Re: Walker Now!!!

I know i'm going a bit off topic,
but does anyone think that hentschel will get a game this year? He is getting quite a few injuries and knowing NC is conservative.....

Re: Walker Now!!!

cbf reading anything but the first 5 posts.

In summary,

Jericho was terrible - but why debut a tall 18 year old in the dodgy conditions they had today? All it would do is dent his confidence and people would question his playing ability when in this type of weather its the smalls that dominate. Thats why ebert and Motlop kicked so many today. Tippet and jericho played poorly but it was the conditions that really didnt do them any favours. Thats why losing Porps last week hurt so much.

In short, I think Bryce held his own, Symes was a star at times and Massie probably broke even. Jericho had a shocker but playing against experienced defenders in the wet there really isnt much you can do.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Please tell us you were being a tad factious with that comment? 6 months is a blink of an eye stuff – if he’s not ready now, he will not be ready then.

His confidence would be sky high right now, if he is not selected this season I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go backwards next year and he may lose a lot of this confidence he has accumulated now.

Waiting 6 months is bull shit and will not automatically make him ready.

Even if they play him in the 3 or 4 Mickey Mouse games in February, surly he would get far more benefit our of playing 3 or 4 proper games now.
I am just so frustrated that we keep recycling the tried and tested method that has failed us. It’s time for something new.

Actually it's about 8 months to next season kick-off ....but for an 18 year old another 6 months in the AFL system is significant

Look at the developmental difference in Tippett, Mackay ect with another PS and motre physical development work.

There's obviously a good reason he's being held back .....give the club and match committee some credit ;)

Re: Walker Now!!!

And tahts why you want changes ....any changes just to see a different mix and fix YOUR BOREDOM.

Now thats not a particualrly good reason .....and I'll say again the decision to give Walker a full SANFL season is if in the opinion of the Crows warranted then I'll support that.

Over reacting in a development year to fans should not and will not affect Craigs long term development plans ....... from what I've seen all our youngsters are developing nicely and probably better than at any other time in the clubs history ...... find something else to cure your boredom ;)
yeah thats the only reason, has nothing to do with the fact we have now lost 5 in a row.

Clearly the set up at the moment is not working, why not be daring, try something, help the crowd inspire the team.

.

And do you really think adding Walker is the difference ATM between winning and losing

Let me tell you there ain't many first year 18 year olds tearing the AFL up and winning games off their own boot.

IMO we need a CHF to support Tippett ......Gill, McGregor and Sellar are the obvious choice but that's not going to happen for a variety of reasons.

Bock to CHF and Moran to CHB is one option.

But the biggest problem IMO is that our midfield unlike teams of yester-year are not runnng through the lines and hitting leading targets.

Our midfield footskills are about the worse I can remember and we're just plain slow and not dangerous.

We used to have the top 2-3 damaging midfield in the AFL ......and that compensated an average forwrd group.

We need to fix the midfield .....Mackay is a sensational kick ....get him back in.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Look - after listening to people - i think i've posted it somewhere

Craigy is spot on- he isn't ready - he plays a qtr or so of good football and then goes missing for large parts of the game

We look at goals in SANFL as if he would kick the same about in AFL, but he wouldn't why do we think Walker will some guru AFL player when we all know that playing as a KPF is probably the toughest position to play.
Would be interested to see the ages of some of the current players playing in KPF and doing it well.

Franklin at 21 seems to be the only real "young" player at 21 doing it on a regular basis.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Why Symes? I think he's been good today and at least he is hard at the ball.

Yeah he is hard at the ball and he seems to find the ball a lot, but the one thing he has to work on is the "Symes Special" which is the long looping kick to nothing when he is under pressure. This is why I think Symes often handballs when he should kick because he knows that his foot is suspect under pressure.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Looking at our team today we have a total of one natural forward, that being Tippett.

Time for Walker and Hentschel (if fit)!!!!!

I agree with your comment but we still need to give these kids time to adjust to AFL footy, look how long it took Hawthorn to become a power house even with top draft picks........ but are we crow supporters willing to take some pain.

All excellent points

He is being "groomed" in the SANFL for a reason ......but as you say he's had some very quiet games and quiet halves of footy.

It's also been reported that defensively he needs to tighten up .......so unless he's a gamebreaker at 18 let him work on those things in the SANFL.

There are some players who benefit from AFL exposure ......somehow IMO Walker appears that he'll make the transition without that exposure but once he's ironed out some things he's been asked to work on.

Re: Walker Now!!!

****ing pathetic. Season over

Campbell, Jericho, Massie, Symes gone

Kite, Walker, Otten, Mackay in

Even ****ing Sellar to get some game time

And a big ****ing cull at the end of the year

Agree on the others, but if you want to drop Symes after the inspired game he played today, you sir are a fool.

it's not just about winning, it's about having a look at this kid at the top level and giving him that taste and experience at top level

think of the benefits playing Walker now, he is in form, confident and 6 games now leading into his pre-season will set a fantastic platform for 2009

Re: Walker Now!!!

Bring in Walker and Gill next week and give us a couple of blokes down there to kick the ball to. And give Tippett some time back in the 2s. What was it today? 2 kicks, a couple of handballs and less than a half dozen hit outs? He has been a passenger for many weeks now. I'm not sure he'd make 1sts in the SANFL the way he's going at present.
Hound was BOG for mine. Held us together big time in the 1st half.

WW, I wasn’t convinced he should be playing however after seeing today’s game quite frankly I’ve had enough and it’s time for change.

He’s 18, inexperienced and goes missing in games. Give him an AFL game and he might kick no goals and have 1 or 2 possessions, but so what? We’ve lost 5 in a row, have the least damaging forward line in the league and probably won’t make the finals. We’re playing Luke Jericho who had kicked 1 goal in 2 SANFL games before getting a recall. Expecting Walker to come in and dominate won’t happen, and no one is expecting him to. All we want is a glimpse of the future. Of course he will struggle but it’s all part of the learning process. Is Craig AFRAID to play him and for him to fail? He is a tough lad and I’m sure he would be better served getting a game that continuing to get frustrated not playing in a team that has no forwards.

I think everyone understands that it’s going to take time but let’s start the next process now.

1995 and 1996 may have appeared as if they were a waste of time under Robert Shaw but looking back now, which was a very invaluable learning curve for the younger player in the squad. Ben Hart, Mark Ricciuto, Andrew McLeod, Peter Vardy, Simon Goodwin and Tyson Edwards got good game time to learn how to play AFL football and even Sean Wellman who developed to the point where Kevin Sheedy could see he would worth the punt and became a valuable part of the Jarman trade.

The next 2 or 3 year may be a rocky period but that period has to start sometime. Losing 5 in a row and not beating any top 8 sides, there is no time like the present.

Yeah and we expect Walker to come in and kick 5 goals a week do we?

What is wrong with people, why does everyone have this thought that we expect him to dominate? We don’t, he won’t. We just have no one else and getting games and experience into him is better than playing that gutless Jericho. Walker’s had goalless games with Norwood, he’d have goalless game with Adelaide, but for crying out loud we have a disastrous forward line that is in urgent need of a shake-up.

And for all these people going on about how he goes missing, and he does, but have you ever stopped and considered WHY he goes missing? Yesterday in the last quarter Norwood absolutely shut up shot and went defensive, we barely had a forward entry in the last term and half the quarter Walker was up around the centre of the ground because we were flooding. So there is a reason for why he can go missing.

Re: Walker Now!!!

If Walker plays a quarter or a quarter and a half and goes missing for the rest, but kicks 4 when he's tuned in, we might win a game of footy.

I will take a line from NC script book

is it Walker going missing for a qtr or is it ball movement, could anyone blame walker for not kicking a goal in the final qtr yesterday when Norwood was over run

I find it amusing, at AFL level when our forwards are not kicking goals it is ball movement not the personnel or structure

however when Walker does not kick a goal for a qtr or a half, it is the kids fault

double standards

Re: Walker Now!!!

If we bring Walker in now and even if he plays poorly, we can't be any worse than we are now: McGregor, Stevens, Jericho, Tippett, Sellar and Gill have all had their fair share of goalless <5 disposal games.

Does anyone else think that the Hall of Fame game earlier this year was the turning point in our season? Mcleod, Goodwin and Johncock have struggled ever since.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Things have calmed down a bit in here. :)

When we are winning (seems a while ago now) nobody talks about our forwards. When we are losing our forward line is rubbish and the call goes out to debut an 18 yr old at FF.

Bunji had a shocker but was his first game back and he was wearing the human glove most of the time.

Kudos to Moran and Symes.
