would you want to play a team full of players coming out of iso with no body to body contact for 2 weeks though?
Nah, but the AFL will move the game to make it appear to be a more even playing field.

If so then McKenna deserves an apology from the media.

The penalty should be giving Melbourne the 4 points. If Essendon want to punish the player they can, but why should Melbournes season be compromised?
As one of the other 16 clubs though, I'm not OK with Melbourne just being gifted 4 points without a game being played.

In this case, because it's Melbourne, as a North supporter we definitely don't want them getting free wins, as we need them to finish as low as possible for their first round draft pick.

Essendon were favourites to win this game.

Freo and Sydney don't want a game against Essendon, which all clubs only get one, to have been so heavily compromised for a couple of upcoming games.

McLachlan needs to go because of the way he has handled this season. Even though difficult he gets paid big bucks to make it right. The AFL are a law unto themselves. Sex scandals at Headquarters, aflx, afwl, silence over controversial issues and now abhorrent responses to this incident with Essendon. AFL spin is all you get from this untrustworthy person. The game needs to go back to the fans who are the real custodians of the game.Stop the corporate wank and McLachlan can fook right off.

They were favourites, but if we play the game without Essendon fielding their backline, there's a chance Melbourne will not only get the win, but a massive % boost as well. This could be the spark that reignites our incredible 2018 form and leads us to a premiership.

What is the best solution?

Obviously we will see what breaches are confirmed, but if he broke the rules and caught COVID doing it then Essendon will be absolutely ropable.

He’s probably a likeable bloke but he’s openly talked about returning to Ireland, has taken leave from the club and he seems to take a pretty relaxed attitude to his footy. He must be testing their patience.

All jokes aside, there will inevitably be some sort of a break this season and they might be able to play it later.

If that’s a problem and it emerges it was a rule breach, then points to Melbourne. Don’t like it and it’s not fair on Essendon or frankly anyone but Melbourne, but it’s probably best.

How much % do we get for beating Essendon?

And do we get a head start against Geelong? They are match fit, ready to go, coming off a huge upset loss. Melbourne on the other hand had to mentally prepare for a game that didn't happen and gets an unwanted two week lay off. That's not right.

No need to add or subtract anything for percentage. Would be arbitrary. Can’t see how anyone can complain - might have lost or won and you can’t know.

You apparently played a scratch match so that will have to do. It’s happened now.

Go take it up with your pissant club, that continually flouts rules and seems to think any repercussions for flouting the rules are "unfair".

The AFL reckons it’s OK as long as he didn’t spend 15 mins in “close proximity” or two hour in an indoor space together. No. Close proximity it sitting opposite someone in a cafe or something. If you’re tackling someone in full contact training you’re potentially breathing right into their face.

Plus the footage I’ve seen of McKenna at training shows him spitting. Spitting! So if anyone rolled on the grass they’ve potentially rolled right through that. Hundreds of thousands of people dying around the world for this disease and footy players going around spitting. Talk about complete contempt for the lives of others. Talk about complete contempt for health care workers putting their lives on the line to take care of affected people for a fraction of the pay of an AFL footy player.

And yes, it is not only McKenna spitting ... I watched a bit of the GCS game this arvo and I saw one of their players spitting as well. Hundreds of thousands of Australians’ lives riding on us being able to keep control of the virus, and they’re casually going around spitting like “oh that couldn’t possibly transfer the virus, could it?” Bunch of arrogant, entitled ar**holes.

Not sure, Essendon will become the first VFL/AFL team to ever forfeit a game. I think 60-0 is what records would show.

It's not arbitrary though. 13 out of 18 teams finished on the same amount of points as another last year, and I don't want to give North Melbourne a better draft pick because we didn't get the % boost Essendon would have been for us.

Ok penalise us 4 points but if Dees make the finals and one of your players tests positive you’d be happy with forfeiting a final as you would inconvenience your finals opponent?
