible explanations:
- would the cost to put on a 7.30 - 9.30 match would be more expensive than a 12.40 - 2.40 match?
- would the club have requested a standalone game for maximum Channel 7 exposure, as most of the nation will be watching the two AFL games that night?

I'd love to know the reason(s) why it couldn't be after the men's game on Saturday night. I'm going to have to guess that it's something to do with broadcasting. Saturday night it would be up against 2 games whereas on Sunday it's only 1. The other prelim is also up against only 1 game. Disappointing because you'd think that the team would have got to run out to over 30,000 people. Hopefully they still get a good crowd, but definitely seems an opportunity missed on the surface.

Can anyone think of any good reason they are not playing it Saturday night.

It must mean the GF will be on a Sunday too?

I'm guessing it is because there are already two Saturday night mens matches, which would put pressure on the broadcasters

What a stupid decision.

Not happy about this one, but fairly sure I'll be able to go on the Sunday anyway.

i agree a double header would have been amazing and the afl crapped the bed on this one but slight devils advocate would it have looked really bad if 3 thousand people turned up after the mens game and couldn't get in due to lack of seats ? I know thats like complaining about the taxes after winning the lottery.

I think the afl is so worried about making a bad decision that have chosen to do nothing, their indecision has cost them AFLW's largest crowd possibly their largest tv numbers and they have lost god knows how much goodwill.

It sucks because the girls deserve a huge crowd and now they get to play in an empty stadium.

My gut feel is they want to limit our home crowd advantage also. Cats being new in this season are likely going to be overawed if playing to such a potentially massive crowd (eg. 15,000 or more).

Possibly, Geelong being an AFL lovechild club and all.

I would have liked it to have been a double header but maybe they thought it was too hard. I dont know

The only reason to play it at Adelaide Oval was because the mens team and the fans were already going to be there.

Now that its on a completely separate day they are going to be playing to an empty stadium with a max of 12k complete waste of money.

100% TV decision.

Saturday night a more favored timeslot and with the two AFL games on this game is being buried on Sunday.

No way the SMA asked for this. Far easier for them to play after our game.
No way our club wanted this.
I bet the players would rather play at night in front of a decent crowd.

I was supposed to be volunteering at Science Alive Tonsley on the Sunday and this really stuffs up my day! After the game on Saturday would have been perfect, but I bet they didn't want it to out rate the men's games on that night ;)

Really weird timing from the AFL for both prelims. Carlton played on Sunday but get the Saturday Prelim and they are supposed to be the 'higher ranked' team in that final.

If it's going to be 12k, you'd think it better at Norwood or Unley. Would have been great after the men's game though, surely there'd still be 40k there when they ran out and 30k for the full game.

I'm not sure that "buried" is the right word. It's been scheduled to not be in competition with 2 other AFL games. I'm not sure that Fox has the channels to show 3 AFL games simultaneously. Not sure about channel 7. I think the AFL are protecting it to a fair extent. If all 3 games could be televised simultaneously I reckon it wouldn't have gone too bad up against the other games. The reigning premiers are playing, but other than that, there's not a lot to get excited about with the 2 men's games.

Completely agree. Much harder to get into the city. Especially on a Sunday where the buses run once an hour.

I have been to a couple of games this year and was pumped for the men/woman double. Don't think I'll head in Sunday. Can t be spending both days of the weekend getting to and from the city. Will stay home, watch on t.v. and get some work done......sad
