Where is our war chest? Sick of watching trade possibilities and our clubs name not mentioned in any of it. Good mindfielders available everywhere and WCE not linked to virtually any of them.
If we have to over pay then over pay. They won't come to us to play finals yet so they need to come to us to earn more than they could dream of.
Merrit, Simpkin, Steele, Windhager, etc etc.
There is no way we are good enough to hide it from the media which means we are simply not talking to them or have been told that under no circumstances does the player want to move interstate which is also likely.

Money talks however.
Merrett, Simpkin and Steele all play for teams that have been down for a number of years, probably frustrated by the lack of progress, does moving to WC improve that probably not at the moment.
To my knowledge they are all Vics so do they want to move across country with wives, kids?
Can we offer near term finals, probably not.
Are we competing against 9 other Victorian teams for their service, not to mention other non Vic clubs.
Can we offer more money than some other Vic clubs with a war chest?
So looking at this it becomes incredibly difficult to sell your story even if you are splashing the cash!

I have no problem with getting Dev on the list, he does improve us and as someone else said list improvement is incremental.
Simply put Dev on and Rawlinson off, makes us a stronger list.

What my worry is what Clarke Kent, gives up to get him.
I can’t help but feel very nervous with us having a very good draft hand and us botching it up.

We drafted well last year but our work at the trading table was appalling.

A very inauspicious start to his tenure at West Coast has left me apprehensive and concerned that Clarke Kent might just spud this trade week up.

We are precariously poised at the bottom of the ladder and if we botch this trade and draft period up, then we are in for “Northesq”, sustained period of incompetence.

Massey I have faith in but I worry that Clarke wont ensure that Massey has the best picks at his disposal.

I hope like hell that my worries are missed placed as the T&D period is a real opportunity for us to improve.

Surely he can't be that much of an idiot.

Surely he knows that Dev at this point is bound to be delisted and therefore shouldn't be flagging any interest in him before that happens or engaging Brisbane in any way. Private word to Dev that we'll look at him as a DFA or a SSP is all that's required.

This type of thing happens all the time. In fact Carlton were doing it with Petrucelle 5 minutes ago and nobody cared.

Hoping to avoid Nesbitt going onto trade radio and openly bagging out our OOC player Jarrod Brander just to absolutely squash any potential trade levels of stupid here.

The AFL has a problem and they know.

This year has highlighted that in sharp focus.

Contracted stars leaving struggling clubs for top four teams.

West coast with a war chest of money even though we have a cap(Victorian media...theyre the richest club in the country so use it), but still we can't lure them over.

Now there is talk of sing on bonuses is free agent go to bottom four sides.

Soft cap hampering A grade medical/health care for players resulting in injury crisis, poor management and thus poor outcomes, specifically, loss of game quality and a skewed ladder.

Soft cap hampering interstate clubs to lure quality staff away from Victoria, BC they know they have 9 other teams to jump from one job to the other.

The inequities have never been greater.

I imagine he will cost us nothing, he'll be delisted or given away for free (late late pick). My issue is that i don't want him on a long term contract. Give him one year to demonstrate that he deserves to be on the list moving forward, and not just going to list clog moving forward.

Did yooz know that Dev is Darren Glass’ nephew?

I would expect Dev to be traded in for a late pick that we wouldn’t otherwise use. That way he’s at the club as early as possible.

Would be pretty interesting to know exactly what pick/s we would have given up for him 2 years ago and who we ended up drafting with it.

Dev has been a part of a very successful and elite team and even though he hasn't been getting a lot of AFL games he is still training with them and a part of their team. He has been very good in the VFL constantly pushing to crack into the top team but with the likes of Neale, McCluggage, Ashcroft's, Dunkley, Lohman, Raynor, Bailey etc etc it is a pretty hard team to crack into.
He will easily come in and be best 22 for us, all this WAFL talk is just that WAFFLE talk.

If we can just get past the fact he turned us down to remain at a powerhouse in the hopes of breaking into the AFL team, and a few other reasons, we would see getting him over would just be a positive move and now he will cost bugger all.
We don't know how close he came to joining us a few years back, maybe very close, so let's not judge him too harshly on it. A west Aussie who group supporting the Eagles, if I'm not mistaken, will probably be even better when he is wearing the mighty Blue and Gold.

Yeah it's one thing to be a St Kilda and be based in the State that generates a lot of the footy talent. Pay overs for uncontracted players and get them through the door, and they were reasonably competitive last year (9-14) while missing their best key forward for the entire year with a knee injury. It's pretty easy for them to sell the combination of location, money and being competitive going forward. What do we have? We're in the most geographically-isolated city in the comp and won one match last year. All we can do is offer big bags of cash, but unfortunately we're also competing with a lot of other clubs who have plenty of cash to splash around.

Also doesn't particularly help that WA seems to be in a bit of a down period when it comes to producing good young players. Only two WAFL players in the first round last year and they went at 16 and 24; year before that Curtin was the only real A-grader. And this year you have to get well down into the teens before you find the best WA prospect. It means you have to roll the dice on out-of-state talent sticking around and reduces the likelihood of bringing home some homesick A-graders in a few years (and also there's every chance those guys will just stay with the club that drafted them rather than coming back to WA to get belted every week).

I'm sure the club doesn't care whatsoever that he's turned us down previously. His team had just lost a GF and it was understandeable a player could have a change of heart. Nephew of a club great not withstanding.

It's only closed minded idiots on here that don't understand how list management works, who have an issue with acquiring him.

Pretty sad ATM that at this stage trade wise the best option for our midfield woes depth wise is the Dev
Well I'm not sure who in the league can push Dunkley out of his position... That's who he's competing against.

Like McCarthy... Dev has shown with VFL form that he's probably better than anything we've currently got

Owies wasn't going to be offered a contract didn't stop us trading for him

The problem with the trading is that players command the destination and can veto trades so to speak and nominate.

This is where the league, in my opinion, needs to get back to clubs command the floor with minimal say if any from the player. Hey you want to play football, be prepared to move to where ever.

AFL executives can **** off and get this league back under control rather than manipulate to suit the big vic clubs.

That way we can shift conversation to landing Dev Robinson ****en crusoe to landing more reputable midfielders

Why not bobby hill from the pies ??

We have the cash he is a wa lad no way the pies can match our cash offer with there list

We are losing Ryan replacement bobby

Why not ?

Impossible to have any faith in Clarke after his botch job in bother pick 3, baker and barass negotiations. We lost all three of them comfortably.
He did pretty well in the Barrass negotiations? We got a pretty decent haul all things considered.
Whether we chose the right pick to keep is obviously a downer but purely a hindsight call. However forcing Hawthorn to give a 1st, 2nd and 3rd after they tried to **** us over wasn't bad work at all.

I am very much team Pepsi max these days.
The vanilla variant also good.

For the caffeinated types, I love v black but I don’t love the fact it still doesn’t come sugar free so a pinelime Flying Power from Aldi is probably the next best. Completely opposite flavour profiles, sure, but still very good.

Just like Lachie Neale and Dev Rob are different profiles. One is red bull, one is flying power.
Coke Zero & Diet Coke just tastes like watered down Coke. PepsiCo has nailed sugar free drinks a lot better than Coca-Cola.

Agree mate, this is what i am talking about. Davies at Gold Coast supposedly not that happy there. Unfortunately it seems when you hit the bottom in the AFL then its doubly hard to come back as no one wants to play for you.
